Yep, it's important to keep our eye on the ball with regard to the league when we pick up on our league fixtures again at the weekend. Matches like tonight, and we only have a cup interest now in the FA Trophy, are a welcome diversion when you are playing well.
The Dover result was a just reward for Tony's efforts and style of management so far this season. I always said back when the manager's job was up for grabs, that I hoped Tony would take the job on providing he could continue to manage his business interests and be the one to bring the Darts back to the Borough. If that comes with the bonus of promotion as well, so much the better!!!!! He knows this club inside out!
And I would take it if promotion came along because we would have proved to ourselves that we deserved it and would therefore deserve the opportunity to try at the next level up. The worst that could happen would be relegation back to where we are now, the best would be that we are playing at a higher level, the young players continuing to up their own performances and making progress. Plus bigger crowds and better usage of our new stadium.
Hold back a year and everything could be lost! A year is a very long time in football. Last year, Tranmere made it to the semi finals of the playoff, missing out on the final as a result of a penalty shootout. This season, we have just gone 7 league games without a win and tumbled to second to bottom of Division One.
So I will always say take the opportunity if it comes along and build on that success.
Looking forward to hearing the Rothwell result. Hope there are not too many tired legs after tonight's performance
