Yes as most will say another away point ground out to keep us on track, but I'm sure Tony and the fans will really believe his was 2 points lost.
A terrible ground as we know with it's ramshackled stand and pigeons s**t raining down upon us, but to pay to get into the ground and then be refused entrance to the bar because I hadn't retained The Dukes and my entrance tickets (and the turnstile lady did't tell us because she was yapping to another member of staff) saw me tip up a wheelie bin luckily almost empty to reclaim the tickets to get a drink.
The woman sat at the entrance to the bar was most ignorant and rude when we tried to enter claiming that everyboy was told to keep their tickets (not true) and to get out as no ticket no admittance, hence the search for the tickets.
More excitement there then, than the first half of the game, at least she showed commitment to her job, whilst we didn't break into a sweat and casually strolled about the pitch.
Back to the G.W. and Withenhoe attitude with us showing a very poor performance against a lack lustre opposition with little to show, who sneaked a well taken goal in the first 20 minutes whilst our defence was asleep.
The goal was one any of us could have defended against as they practised it on the pitch 30 seconds before scoring, a corner taken along the ground to a player standing unmarked on the edge of the box, a shot on goal blocked and deflected for another corner, RETAKE, ACTION and a repeat performance but this time a goal.
The midfield was poor and struggled to control the ball on an uneven pitch, the defence wasn't really troubled again this half, more due to Harlow's attack than anything else, save for a terrible back pass from Tommy Osbourne which let their froward in and Kevin to rescue us, in attack James was alone and giving his best as usual.
Second half showed an improvement with attacks down both wings from Davy Martin and Ryan Hayes but few strikes on goal or chances created until we had a piece of luck (from memory yes my aged memory if I'm wrong I apologise) Anthony Henry hit a long ball out of defence, skied and mishit but it flew from the left out to the right wing and found Stevie Hafner who attacked the defence and got in a cross, not converted but it was only cleared to James Carter standing close to the penalty spot who fired a shot high into the roof of the net. (And was he pleased and so were we, for him and his lone efforts up front)
We were much better after the equaliser and should have sneaked it when James was played clean through to the edge of the box where he hesitated gained his balance and hit what looked to be a perfect shot across the face of the goal along the ground heading for the far corner, only to see the keeper get down at the last minute and palm the ball away for a corner.
Too little too late though and a chance of 3 points lost, although Tony's half time team talk did at least get us moving and a point was claimed to maintain the minimum points expected from an away game.
These are the games when we should be picking up 3 points and closing the gap on the leaders and redeeming the points lost at home when we have drawn games, still we along with Stafford remain the only two teams unbeaten at home, but we know we have only played 7 at home so must ensure maximum points next week when we play Enfield, alhough even a win will still only keep us in 7th place after today's result.
