Time to open the thread for discussion - I'll post a list of fixtures later, and possibly some transfer news ;)

According to the official site we've signed Jon Farley from Welling. Does anyone know anything about him?

There are some notes from Tony up in the Notes forum now, and welcome back to Jay May, and hello to John Farley.

I remember Jay May when he played for us before in Sampsons days, he didn't look to bad when he got a game for us up front.

Didn't his brother play for us at some point as well?

When he first got selected he looked very poor but after a little while and he'd settled into the 1st team more he wanted to get stuck in and looked reasonably good. He only seemed to stay with us in the first team for a short while as i think he didn't get selected that often by Tommy and mainly played for the reserve's.

Hopefully he's now got some good experiance under his belt regularly playing for Tonbridge and he can do a good job for us, i vagely remember him appearing fairly often on their score sheet.

I know nothing about Jon Farley though. Can anyone help with this one?

just had a quick trawl through the h swifts web site and it seems that jon farley was rated as a quality [ experienced] player who played games near the end of the season but couldnt see how many he actually played in total

the news says that the manager [ statham] thanked him for being a key member and wished him well which augers well for us , sounds like our type of guy  !!!

lists him as a tough tackling defender - left side , so could slot naturally into left back [ which was a problem last season] and give cover for richard and anthony

seems like a good guy to have on board - fingers crossed !!!!!!

i remember jay may being a bit lightweight but two seasons toughening up at the angels will have done him a power of good and at 23 he should be mature enough

Just to help you guys out, John Farley has played lots of games for Welling and quite a few for the Deres. 100% tough tackling left sided defender, he will keep the rest of the team on their toes if not giving 100%. Good signing

Jay May scored 10 goals in all competitions for the Angels last season and was our leading goalscorer for much of the season before being overtaken in the final few games by Ray Powell. Still has a lot to learn but has bags of potential and should do very well for you lot. Powerful in the air, pretty speedy and certainly has an eye for goal.

John Farley played for us in 2004/05 season and a few games last year. In my opinion, past his best but will add invaluable experience to the defence. Still capable of doing a very good job at Ryman Div 1 level. Oh, and a very nice chap to boot.

Two good signings for you lot. Good luck for next season!

Thanks to jajo and GazzaTAFC for your responces.

Sounds like we've got 2 good signings on board with John who sounds like a very good tough tackler and if he is a left back then that will certainly help and will free up Ozzy to possibly cover at rightback and will also give Tommy Olson & Gary Carter a run for their money which is what we need.

Also if Jay May was able to find the back of the net reasonably well last season then it will give Brendan and Jimmy (sorry James) Carter a bit of a fight for their places along with Ryno and Davey Martin.

It's all started to look good for next season with 2 good players so far on board and our new home i really hope this is going to be a fantastic season.

Come on you Darts.

Sounds like two excellent signing, welcome to John and welcome back Jay, the competition up front will hot up so make sure your fighting fit James you deserve a place in the starting line up.

The left back position was one that Tommy was often caught out by being a right sided player, I'm sure he will be happy to drop into the right back position and still provide excellent cover behind our central pairing.

According to tonights Dartford Messenger Tony say's that John Farley spent 8yrs at Welling and can play in a variety of roles across the back, predominantly as left-back he can also provide cover in midfield.

There could well be more signings and Tony hasn't stopped looking just yet, he's pleased to have strengthend the squad but is still speaking to people. He's not looking at a particular position, it might be a midfielder we'll just have to see how it goes.
