Rothwell home thread 11th Feb 2006
« on: February 10, 2006, 10:01:12 AM »

Like we've already said, Tuesday was a bad day at the office, let's get back on track tomorrow.

Looks like we are going to be without both Brendan and Haffy, so another reshuffle is needed, probably Ryan and Craig Maguire back in the side, with Pully the lone striker?

Unfortunately I can't make this one, mother in law duties in Shropshire this weekend .....so you can swear and abuse the oppo as much as you like  :)

If it's any consolation Dave T the only time The Duke or I got involved with offering people out is when we purchased the 1960's Mike Sarne & Wendy Richard (yes Pauline Fowler) record Come Outside and that was aimed at the females.

Seriously though we will have another hard game tomorrow with some more aggression, so lets hope that the players have lost their Prima Donna attitude and will be up for it and will get stuck in.

We need goals from anywhere so lets hope that Ryan, Davie, Eddie or Pullie can conjure some up.

The squad is now stretched to its limit, we will see how much Haffy and Cass will be missed and its now up to the players that are left to show us their battling attitude. We need to bounce back big time, as usual the vocal support will be there to be the 12th man.

Maintaining our play off position is vital.

WE need to get 100% behind OUR team tomorrow and other than a bit of good natured banter IGNORE rothwell

its time to get the message to ALL of the choir - offend or please !!!!!

we do really need the flair players rhino, davie, eddie and pully  to do it and if necessary for the whole team to expand that much energyu that they are just about able to crawl off the pitch

nothing less is acceptable  !!!!!

Having returned home after a week away from the internet, and unable to obtain the non league weekend and midweek results i the national press, I had to wait untikl this morning to catch up on events.

Obviously disappointed to see that we dropped 3 points against Uxbridge and the injury suffered to Haffie. With our injury list increasing, non of the forthcoming matches are going to be easy for us and I'm sure Rothwell is going to be another difficult game with so many of the boys out on long teerm injury. As I said in a previous posting, we were never going to complete the season undefeated, so now that first defeat has happened, now is the time to bounce back.

Catching up on some of the postings, sadly, it seems that Banksy87 has been on the cider again, because he has obviously not read earlier postings on the Ramsgate game, or TBs comments on arrogance from some of the fans creeping in, by his comments referring to Uxbridge and Rothwell as crap teams. Result, Uxbridge beat us. 'Nuff said. When will some of the fans start to realise there are no easy games, and we must work hard in every game to get the results we want. Teams in the lower reaches of the league are every bit capable of turning over a team at the top end of the table.

Hope the boys can get back to winning ways. Let's go for it !!

For myself tomorrow, I'm thinking of popping to see Cammell Laird v VCD in the FA Vase. A hard match for VCD, but it will give me a chance to compare the standard of the  Kent League against local leagues up in this neck of the woods.

Yes,another home defeat. amazing, you can go all season unbeaten, then crash twice to lower midtable teams in the space of 4 days!!!. sorry to say, that today was as bad as Tuesday. Very little penetration, in fact you can prob count our goal attempts from both games, on one hand. No Cass today, not that he has actually set the world on fire just yet anyway. Still no Jimbo,so Ian struggled again. So another bad day at the office, and what with Chelsea going awol today, think i need a drink.

You cant win games if you don't have any clear-cut chances on goal. Ryan's swinging shot/cross which the keeper saved well, and Pully's chance towards the end were the only two half-chances we had and we were lacking. Not convinced in playing Avery in midfield, with Craig sitting at left-back - we looked too brittle to play that way :(

Yet another game where we were very very poor indeed in fact you could say we was damn right bloody awful.

!st half we created a little bit and tried to play a bit of football with both Davie & Ryan taking on both fullbacks and generally getting passed them no problem but neither were really getting in many good crosses at all and when they did we had absolutely nobody in the box to recieve them.

Eddie worked hard in the midfield with no real support or help at all, Richard Avery tried his best in the holding roll of midfield but as we all know it's not his natural position but due to a lack of players at the moment he's not having much of a choice where as Ryan Briggs on the other hand did absolutely nothing all game as he did on Tuesday night. I hate to say it but he really is starting to look like another Alan Tutton where he's got all the talk attempts to lift players and has a moan if they mess up or don't pass but can't actually do anything himself.

Gary Carter is for me another player that shouldn't really be in the team at the moment or certainly the 1st 11 anyway as he's very weak on the ball, he's very very hesitant going in for both aerial challanges and on the deck and his passing is absolutely atroshous as well as being very slow in chasing back, surely it's got to be time to give Tommy Olson his chance at fullback as he certainly looked good at the start of the season and unfortunately only lost his place due to going on holiday.

People were having a go at Pully today and at times i agree he was being a bit greedy but when we constantly keep hitting balls up in the air to the shortest player on the pitch then there is absolutely nothing he is going to be able to do, when the ball is played to his feet he can generally hold it up and either lays the ball off or turns the defender.

Tony Henry is certainly off of his game at the moment and isn't his normal self at all and to be honest Rothwells goal came from his mistake. If he'd just put the ball out of play he would've been ok but he tried to knock a long ball up field and only actually made the player directly in front of him.

I honestly don't know whats causing the players to put in these types of terrible performances at the moment and if they're not careful they are going to throw away 1 of the play off places. Whether it's all this talk of play off's and possible promotion thats causing it and the players all feel under pressure i don't know but what ever it is i really do hope that they can turn things around and quickly.

I know we was possibly due a defeat after the way we had been going but 2 home defeats in a row with these types of performances is not really on, if we had been playing well but still lost then ok fair enough i can accept that but not with these last 2 performances.

Fingers crossed things will improve and by quite a bit for next weeks game away to Berkhamsted.

Hopefully Tony's search for a new player which is preferably going to be a midfielder will end soon.

Looking at todays results we now have to be careful of both Wivenhoe and Barking & East Ham who are rapidly closing us down by winning today.

Wivenhoe are now only 4pts beind us with 1 game in hand and Barking are 5pts behind with 2 games in hand where as Stamford are pulling away from us by winning again today 4-0 against Waltham Forest.

If we really do want to stand a chance of possibly going up or at least staying in the play off's then it's time to knuckle down boys really get stuck in and start creating and converting these chances.

We are now in danger of falling away from the play off places unless we can pull a performance out of the bag quick, the injuries etc are hurting us now, its time to roll those sleeves up!

I try not to single out any individuals when we lose but at times as a unit we simply do not do the basics and revert to hopeless lofted punts that is simply not good enough! Where may i ask is the height up front to accommadate this type of pass? There you go, SO WHY BOTHER?

Yes with a bit more luck we could have scored but we were not producing enough flowing passing football. In fact our opponents hit the woodwork twice and had a one on one that went wide.

We are a big fish in this league, you only have to witness the celebrations at the end from first Uxbridge then Rothwell! Our team needs to be more ruthless and punishing when in control of the ball.

Good size crowd today and if we are to increase the fan base then something has to be done because on the evidence of the last 2 games we are falling away and that upsets me!

i think we al lagree that with our best 11 on the pitch we are almost a match for anybody but the problem is that we are short of 3 quality players and we just dont have the depth to cover injuries/suspensions etc

the  " football " we " played " today was very poor and i have seen better stuff on the local park

surely 11  footballers playing at southern league level can do better than just hoofing it up to a 5' 8" [at best]  centre forward and also manage more than 2 shots a game on goal

we were lucky today to lose by 1 goal , rothwell should have been 3 goals clear ,  they played some nice stuff and there no 6 in midfield although slight in build was commanding and the no10 up front  held the ball up as well as i have seen all season

i dont like losing but if we do and play some decent footbal lthen i can live with it cause long term i believe that it will come right  but the " crap " that we played today will get us nowhere

i [ along with the other loyalists ] will be at berkhamstead next week and no doubt the rest of the games this season but surely we deserve better ????

What do you mean, I didn't hear anybody swear?  People will come flooding through the gates now!

Better get the wilderbeast away from the plains, before the white rabbits come flooding through!!

As for the game, we've blown it big time today.  Not the play off hopes, they're still there and we have to be confident that even with injuries we're more than capable.  What we've blown is our "home field advantage"  6 games in 7 at home and we haven't taken advantage like we should have.  They were our chance to show the rest of the teams in our league what we're made of, show then that we're championship contenders, not just play off hopefuls and scared the other challengers into giving us a 1-0 lead when they come to our place.  We've lost that advantage now, teams are going to come to our place confident and looking for results, that's going to make every home game that little bit more difficult.

We've missed a trick and that's disappointed me more than losing the 2 games.  The boys need to start listening to Tony again and we'll be fine, if they don't, then who knows.  We had a poor spell in our first 15 games and we have to win next week to stop us having a bad spell in the last 15.

Either way we're going home next season in good shape so I guess we can't be too disappointed, but I know what I'd like to see for the rest of this season, starting on Saturday!!
