this was my first game this season and being top of the league and reading the reports i was well up for a goal feast.it was not to be , we were very poor.at one down we could have had a pen when dave martin tried to put the ball acroos the goal and i am sure the defender handled it when he put his whole body in front of the ball. dave then put another perfect ball from left to right and somehow brendan did not anticipate and let the ball run off the pitch.
after that we did nothing and never really looked like scoring one let alone two
i dont know if our players took the opposition lightly but if they did then this is very unproffesional, anyway this is for tony to deal with.
hastings were not very good and we really should have had the quality to beat them with the right attitude. my feeling is that we were not clever enough.hastings had nothing much really other than two decent centre halfs that played out of their skins.the keeper had no confidence in his team because every time he got the ball he booted it off the pitch.i felt that hastings could do nothing except defend deep and we did not have the vision to break them down or draw them out, a bit more thought required chaps.
we played most of the time like a team of individuals with no link between the back and middle and middle and front.for example how many times did dave martin have the ball in the top left hand corner and was expected to try and beat 3 players from there , all he needed was someonesupporting him to give an outlet but most of the time theplayer that should have been doing this was barely in the attacking half.on other occasions we had throw ins and no one was available down the line and every one was standing still.
anyway hopefully this is a lesson,at this level of football there is not a lot of difference from top to bottom, the difference is how you apply yourself

other than that its been a great start to the weekend, liverpool lose to the blue noses and i lose another 50 squid on football certs.i think i'll get on inter milan tonite 13/8 awat to fiorentina

Top v Bottom, and the bottom team pointless and playing away too!  So many think it's a guaranteed home banker, but I've always warned that is never the case as today has proved.

Some early reports suggest a below par performance today. If that is the case, then the boys have the ideal opportunity next weekend to put things right straight away, against the same team, same ground, same time, but in the FA Cup.

I will be signing off for a week and will have to wait and see if I can get access to an internet cafe to pick up the midweek league cup and FA Cup results, otherwise I will have to wait until my return from sunny Madiera.

So let's pick ourselves up and keep smiling.

Could not be there today - family commitments.

The first defeat in a season is always painful.  We have had a good run and used up some luck so, perhaps, somebody else was due some today.  This one defeat does not take the gloss off the great start to the season.

From my own point of view, the league cup is of no interest.  We do not have a lot of cover and with the league likely to go down to the wire, the fewer games our top boys have to play, where the club stands to gain very little, the better.  I consider the F.A. Cup to be the exception, due to the prize money structure.  Roll on Saturday when we can put this disappointment behind us and take the next step on the road to that home of English football, Cardiff.

Come on you DARTS!

just got in from a very good entertaining evening at the 5th searchers 30th suprise birthday party and not a hint of alcohol has passed my lips all day

for a start  for grassbanks benefit we were not unlucky today,  in fact , we were verry very lucky that it was not 5-0 , soley down to their very poor finishing , as kevin did not have a save to make all game , god help us if we had played like this against a quality side it would have been a massacre

the truth is that we played a load of tripe today and deservedly got nothing - why i do not know but i have seen more football played at the local park than we played today

the first half was abysmal and any one of the 11 players could have had no qualms about being substituted at half time and eventually  after  circa 70 minutes ryan hayes came on [ who for the 2nd week running looked as though he might just do something] and shortly after billingness but with no change

i make no comment about effort, attitude, desire or committment , thats totally down to TB but i do know that circa 240 darts fans paid probably an estimated minimum of £15 each to watch this performance and if anyone of us left the stadium pleased with our reward then they must be f.....g nuts !!!!!

i genuinely do NOT believe that hastings are a good side but full marks to all of their players for a terrific result today as they totally deserved it

i will be at the match on tuesday [ with my new noisy rattle - thanks to rambo ] in my capacity as  " deputy golden goal seller " and i expect to see a performance that will confirm that saturday was " one off bad day at rhe office "

my post is an honest assessment of exactly how i feel !!!!

A bit like the players today, i just can't be arsed to comment any further at the moment and will possibly say more tomorrow.

Needless to say that my MOTM without a doubt has to go to Mike Whybrow (The kit man) for getting the shirts nice & clean & white.

Well Done Mike.

For me the great thing about football is its unpredictable nature and one of the reasons i go week in and week out.Apart from our dissapointing result yesterday who would have thought that Margate after looking like sweeping all before them would lose 6-1 and that Arsenal will win the Premiership from there position.Lol. Yesterday it was hard to believe that ten players ( with Dave Martin the possible exception) could all play so badly at the same time.It seems the same old problem that we have had for years in central midfield is no closer to beeing solved and at times yesterday they were just being completely overran and i am sure Anthony Henry would be the first to admit it was not one of his finest displays at the back. After watching the reserves get a thumping in midweek it showed that we do not yet have a depth of resourses at the club to realistically make a challenge at the top but with a little bit of tweeking and the return home we are not that far away.  8-)

No matter how much of a talking to T.B. gave to the team before kick-off those 11 Darts players ran out onto the pitch with a "Don't worry lads all we have to do is turn up and the points are in the bag attitude"

Davey Martin did his best but with no one supporting him and 2/3 players marking him throughout the game we didn't come close to scoring and at the other end their left winger had nobody marking him at all as Tommy got dragged into the centre and he had acres of space to run down the line or cut inside virtually un-challenged.

Two goals from dire mistakes, the first a gentle nod back towards Kevin by John Farley saw him asleep and it took a despairing last minute dive to try and avert a corner but to no avail and from the resulting corner kick and a poor clearance a Hasting's player hit a shot through the mass of players into the net.

The second goal was down to Tony Henry when he commited a schoolboy error and chose to nod the ball out of the area along the goal line rather than put it out for a corner, their player picked up the ball and with all our defenders drawn to the near post he hit in a shot/cross and I'm not sure which or whether he scored or somebody got a touch but the ball looped over Kevin and in.

Such was the performance of our players that for me the highlight of the game was when Ryan Hayes came on with around 15 minutes to go and with a volley and two telling crosses he looked the most fired up and interested player on the day, accepting that he had a point to prove, it's just a pity that the other players didn't feel that they had to prove a point to prove as well.

Bad day at the office and a result that several of us felt was on the cards if we didn't start with the right attitude, but full marks to Hastings and now only time will tell if our players have learnt a lesson and have a different opinion of Hastings when we meet them in the F.A. Cup next Saturday.

Here's what was said on Hastings website:

Overall the referee was a total wa**er so was the linesman who only gave fouls when anyone shouted, Dartford were dirty Tommy Osborne, Ryan Briggs, Jay May and Eddie McClements all could've walked but Ade could've aswell.

What a performance we witnessed yesterday, i can't remember the last time we dominated a game that we expected to be a bloody hard match. Firstly i think Nigel has to take a hell of a lot of credit that team could win this league.

I, too, was absolutely flabbergasted and gutted by yesterday's performance. I can't believe it was the same team we saw win 5-0 only a week before. I was particularly puzzled by the formation we were playing at the start. Why was Davie M playing down the middlle for the first 1/4 of the game? We looked totally lost with no outlet at all down the left wing. And why was Tommy O so keen on playing in the middle of defence behind the two centre-backs whenever the opposition were in our half? He doesn't usually do that when playing left-back, does he? Their No. 11 had acres of space every time he got the ball - he must have thought Christmas had come early! Were Tommie and Davie playing to TB's instructions? If so, they clearly didn't work.
I agree, too, with the other posters on the mid-field - or lack of it. Eddie Mac tried to get stuck in, but to no avail. Link-up play with the forwards? - Nuls points. But take nothing away from Hastings - they simply wouldn't give us the time and space to play, so all credit to them. I must disagree, though, with other posters on the whole team being s**t. For me, Richard Avery was the Man of the Match for Darts. In the overall context of the match I thought he had an outstanding game He won virtually every ball that came his way, and without him it really could have been 0-5.
I've just noticed from today's Non-League Paper that Folkestone Invicta are bottom of the Ryman Premier, with 2 draws and 5 defeats out of 7. In the normal course of events I'd say that boded well for Tuesday's League Cup match. But after yesterday's performance...?
Two other points to reflect on:
(1) The sooner we get to PP the better, because (in the 3 matches that I've seen them) we seem totally unable to cope with the high bounce of the ball off the rock-hard pitch (remember Kevin's blooper vs Molesey?), and I can't help thinking that is a major factor in our "home" record being no better than W1 D1 L1. I do hope we don't have the same problem at PP.
(2) Without wishing to sound racist at all (so maybe I shouldn't mention it), but why do we always struggle to cope with tall, rangy afro-caribbean strikers like yesterday's two?

consistant and fair posts by all on yesterday , my thoughts

#  hastings were NOT poor and deserved to beat us but they are NOT a really good team and on paper we should roll them over !!!!

#  many posters including me have for 12 months been on about a real experienced midfielder to control the game and just give it to the " fast young lads " who will destroy the oppos , we do NOT get enough 2nd balls - i can only presume that this guy is NOT available for whatever reason or else surely TB would have brought him in

#  richard avery has come on a bomb and is a very good player , his one weak link is his distribution from the back and is " guilty " of too many long punts out of defence - he is still a youngster so time to work on this

#  i agree , hard pitch - so get them to water it [ we pay rent dont we ??] - i'm pretty sure no water ban in essex !!!!

#  big affro lads a problem ??? - i agree ,  " we are at times a bit to nice " , i am NOT advocating dirty play but there are times when a bit of nastiness is needed - jon farley [who has played at a higher level] certainly has it

i've returned to being " chipper again "  after being  somewhat p....d off on my drive hiome yesterday !!!!!

A bad day at the office, TB has said, yes it was but lets hope that its the only one for a while. The shape of the team and the general play was awful, real awful, it was totally frustrating and i can only hope that EVERYONE holds their hands up and agrees that it was a waste of time yesterday.

I feel sorry for the young lad who was dropped from left back for the return of Farley, because he deserved to keep his place, (no one saying he was injured?) Farley for me hasn't impressed really thus far, but i hold my overall judgement till more games have ben played. Others have described their feelings about yesterday so i won't go over covered ground.

We need to take a good look at yesterday and learn from it, was there a change in tactics/pattern? If it aint broke don't try and fix it!

Having said that at half time 2-0 down at home with 250 Darts fans, Farley off Ryan on, 3 at back, ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!! but that's what I would have done!

Still even with yesterdays frustration, we are still flying high and the bigots at Dover have lost a home game so chin up everybody, 2 cup ties to try and get back into form then put it right for league action there after, brush yourselves down and show us fans who pay our hard earned cash week in week out what you can really do!

Keep the faith all,

Probably the worst game that I have seen since TB took over.

The players just didn't switch on until the last 10-15 Mintes by which time the game had been decided. To me they looked as though they just had to turn up to win and were given a bit of a jolt. At one point I estimated that in the first 12 minutes we had the ball in their half twice.

However, occassionally you will get games like this where nothing happens. 1st touches were poor, passing was poor, timing of runs was poor, defending, holding the ball in midfield ...... poor. Probably best just to write this game off for what it was, a bad day at the office. I would rather we got a performance like this out of the way at this point of the season than towards the end when it could be more crucial. Let's get amongst them next weekend and get back to winning ways. We know the players can do it and so should they.

As for the experienced midfielder, I agree we need one, but I'm with Duke. If there was one available we'd probably have him by now.

No MOM for me this week.

By the By - Many happy returns Matt for last Saturday, sorry we couldn't make it but we hope you had a good night.

It would be churlish to deny that Hastings were much the better team on the day and thoroughly deserved their win. For my money, the real man of the match was their big centre-back (No 5) who I thought played extremely well. As for the Darts, I couldn't see anyone other than Dave Martin or Richard Avery (my MOTM) who could come off the pitch with any credit whatsoever. I'm sure it wasn't the case, but it did look for all the world as if we thought we could just turn up and roll Hastings over without putting in the effort. We are a decent side, but we're not great. To win games we have to work our socks off and play to the max, anything less and we'll come a cropper. At least next week there won't be any complacency. We just weren't at the races on Saturday and surely can't play that badly again next week!

i could easily have NOT voted for a MOM but i have decided to go for davie martin, not that he was brilliant , he was, most times n surrounded by 3 hastings defenders with not a colleague in sight but he kept at it
