The bottom line for me on the argument on the merits of Brendon Cass is this.He has come to the club with an excellent goal scoring record but having seen the Uxbridge and Enfield games (overseas for the two away games) he has not had a shot on target in the 180 minutes. The old argument about" its the lack of service" just does not hold up.Particularly in the first half yesterday Ryan Hayes was continually getting crosses into the box with no end product.
Having seen Brendon's gloomy face when leaving the dressing room last night i am sure he is as dissapointed as every one else (Duke excepted),but at the the end of the day we have brought him in to score goals at a crucial stage of the season and it is just not happening.End of argument!

i thought it was a great game, very hard fought.we played very well and should have put one of our chances away.i am sure our fortunes will change for the better immediately.
enfield town are a horrible team but get results and if you are supporter of a club that plays that way you will be pleased with their results.once they scored they killed the game with constant rabbitting to the ref, getting booked on purpose and making subs.at 1-0 we may as well have gone home.
their two centre backs were a couple of cart horses and i could not understand why ryan and dave were not told to cut inside sometimes and try to expose them.
i hear kebabus's comment about not apportioning blame but i cant help saying that gary carter is hapless at the moment.for me he is lacking in confidence and he was the only weak link in a good team yesterday.i think he also gave away a needless free kick in a dangerous position for the goal.he is a big bloke and should learn to impose himself more.he is a better player than the freak that played right back for enfield but the confidence the enfield man had saw him through the game.where is olsen surley he can have a couple of games and allow gary to re-evaluate his performances.
my final comment is that we play a type of game that is suited ideally to jimmy carters strengths but he is now out injured, we sign a good player like cass who to me looks like poacher and we dont vary our game at all, in other words not enough support for him.i have no idea where the other new guy from chatham plays but i hope he can play up front and tony tries him there becaause i just cant see brendan doing much on his own, he is not that type of player.

May I suggest that certain people read my post again because there is no criticism of any player there at all. I just said that Cass has still not convinced me in the slightest that he is the answer to our problems.
He is obviously not the sort of player who is going to chase every long ball or put any physical pressure on defenders so I assume that he is a "poacher" who has a habit of getting in the right place for any knockdowns or loose balls but so far he hasn't been in the right place.
I find it very amusing that I get criticised for daring to doubt Brendan Cass when all of the posters defending him then go on to blame Ryan and Dave for sending too many crosses over ( or LUMPING the ball forward ?).

Duke, I'm glad you noticed that Dave Martin shot when he should have crossed the ball. Only you, Trev B and about 430 other people noticed that. If I was a winger putting in 99 perfect crosses every game I would be a bit frustrated when no-one gets on the end of any of them.

5th, how can saying that he hasn't conviced me yet be harsh on Brendan?
I also think that the comparison with Jimmy is inaccurate because although he didn't score many goals to start with, I could always see why he was in the team. It was because no-one else matches his incredible workrate and very few have his passion and desire to win games. If I had commented on Jimmy after a few games I don't think that I would have said that he hasn't convinced me that he has anything to offer us!

Revenge is sweet for the Enfield fans as this game went in their favour whilst we had most of the chances, just as we knicked the result at their place.

Too many missed chances hitting the post and crossbar and bringing out some very good saves from their keeper and in the first half non stop pressure on the Enfield goal, whilst they hit our post once in the first half and took the points from an unnecessary foul on the edge of the box, with a good hard low free kick which somehow deceived Kevin and his mishandling mistake let in the goal.(I can only remember a couple of errors this season and how many times has he saved us points)

A good game of football an unfortunate result but congratulations to Enfield and I shook several of their supporters hands at the end and hope they enjoyed the day out.

Kebabus got it right no criticism of any players, we were just not good enough on the dayand missed chances with Enfield just taking one of their only two eforts on goal.

Rambo described Brendan correctly, he is a goal poacher and I'm sure will either take knock down chances or run through and score given the ball inside the box, what he is not is a centre forward who will score goals with his head. except on the odd occasion.

He's a Greaves or Lineker type of player we hope, given the chances and he was a top goal scorer with Chatham so must have a good conversion rate.

We may not have seen him at his best, but as most of Ryan and Davy's crosses are hit high into the box, there is no man to knock the ball down or the tall defenders are able to clear it up field.

I criticised Davy yesterday for missing two apparent clear cut headers, but I was wrong as on reflection he is there to create the chances and perhaps it was Brendan who should have been at the far post to finish.

On the other hand Brendan was picking up balls outside the box and nodding them across to Ryan, Davy or Eddie but got little in the way of service with balls to run onto and he did play Davy through into a perfect position instead of shooting himself, then the ball bobbled and Davy's shot hit the post instead of the net.

In other words we should accept that we might see a better conversion rate from our wingers crosses and chances created for the poacher with the help of an extra man up front, whilst still allowing the likes of Davy, Eddie Ryan and Stevie to shoot or score during the game.

The team has picked it up in the last two games, but we haven't tried two up front from the start or for any length of time since James's injury so why not give it a go T.B. in our next game, we are playing the team at the bottom of the league, at home and we definitely need a win, so what better opportunity to test the formation.

Then we can comment further on the team and players and if it works we can improve and be tested against the likes of Corby, Boreham Wood and especially Chatham all at home, with two away games in between.

We have little to lose and a play off place to be retained so let's go for it.

In fact if I hadn't heard of his previous goalscoring record I'd be wondering how he's getting in the team as he contributes absolutely nothing.

If your last comment of "He contributes absolutely nothing" isn't a criticism then i don't know what is, this is what i thought was harsh.

I know he might not live up to your expectations Ronaldo but give the guy a break. If he didn't contribute anything then Tony wouldn't have signed him or play him.

I leave the team line up to the gaffer, i tend to do my job and that's supporting the team, when we win i'm happy, draw content and lose, bloody awful!

We are not in the position to splash the cash on quality brick shi@houses so we rely on determination in most cases but we also have a few quality players that need to be nurtured steadily, we have slipped up lately (just at the wrong time!) but hey in or out of the play offs, i'm Dartford till i die, i know i am, i'm sure i am.

Knock players, don't knock players, say anything because within reason and decency its what the forum is all about.

Its a committee meeting for fans 365 days a year.

Carry on lads because this club is worth it.

This was a game that could have been killed off by us inthe first half but obviously we didn't take our chances & ultimately we paid for that. There is another culprit that seems to have been overlooked ............ The Pitch!

It was dry, lumpy & responsible for quite a few bobbles. Myself & DJJohn spotted a couple in the first half. One where Dave Martin was about to line up for a shot & it bobbled over his foot. That has to be the worst I've seen it for some time & may have led to their goal if it bounced awkwardly in front of Kevin!

As for Brendan "hasn't got a song" Cass. I would have liked to have seen Glen Billingless brought on a little earlier. Brendan has scored 17 times this year, 16 for Chatham, & I'm assuming that Billingless may have been one of his major supply routes. I noticed when Billingless came on that he & Cass immediately started communicating & discussing positioning. I personally feel that with the two Chatham boys up front we may have the right mix to go 4-4-2 with Dave & Ryan supplying the crosses.

All in all a shame to have lost 1-0 considering the amount of play we had in the first half but oh well, it could be worse!

Forgot to mention the matching red & white boots that Brendan & Glen were affecting during yesterdays proceedings.

Very nice, very tasteful! Was there a sale on in Chatham I wonder?

Anyhoo, thanks to both of them for joining & I hope it leads to a successful & enjoyable few months for all concerned.

matt - the 5th and many others have given them a break [opinion based over 32 games so far ] and with brad potter, tommy olsen and now glen  billeness and teddy ansell back inthe frame then perhaps it is time for a change ???

i am all for loyalty and not reacting to a knee jerk but the time must be getting closer ????

competition not comfort is the key to success !!!!!
