I'm convinced we would have scored more goals today if Cassie had taken the penalty and got his first half hattrick, it seemed they were all trying to play him in 2nd half to complete it! We thoroughly deseved this win, would have been more but their keeper made 2 outstanding saves when it was 0-0, not bad fan numbers either.

See u Monday Don, Leatherhead won!

I have just checked the FA wesbite, which now states that Leatherhead did win 2-1 (and are now away to Torquay in the 1st rounder proper), so we definitely are on for Monday  :-). I also see that most of the Kent clubs in the Cup lost today - including Welling and Tonbridge Angels - while Dover could only draw 0-0. One definite "local" winner was Bromley, who have been drawn away to Gillingham - almost a Kent derby - which can't really be described as a home banker.

we played well today with the game really all over by half time - 2nd half we sprayed it around and at times played it at training ground  pace
but always looked likely to add goals but some good saves by their keeper and a couple of misses kept the score at 3-0 til lthey got a goal about 15 mins from time

casuals actually played some decent football [ although they also stuck the boot in a bit] and  IMO area better side than godalming and YMCA

ryan hayes again looked sharp and will be difficult to drop

maybe the only thing i didnt understand today was with davie martin not playing why was haffy tucking inside instead of exploiting the space wide left against a not very good right back  ?????

overall a good performance , we well deserved the win

MOM was cassie for me but i am very pro the quiet effective role that lew watts is playing for us

my only complaint is that their food from the burger bar was terrible - not fit for a gentleman like me  !!!!

Bloody hell I have to disagree with you everywhere.
MOM def hayes who was selling more dummies tham mothercare.
2nd half we went to sleep and even started the long ball rubbish again, didn't look anywhere near as dangerous.
Haffy wasn't effective on the left and would have liked to see him swap with ryan, though I WILL agree why no Dave Martin?
Food was great value and well cooked, but I didn't have the burger, and since when was you told that you were a gentleman!

conehead , you can forget any chance you had of an invite to miY house  for sunday tea  !!!!!

seriously though , its a game of opinions and o k by me

just to clear up one point though

i didnt suggest davie martin should have played [ not worth risking with slight injury vs casuals] , what i was saying that we badly needed the width on the left whether it be ryno or haffy !!!

see you monday , who knows might even agree on a couple of points

A Memorable Day!
« Reply #38 on: October 29, 2006, 03:24:00 PM »

Well we finally made it yesterday - our first game of the season to see the Darts at Corinthian Casuals. (hopefully the first of many). What a great day it turned out to be too.

Firstly, to again renew all our acquaintances with the hardcore DFC fans, and in the short time available to recall some memorable times from the past over a pint in the bar before the game, was brilliant. Nothing seems to have changed too much - even the songs remain from years gone by with just a few of the lyrics obviously needing a tweak here and there!

Secondly, to have our first look at the current squad that TB has assembled was the main objective and I must say it seemed like a breath of fresh air to see the lads out there who are performing for the Darts at this current time. I may be a 'biased outsider' but still feel that I can speak objectively and constructively even after seeing the team perform for the first time this season.

It's obvious for us all to see that TB has managed to achieve a perfect mix of youth and experience out there on the pitch. One that reflects the obvious intention of playing like a complete unit instead of the normal 'individual prima donna' mode which is all too common at this level. Everyone is appearing to be playing for each other rather that playing individually as we see too often. There are lots of other points we noticed but will just say that we enjoyed what we saw yesterday.

It's nice to be able to put faces to the names constantly mentioned here on the Dart's Forum and so glad that we have been able to make this trip before the big day on the 11th.

Thanks again to everyone for the hospitality, banter, and good wishes from yesterday. See you all again at PP on the glorious 11th.

A good performance on Saturday once we got the first goal under our belt and with Cassie on target for the first two goals and Ryan buzzing on the wing and taking the penalty well for his goal we went in at half time expecting more.

The second half was as The Duke said almost used as a training session with non stop passing along the deck working the ball forward and creating chances on several occasions which their goalie did well to stop with saves from Jay May and others.

As per normal we just had to give a goal away with sloppy marking but it was just reward for Corinthians second half display as they didn't give up despite hardly touching the ball as we played keep ball waiting for the chances to occur and move forward.

The Corinthian forward with the pony tail was tricky on both flanks and gave both our full backs problems and he created the cross to the far post for their consolation goal.

Although most will probably go for Cassie as M.O.M. with his two goals and workman like performance I have voted for Lew Watts who did his job playing behind the midfield whilst moving forward on numerous occasions and playing the ball out wide to Ryan to send him on his way or finding Jay/Cassie with passes through the middle.

UP THE DARTS

I already knew that - the  wife told me

I'm going for Ryan simply because the amount of times I have seen him go past people just to waste a shot or get a save out of the keeper when Cassie was shouting is unbelievable. But saturday was different, he had his head up looking for people all afternoon, hell he even tackled somebody 10 yds from his own corner flag!
I have to agree about Lew Watts though. Every time he has the ball he never rushes the pass and really shows he has played at a higher level. When we have a few 0-0 scores I can see him making a few MOM's of his own.
Cass DID play well as he has done for 2 weeks running, and looks to have a fire in his eyes, but he needs the ball to score and if someone gives him a good supply all afternoon then to me that gives Ryan the edge. Mind you someone sign that keeper though, his first save was magnificent!

p.s I'm usually drinking with Malcolm and Micky Austin do you think a COUPLE of pints will be enough.

Best make that read barrels Conehead and I've heard tell that Malcolm offers to change the barrels when they run out if the bar persons busy just to save valueable drinking time.

Malcolm a p**shead never, not from the lad I went to school with and the head boy at Dartford Tech, on second thoughts make that four barrls Conehead.

Overall a good performance , with a little luck and a good save from their keeper , we could have been 6-0 up at half time  , then again for the first 15-20 mins of the 2nd half  , their keeper kept the score the same.Good to see Ryan continue his good form and for at 70 mins good to see us play carpet football. Good to see so many Dartford fans at the game too , hopefully a good gate tonight for a tough examination against Leatherhead.
By the middle of December we will have played , cup matches pending , the likes of Leatherhead , Fleet , Dover and Sittingbourne and we will have a clearer picture of where we are at in this league.

Belated question: When the Darts were awarded the penalty, did the Casuals' keeper step aside, leaving an empty goal to aim at, as Chocolate@Pink had earlier suggested was the custom?

No, but to be fair, their defence stepped aside and allowed us past them for most of the afternoon!  :-D
