spike - i agree totally with your latest post but you started the questioning of brendan in your post of 14/2/06 timed at 9.18am and i sorta gott he idea that you had not seen enough of brendan to confirm he is a top goalscorer and until you had,  then the jury was out

if i have missread this then sorry !!!!!!

i quite like the idea of 3-5-2 but dont think that you can fit  both ryan hayes and davie martin into it ???

i feel sure that TB will not be looking to demotivate brendan so we may yet see a new face soon

UP THE DARTS

Duke, there is nothing in my post that says Brendan can't score goals. My point, was that whilst I am not questioning that he is a proven goalscorer for his previous clubs, that doesn't mean he will be for us. I was very optimistic that someone of his apparent calibre was signed, but I reserve my judgement as to whether he was a good signing until he's proved himself in a Dartford shirt. So far, I would be astonished if anyone judged his first 3 and a bit games as anything more than immensely disappointing and I dare to suggest that if you didn't know about his record at Chatham you would be far more critical yourself!

Anyway, I am not saying that he can't score goals or that he is a bad player, or even a bad signing. I just think we should wait and see how things pan out before enthusing about him. In my view, he has had a very poor start and for the second time in a row, was completely out of the game on Saturday. Admittedly the service he received was poor, but I was disappointed that he never went looking for the ball or tried to make anything happen. I dont enjoy being critical, but the truth is that so far, I am very, very disappointed with his contribution.

I am not slagging the guy off and I still hope that things will turn around. I presume that his poor showing is due to the difference in the role he is playing which is why I wondered about 3-5-2. Obviously this would mean dropping Gary Carter and asking the wing backs to do a bit more up and down defensive work. For Dave Martin this would be no problem (he does this already) but I totally agree that playing Ryan in this role would leave us hopelessly exposed. If it was me, I would put Steve Haffner (when fit) back on the right and maybe Ryan and Pully in the centre, one in midfield and one up front with Brendan. I'm not sure it would work though, its just an idea to try and bring something out of Brendan for whom I had such high hopes. Shoot me down if you like, but based on what I have seen so far, I genuinely can't see Brendan being any use to us whatsoever unless we change something or somebody.

well matt - you wont need to buy a new cap as the one youve got obviously fits  !!!

no problem in accepting that your entitled to your opinion but so is everyone else !!!!

So what you're saying is, I'm entitled to my own opinion as long as I don't express it because it might differ from others?

I was quite happy with letting you have your own opinions and was never going to even bring up the moaning, you can moan as much as you like as far as I'm concerned.  It was only overhearing a joke I was having with somebody else that upset you and I stand by what I was saying, there's no need to slit your wrists yet!

Looking at Tony's match report I suppose I can at least be satisfied that he watched the same game as me.  Or maybe like me he likes to take both positives and negatives from a game, not just the negatives!  In my humble opinion life gets very boring and tedious very quickly if you only concentrate on the negatives!!

Have fun go mad!!

See you Saturday, good luck again with the op. hopefully you'll be able to see me too!!

Unless Brendon gets the service required then he's not likely to do anything in the games.

He hasn't done that well so far but then again his 1st game he got about 10 minutes, his 2nd game he scored and his 3rd & 4th games he's had absolutely no service whatsoever and we might as well have played without him.

1 goal in 4 games isn't to bad so far BUT we've got to start giving him the service from either both wings or from the middle. On Saturday he was completely unmarked and was screaming at Ryno to pass the ball but instead Ryan beat another defender took the ball right to the byline and then hit the cross to far past Brendon.

Fingers crossed he will start to score more for us very soon BUT ONLY if Ryan, Davie & the midfield start giving him the ball and the service.

I think the thing that worries me the most at the moment is a lack of a Plan B. As each game passes we seem to miss Jimmy Carters aerial and combative streak more and more. We attempted on Saturday to pass the ball wide for much of the first half and were increasingly frustrated by the very poor playing surface and indeed the small width of the pitch. The latter I think made it easy for Berkhamsted to crowd Ryan and Dave out of the game without leaving gaping holes elsewhere. When the passing game failed we certainly looked to bang the ball up in the air toward Brendan and latterly Pully with predictable results.
As far as Brendan goes I was delighted he signed for the Darts as it felt to me we actually had tempted a player to join us who many other clubs would have coveted. That he chose to come mid seson to us is a complement to the progress made both on and off the field. We don't however seem to have found a way of incorporating him into our style of play as he seems lost at the moment- unsure of what runs to make and how to get into the game. What dissapointed me more though was on a couple of occasions at 0-0 in the first half we had rebounds off the keeper in and around the six yard box and he was nowhere to be seen. I would really expect a 15 goal striker to be helping himself to numbers 16 and 17.
I really hope it works out for him and maybe he like Pully will look a much better player running onto Jimmy's flicks. Please stop taunting us from the sidelines Jim !. Hurry up and get fit.

hi matt , hope youre well
, my last post on this subject

#  iam and never will get upset over an alternative view to mine as i enjoy it too much !!!!

#  i was not moaning and have never ever booed or taken from frustrations out on the players including slagging on the message board

# i am usually one of the loudest of the choir [ including some outragous comments that you usually pick me up on] but after loud first half chanting i just could not summon up the same enthusiasm in the 2nd half , maybe not as it should be but i am only human !!!

#  except for the first 20 minutes ,i really didnt anything  of a positive nature and i cannot see any point in kidding myself , thats not being negative thats being honest

# i confirm [ once again]  that i am 100% behind TB and the boys and i feel sure that their disappointments , mirror image mine but whatever happens,  we will at least remain in this league and can build on this with PP looming

now thats realistically positive   !!!!!

had the eye op yesterday , first impressions [ even if somewhat bluured ] are 0f 90% chance of success - hoping to make barking on saturday - thanks for your thoughts

Obviously suffering from double vision then Duke, hitting the enter key twice!! Or are you just trying to boost the number of postings you're making?

A speedy recovery is on the cards, being back in action so soon after the op. Good health.
