Cray Wanderers, at Bromley FC on Saturday - Match Thread
« on: November 16, 2006, 10:54:25 AM »

For Clubs using M25 Motorway
Leaving the M25 at Junction 4, follow the A21 to Bromley and London, for approximately 4 miles and then fork left onto the A232 signposted Croydon/Sutton.

At the 2nd set of traffic lights turn right into Baston Road (B265), following it for about 2 miles as it becomes Hayes Street and then Hayes Lane. Bromley FC is on right hand side of road just after a mini roundabout. There is ample room for coaches to drive down the driveway, turn round and park.

By Train

The nearest station to the ground is Bromley South which is serviced by trains from London Victoria. Trains run regularly up until 23:56 midweek and later at weekends. There are also about two services an hour from London Blackfriars. If your train into London goes via East Croydon it may be easier to get off there and catch the 119 bus to the ground (approximate journey time: 40 minutes).

On Foot (from Bromley South)

Turn left out of the station and then right shortly afterwards into Westmoreland Road, at the traffic lights by the T-junction near the Police Station and the Churchill building. Turn left just after the church into Hayes Road. Take care to follow the road when it bears round to the left rather than ending up in Cameron Road. At the end of Hayes Road turn right into Hayes Lane having first crossed Hayes Lane using the traffic island near the mini-roundabout. The drive to the ground is about 200m on your left.

Comparison to come tonight.

i watched cray in a trophy  at waltham forest 3 weeks ago ,a game they won 2-1.wf are actually in  a great run of form at the moment but cray were very much the better team.they looked like they were playing 4 4 2 and were only on the back foot for a 15 minute spell in the second half when they found wf trickery and speed very hard to cope with.we must expose for pace a very good but very old centre half if he plays (james earl hannigan)i am sure he played us last season, enfield i think.dont lump the ball to him ,he will just eat it up.

a very good 40 year old forward ,abbott, led the line(i am sure most of you know him) he cant be underestimated.very good in the air,so watch those corners and free kicks.his partner was a proper midget forward ,very mobile and quick but i gather he was covering for another injured forward.

they had this midfield teenager called LOVE and he scored the best goal i have seen in non league for some years.a volley from an angle on the right outside the box which almost split the net.

the  management were very passionate on the day so i expect the players will be really up for this ,wanting to beat the big new darts

but it will be to no avail as i have seen the future as man of the match lew watts will see us to a comfortable 2-0 win.

Can't wait for a midweek Reserves fixture at PP, but will be going to Hayes Lane.

We should watch out for Leigh Bremner, who by all accounts, is a pain in the rear for the opposition.

Congratulations from Cray Wanderers on the opening of your new ground and professional way you have got things up and running. It must be great playing and watching in front of such large numbers. I know it is a nigh-on unanswerable question but would you have any idea on how many will be coming up to Hayes Lane on Saturday for the game against us?

Any views will be gratefully accepted so that we can provide sufficient programmes, catering and probably most important of all bar staff.

At a rough guess i would say we would take about 100 - 125 with us. Sorry but we certainly won't have 500 - 1000. :-o

You mean like Dover keep promising.

This match now becomes our Match of the Day with three points at stake against our former landlords (Thanks for that) and a team who have had a steady start to the season and will be relishing the opportunity to put one over on us.

To me the midweek result was not too unexpected IMHO (take note Conehead - and Lewis !!), especially with BW now towards the top in the higher division and also, I'm quite sure the events of last weekend would have left the lads with a slight anti climax, especially emotionally draininng. I am still on cloud nine even after the midweek defeat, trying to take in all the high points of last weekend.

Probably been good that some of the lads were cup tied and we will now have some fresh legs on the park for this match. With Fleet, Dover and Molesey all at home, we need to try to haul in maximum points from this game, and I'm sure Tony and the boys will be up for it.

Cray Wanderers are a very good team. Attacking wise Bremner, pacy and direct coupled with Abbott, tough and good in the air makes a formidable attack. Lover in midfield IMO is their best player. Temperment wise though a very suspect team. Always prone to a sending off or 3!!! They have a lary management duo in Jenkins and ex Dart (reject ) Francis who really get them revved up.

This is going to be a toughy....

Mikey - all Saturday fixtures kick-off at 3pm. The entrance fees are down to the home clubs, but all in our division are either £7, £8 or £9 (for the top stadia!).

Unfortunately I cannot make it tomorrow after all; mother-in-law duties in Wiltshire to look forward to instead. Still, it will make the trip to Leatherhead on Tuesday even more pleasurable, so I'll see you all then.

I fancy a 2-1 win tomorrow - especially as their keeper is a closet Darts' fan!!  Come on you Darts!

If it hadn't have been for Cray Wanderers helping us out in our hour of need we may not even have a Dartford FC by now. I for one will never forget that.

So lets not beat them by too many.  :-D
