I suppose Welling had to come good themselves sometime because they don't seem to have had the best of results themselves against their own levell of opposition. We were the underdogs after all, and being down to ten men doesn't neccessarily give a true reflection of the scoreline.

I'm sure we can turn it around on Saturday.  Keep smiling. /smug

The difference in class was obvious tonight for all to see with Welling taking the game to us and being reasonably solid at the back winning most things in theair and being quick to close us down.

We did well to hold out to halftime at 0-0 with Welling having 2 or 3 chances in the 1st half and us not really getting to close.

After about 10 - 15 minutes of the 2nd half a Wings forward was clean through on goal with Tony Henry clearly pulling him back and Hudson diving to his feet the player went over the top of Kevin with the ref having no hesitation to award the spot kick and giving Tony Henry a straight red card.

The spot kick was coolly taken and slotted to Kevins right without him even moving.

For some reason we seemed to step our game up a bit more after going down to 10 men and tried to bring it to Welling with Haffy running at their defence as was Nicky Barnes who i thought had a really good game in the central midfield, playing more of an Eddie McClements role with Hogg holding back a little and Brad Potter more in the holding role just behind the midfield & in front of the defence.

Jimmy Carter was looking better up front constantly chasing the ball and getting stuck in and even Glen Billiness had one of his better games tonight, i do wish he'd take a shot when he gets the chance though rather than passing the ball backwards again. You can really see a lack of confidence in him as though he's scared to shoot.

About 25 minutes into the 2nd half Welling scored goal No2 after some good work out on the wide right they hit in a hard low cross which evaded the defence and went straight to an unmarked forward who hit a side foot volley into the net.

Davie Martin came on with about 15 - 20 minutes to go in place of Jimmy and you could really see his class and at times was just to much for the Wings players to handle. He was non stop chasing and battling and put in some really solid tackles, he also managed to unleash a shot with about 10 minutes to go which just went wide of the upright.

Then with about 10 minutes to go they scored goal No 3 when they had a man at the back post completely unmarked to score past Kevin.

With about 5 or so minutes to go we took off Glen and Hogg and brought on both Ryans Hayes & Briggs and was attacking a bit more. With only a couple of minutes to go Ryno tried to lob the keeper but his shot unfortunately hit the cross bar and went over.

We tried but imho the level of opposition was probably that little bit to much for us at this moment in time, although we didn't have our regular 1st team 11 out on the pitch i don't really think the scoreline would've been very much different.

Im not to sure how strong Wellings side were in terms of regular 1st teamers being fielded and bench players being used but we didn't really test their keeper at all but thats probably a lot to do with them not really letting us and  closing us down quickly, plus having a fairly strong defence.

The line up was as follows: Hudson - Osbourne - White - Henry - Avery - Potter - Barnes - Haffy - Carter - Hogg - Billiness / Subs: Martin - Hayes - Briggs - Cass - Tedder.

My MOTM goes to Haffy, but was very closely contested by Nicky Barnes.

Just out of interest for those who hadn't realised, tonights referee Mr Ian Crouch is supposedly the same ref as we've got for our home game on Saturday.

Lets hope he's not brandishing anymore red cards to our players against Horsham YMCA.

No complaints with tonight - I didn't think we played too badly though. The red card killed us, but it was deserved (AH looked the last man, and if he's the last man, it's a red).

Barnesy is my MOTM - thought he played very, very well last night.

Referee did okay for me - sensible on the whole.

I echo Gary's comments. Welling certainly played more football first half but you would not have known there was a two division gap between us.Welling came out strong in the second half and if not for some last ditch tackles could have gone 1-0 up before the penalty , which you could not argue with.We then played better with ten as we played a better passing game with Nicky Barnes being very prominent.Always going to be a struggle with ten and Welling made the advantage count but having made six changes from Saturday it was always going to be tough.Good to see James C get some much needed game time , good to see Haffy getting stuck in  , good to see Dave Martin looking dangerous when he came on and good to see Richard Avery have another good game.
Hopefully no injuries were picked up and we can now fully focus on Saturday.
It will be interesting to see if everyone is fit who TB will play against YMCA.
For me man of the match was Nicky Barnes , strong in the tackle , passed the ball well , good movement and kept running all night.

I fully agree about Nicky Barnes, good tackling, good distribution. I can't see any reason for him not to play on Saturday.

From where I was standing (behind the Welling dug-out) TH's challenge didn't look all that bad and I didn't think the straight red was warranted to be honest, but I'm sure that there were others with a better view of it than me.

Dave Martin & Ryan Hayes made an instant impact when they came on, and my brother-in-law (psuedo welling fan) heard their bench remark on Ryan Hayes class and touch.

Here's looking forward to Saturday (hoping all problems are ironed out by then)

Who would you leave out?

This is not my personal choice, but if I was a betting man, I would expect Tony to start with

                                            Hudson,

                            Osbourne, Avery, Henry, Hogg

                              Briggs, Watts, McClements

                      Hayes                                     Martin
                                            Cass

Subs: Barnes, Carter, Potter, White, Haffner

.... unless Jay May is fit again in which case at least one very good player isn't even going to get a spot on the bench.

Personally I would start with Danny White at left back.

Spike. Your proposed lineup above suggests that Tony Henry is available for selection following his red card on Tuesday. I sure hope he is available because I enjoyed watching him and Richard Avery's partnership at the end of last season and I would be very disappointed if he was unable to play on Saturday. Also, with this ruling of a red card for the last defender, if it is a 3 match ban (and I don't know whether it is a 1 or 3 match ban) I think it is a bit harsh considering 2 yellow cards = 1 red card = a one match ban, especially as Tony doesn't seem to have been guilty of violent conduct, but just a shirt pulling obstruction. A case of the punishment not fitting the crime, me thinks. The sending off should be sufficient punishment and certainly not a 3 match ban !!

Can anybody confirm?

oh and by the way ,  i rate cassie  !!!!!!

I think that the guys listed on the bench deserve it ,  bit hard on reso keeper and billo but thats life  !!!!

According to theFA.com, the ban occurs on the 14th day after the offence, and for denying a goal scoring opportunity, it's a one match ban. By my reckoning, it's Leatherhead away that Anthony will miss.

I thought that a straight red ment you automatically incurred a 3 match ban whatever it was for.

But what do i know, i can never keep up with all these rule changes nowadays.

And in answer to Dukes question about the ref:

He wasn't to bad, there was the odd dodgy decision made but overall he was ok.
