As Kebabus has said what would this forum be without differing opinions and with varying lengths of years supporting Darts, age differences, player/team comparisons and above all different personalities, we have to remember it's all in the mind so no wonder we all have our own opinions of players, teams, tactics and matches.

I struggled to remember the two new players names yesterday despite The 5th reminding me at least twice, so I am aware that my brain is losng a good few cells with age, but as long as I can remember where Princes Park is that will do me.

I thought the report in the NLP was a bit poor, but I guess there was a bit of disappointment with the local reporter. Richard Avery was excellent at the back, but I just about make Kevin MOTM, for a number of saves including two crackers when I thought the equaliser was a cert. I felt a bit sorry for Glenn Billenness who has waited ages for his chance and should have scored at least once. Still I'm please that TB speaks highly of his attitude and he's a great guy to have in the squad.

Lew Watts had a good game playing just in front of the back four, but tired a lot after the break. Antony Hogg really didn't have too much time to impress, but I guess they both need a few games under their belts. Eddie and Briggsy had pretty good games in midfield, so perhaps the competition for places is helping!

I'm sure these are the types of games we were losing a year or so back, but the determination and hard work really does make a difference and we got what we deserved - three points.  It's looking pretty good to me.

Come on you Darts!

Potter was left out.

The team was:

Hudson;
Osbourne, Henry, Avery, White;
Briggs (sub Hogg), Watts, McClements (sub Potter), Martin;
Cass (sub Billenness), May.

Unused subs were Hafner and Olson (I think?).

as i could not attend i would be interested to hear how we actually lined up in the middle.did we have two men wide ( 4 across the middle )  with lew being the ball winner very central or did he play deeper holding.
in other words how did lew watts fit in and what did he do

As far as I can recall (all of 48 hours later - my poor grey cells, they ain't what they used to be) Lew Watts played really central, leaving Eddie on one side of him and Briggsy on the other, with Davie Martin switching regularly from left wing to right and back again. He didn't seem to get into their half very much, so I suppose that made him more of a holding player in front of the back four, rather than a midfield ball-winner, which seemed to be Eddie's role.....Unless anybody else thinks differently! :-)

Spot on I would say Hunky Honky greycells or otherwise, Rambo you would recognise Lew Watts as playing in the Brad Potter position just in front of the two central defenders.

that sounds good HH. I think this is the area of weakness in the team that many of us have wanted improved for some time.I hope Lew Watts becomes the difference that can turn a very tight game into a victory.Cant wait for 11/11 but i suspect my radar will take me to Thurrock one more time.

Thanks Trevor it now sounds an even better squad.I assume Lew will very quickly"pick himself".I hope that Brad Potter( who i think is a prospect and a half) and others stick around and fight for their places.This is what its all about,no team will get anywhere with a squad of less than 15 players,even at this level.

Ward puts out an appeal to find wingers for FA Cup clash - EXCLUSIVE
Thursday, 28 September 2006
Ramsgate manager Jim Ward hopes someone can follow in the famous footsteps of Roy Essandoh on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Rams are short on wingers for their FA Cup second qualifying round tie against Nationwide Conference South side Yeading.

And the Scot is searching for a winger or two, who has yet played in the FA Cup this season, to help the Thanet side progress.

Essandoh, who went onto play for Nationwide Conference side Gravesend & Northfleet, shot to fame in 2001 after answering an appeal from then Wycombe Wanderers’ manager Lawrie Sanchez on the internet.

Essandoh, 25 at the time, wrote a fresh chapter in the romantic history of the FA Cup to send Wycombe Wanderers into the semi-finals at the expense of then Premiership side Leicester City.

The Belfast born striker arrived at Wycombe less than a week before the game on 10 March 2001, via an appeal on the internet - and only signed a two-week contract.

But the unknown striker now lives forever in the story of Wycombe Wanderers after heading a dramatic winner, after coming on as a second half substitute.

And after making enquiries for wingers Ryan Hayes (whose on contract at Dartford) and Thamesmead Town’s Sam Thomas recently, Ward is seeking reinforcements

James Gregory (knee), Simon Pettit (thigh) are both unfit, and David Cory and Shane Suter are both coming back from injury.

“Neither are ready to play 90 minutes, but at least one will start, if not two - I’m struggling with all my wide men,” Ward said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk today.

“It’s exactly a position we’ve struggled with all season. Nobody’s claimed the right wing or left wing shirts.

“If there is anyone who wants a go at the Ryman Premier - left or right wing, get in touch.”

Yeading, a side that played Premiership giants Newcastle United in recent years whilst a Ryman League club, will be a tough nut to crack.

“Yeading are a club with a history in the FA Cup over the last few years,” Ward said.

“They had that battle against Newcastle United but it’s a chance to pit our wits against a Conference (South) side.

“But we are at home. We have to give it a right good go on Saturday and see where it takes us.”

Ramsgate, along with Folkestone Invicta and Welling United - and Gillingham - were all knocked out at the first round proper stage last season.

And Ward hopes playing the game at “fortress” Southwood Stadium will see his depleted side through.

“People aren’t keen on coming here,” he said. “I haven’t lost too my games here in the two and a half years since I’ve been back.

“A lot of teams come here not wanting to come down to the coast. Southwood has a bit of a reputation - I don’t know why. I think teams know what we are like. People don’t like coming to Southwood.

“We’ve got to try to win the game this Saturday, even though we have a few injuries. All my injuries have come at the same time - all wide players.

But Ward, and no doubt chairman Richard Lawson, have clocked even more miles in their cars, watching the west Londoners.

“We’ve had them watched,” revealed Ward. “Obviously we’ve done as much homework as we can on them.

“We will give them as much respect as we do. We do things professionally here. We give all teams respect, even Kent League teams. No doubt they’ve watched us.”

And after being knocked out at Nationwide Conference North outfit Nuneaton Borough on 5 November last season, the Rams are desperate to reach that stage again.

“We are all desperate to do well this year but it’s a hard tie,” warned Ward.

“We will give it a go. We will be organised and come in for lunch nice and early.

Ward, meanwhile, urges the Southwood faithful to get behind their depleted side.

He added: “They have certainly backed us this far - our crowds are fantastic.

“We haven’t had less than 350 this year. This is the bigger game in a lot of people’s eyes because it’s the FA Cup.”
