Or if you don't fancy the walk, jump on the fast track bus and you'll get dropped right outside, just ask for Princes Park!

It is just a few mindless individuals on forums that create an atmosphere of disharmony.

I think you are probably right. Whilst forums (or is it fora?!!) are a great way to keep in touch, exchange views and have a bit of banter, an unfortunate "spin side" is that some people do get carried away when hiding behind the anonimity and go too far and generate some bad feeling. I think this is probably what happened after the Darts v Dover matches last season, and it's carried on here recently. It's provided an opportunity for a handful to stir up some bad feeling, whilst the vast majority have no issues at all. The problem is, it has caused concern for some fans, particularly some newer fans and those with young families who could quite understandibly interpet some of the comments on here as meaning there is some really bad feeling and the chance of trouble at the game. I feel sure this has contributed to the decision to segregate the fans too, which has compounded the issue further.

It's a great shame because whilst we've been rivals for a few years, certainly in the 1980s, there has never been any animosity between the clubs, and 99.99% of us are immensely looking forward to what should be a terrific game. Dover and their fans are most welcome at Princes Park, but it is a great shame that they won't be able to enjoy all of our hospitality with us.

Unfortunately I can't make it because of family committments, but to all of you Darts and Whites fans - have a great day and enjoy a great game. I'm sure there won't be any trouble at all, but if one or two daft buggers do go a bit OTT, then make sure we have a word in their ear!

Up the Darts!!

I too feel that things have been un-necessarily stirred up on the Internet (by both camps too - the whole "Chimp at Work" incident just proves that some people are basically so childish as to rile up other supporters for no discernible reason.

I hope that after this match both sets of supporters can grow up.

Yeah, maybe it was. I was really only referring to the idiots who have been causing trouble on both sides.

So it's official the game is to be segregated.

Reason given according to kentishfootball website is:

"there was a few people on websites that did have information from Dover supporters that there could be quite a few people that could cause problems"

Well thank you very much all the idiots that created the scaremongery and decided to invent a situation that does not exist. You have managed to spoil what should have been a celebration of two old rivals coming together in a fantastic venue. You have taken away from us on this occasion everything that is good about non-league football. The humour, the friendliness and the TOGETHERNESS. I hope you are proud of yourselves.

Darts "advised" to keep rival fans apart
« Reply #83 on: December 08, 2006, 12:15:34 AM »

Just noticed (late on Thursday night) that the website is currently "offline" for some reason - but here is the article that I wrote regarding Saturday's game...

I am hoping these problems will be sorted out ASAP or I will not be very happy.

Regards
Stephen McCartney
Editor
www.kentishfootball.co.uk

Dartford bosses have put in place measures to ensure Saturday’s derby with Dover Athletic is another excellent football occasion at their stunning Princes Park Stadium, writes Stephen McCartney.

A crowd of up to 2,000 fans are expected at the £6.5m stadium, which stages it’s second Kent derby.

Both sides are in the top four in the Ryman League Division One South table but Darts’ co-chairman Mr David Skinner has put in place measures so both sets of fans can enjoy the occasion.

“The game will be segregated,” he told www.kentishfootball.co.uk tonight.  “Dover fans will be in the west terrace, the car park end.”

But he confirmed that Dover Athletic fans cannot access the two bars at the stadium, but they will have food and toilet facilities at their end of the all-covered stadium.

“It’s too much to get them in and out of the bar again and stewarded,” was Mr Skinner's reply as to why travelling fans cannot access bar facilities.

“They will have their own toilets and food facilities on that terrace.  There is a pod so they will have all that.”

Mr Skinner explained why both sets of fans have been kept apart.

He explained: “On the advice of the safety advisory group, their advice was that they haven’t got any hard intelligence of any problems but there was a few people on websites that did have information from Dover supporters that there could be quite a few people that could cause problems.

“The advice was to segregate and that was agreed by the safety advisory group, which is the three emergency services, the contractors, architects, council and everyone involved at the stadium.

“We don’t expect any problems to occur but we thought it would be best to segregate just to ensure there won’t be any problems.

“We’ve got something like twenty stewards plus a dozen people for the car park and seating areas etc.”

Mr Skinner reminded fans that Princes Park is a non-smoking stadium and fans must not stand in the walkway at the back of the terracing/seating areas.

He said:  “The walkway must remain clear as that’s the main emergency route out and having those walkways clear means we can exit the entire stadium of 5,000 people in two and a half minutes, which is the recommended time to evacuate the stadium so you can see now why it’s essential for people not to block the gangways.”

Dartford’s last home game at Princes Park, against Kent rivals Sittingbourne, was brought forward two hours after issues with floodlighting.

“The floodlights have been fixed,” said Mr Skinner.  “The (Ryman) League were given the new certificate on Monday which satisfied their requirements and assuming it stops raining the pitch will be ok.”

On homecoming day, an emotional 4-2 win over Horsham YMCA last month, loud music was pumping from loud speakers, but ever since then no music has been allowed to play at the stadium.

“At the moment we’re not allowed music because of the planning restrictions to play music but we are looking to get that changed in the future,” said Mr Skinner.

Back on the pitch, manager Tony Burman knows the importance of keeping calm against a side that are three points below his second placed side.

“Obviously it’s a big game because it’s involving two teams in the top five,” he said.  “It’s a Kent derby, which again, is a little bit more intensive.

“We’re weary of their strengths.  Dover are a good side and the favourites to go up.

“It’s going to be a difficult game for us but if we want to improve we have to put in good performances against Dover and hopefully get the result that we want.”

Former Dover Athletic man Steve Norman is expected to be in the sixteen-man squad having signed from Folkestone Invicta earlier in the week.

And striker James Carter, could also feature in the squad if Tunbridge Wells’ game at Deal Town falls victim to the weather.

Carter is on loan at Culverden Stadium at present and Burman added: “Jim will be playing for Tunbridge Wells if their game is on.  If not he will be with us anyway.  I haven’t made my mind up on my sixteen (man squad) just yet.”

With so much at stake, Burman is keeping a calm.

“If we win, lose or draw it doesn’t mean that the team is going to be promoted,” he said.

“It’s another game which we will be trying our best to get three points.  It’s still December and as far we we’re concerned we want to get a little run going.”

Dartford  v  Dover Athletic
Ryman League Division One South
Saturday 9th December 2006
Kick Off 3:00pm
At Princes Park Stadium, Grassbanks, Darenth Road, Dartford, Kent DA1 1RT

My thoughts go back to an occasion when Bolton Wanderers were playing at Tranmere (possibly our last season in the old Div 1/2) and their manager, Sam Allardyce, apparently saw red at some incident in a game they lost and at the end of the game, ushered his players on to the team coach without even allowing them to get changed after the match. We supporters never got to know about it until later, causing bad blood.

I also refer to the following postings made between lion85 and myself whilst we were getting updates on the Darts v Borehamwood match, when we were discussing the policing situation when Havant & Waterloovile entertained Millwall fans in the recent FA Cup match and the cost of policing caused H&V to make a loss on the tie due to the reputation of some Millwall supporters.

I said "Lion85, I am also a season ticket holder at Tranmere and saw Millwall play them a couple of weeks ago.
Millwall brought up a crowd of 314 out of 7114. There was heavier policing than usual, but in fairness, I wasn't aware of any problems on the Friday night fixture. In fact it was a cracking and open game, even though Millwall lost 3-1."

lion85 replied "I was at that game Pete and yes 12 of us got a 25 police escort to the ground. I'm fed up with it. Great bunch of Tranmere real fans who we drank with in the pub"

It's a pity Millwall have this reputation as Havant and Waterlooville just had to pay Premiership rates of £35000 at the weekend for Hampshire Constabulary to police 400 Millwall supporters in the FA Cup match transferred to Portsmouth. They actually lost £10000 on the tie. The police have come under heavy criticism in the weekend press for the excessive costs - and rightly so!!

My points are
(a) the majority of fans are sensible and the few nutters are spoiling it for the rest.
(b) Leads must come from the top, and the Sam Allardyce incident reminds me of the refusal of hospitality by Dover officials after the FA Trophy replay.
(c) Whilst sadly Millwall have gained a reputation, lion85's comments still show that opposing fans had no problems with pre match drinking in one of the two pubs outside Tranmere's ground, but in fact enjoyed the occasion with no problems.

My thoughts are that I would have hoped the match v Dover in our new PP would have been an occasion for bridge building between the two clubs. Even the majority of postings amongst regular fans on this site, and visitors from Dover, have been playing down any problems amongst the sensible supporters.

I am used to crowd segregation inside the ground at Tranmere, but there is mixing of fans outside the ground, albeit with a police presence depending on the anticipated size of the visiting support. But it is still possible to intermingle with the visiting fans in pubs without incident, as lion85 has reported.

So, yes, I am disappointed there is crowd segregation, but I will  perhaps have to accept that for this occasion. But I will be even more disappointed if Dover fans are not able to enjoy our hospitality after the game, and may be that decision is reversible, as to me the two are different considerations.

So, I echo Martin C's comments above. It will take something away from the day.

Well I'm going to the match (my first at PP) and will be taking my 10 year old son. A few idiots posting stupid messages on the internet won't put me off going to what should be a great top of the table clash between old rivals. I'm a returning old Darts fan & whilst I have seen some violence in the past at Darts matches (back in the 70's & 80's) it was always very rare! As many people have already said on this site one of the great things about non-league football in particular is that you can almost always mingle with & have a pint with the opposition fans (VS Rugby & Kettering fans were a good bunch I recall)! xpeter

Hello there,
Coming to England from Sweden for a Sunday game but had some English friends suggesting going to the Dartford-Dover game on the Saturday, if I wanted lower league football. Just have a few questions:
- Tickets, pay at the gate? No risk for sell out?
- Pubs, saw a few mentioned, any to reccomend?
- Dartford, not having been there before, are there any must-sites?
Thanks in advance!
Frederic (Stockholm)

Socrates,
How will we recognise you ?  Are you going to drap yourself in a Sweden flag ?

In terms of must see sights, if you like shopping try Bluewater (secong biggest shopping centre in Europe - apparently).  You can get the Fast Track bus there from Dartford Station and then back again to see the match at Princes Park and meet up with us lot in the bar. Then you can come back Sunday night for the Quiz :-D

Your spot on Martin, I've seen loads of Dover games over the 50+ years home and away and with no trouble at all, last season was no exception and the only animosity between clubs was generated last season by their manager who chose to use strong and foul language about the Dartford team after a game that saw several of his players injured.

True fans from Dover have subsequently posted on this site about the game in question and the replay and have accepted that on the day we were the better team and it is only in the lead up to this game tomorrow that selected comments from both sets of posters have appeared to inflame the situation.

New supporters from either camp please come along tomorrow and enjoy a good competitive game as I don't anticipate any trouble and to Dover fans please accept my apologies for segregation and ommision from the bars, neither situation would have been the choice of posters on this site as they enjoy meeting you and the banter between both sets of fans.

As a Dover supporter coming to the game tomorrow i'm very disappointed about the segragation. With 20 stewards working plus those requested from Dover you would have hoped there would not be the need. It's times like this that you hope while having a pint together bridges get mended. I would have thought it would have ended with both lots of supporters trying to out sing each other in thebar!!!   :-D
