well pleased with the result,my nerves were tested at the end, when we went 3-1 up though why oh why did we sit back cos chatham were not great at the back and a 4th goal would have finished them, as it was we concede  yet another soft goal and had to hang on a bit and with our defensive record is that such a good idea??
A good perfomance on an uneven pitch, credit to chatham for fighting back but a word of warning ----------teams who let 2 goals in every game rarely win things, unless they are Brazil and that we ain't. Shame that hastings scored in "dovertime"lifes a bitch sometimes!!

ok so my maths is NOT as bright as my glowing personality [its my parents fault !! ] but my point is that unbeaten runs containing too many draws are no good !!!!!

also

l would also like to walk about all week but just sometimes one has to do the basic things for the good of the team !!!!!

Duke, it could have been worse. But for two last minute goals, it could have been two losses rather than two draws.  Also, iI'd find it off putting if somebody stood behind me the whole game tellling me what to do.

Let's not be too unkind to James Tedder just on the basis of yesterday's game. All right, he is a tall lad and yes, he could command his area a bit better, but he shouldn't really be marked down too much for yesterday's two goals - they both occurred in very crowded penalty areas: the first he will have seen very late, coming from the edge of the box through a ruck of players, and the second he was blocked off from coming to gather the ball (I seem to remember a couple of Premiership goals of similar ilk over the weekend, without being able to recall who). In both cases, poor defensive headers didn't help.

A goal keeper has to be ordering his back four about and who here felt comfortable being young ordering older people about. That will take time. He is young and most keepers peak a lot later than the outfield players, besides for all the moaning you lot are doing about the results we are getting we ARE doing great and it would make anyone nervous to have to step in when a team is going well, Just look at chelsea's keepers and defence at the mo and you'll see the point.

Constructive criticism?? Don't get it. If it's still criticism, how is it constructive?

From comments in the bar after James knows he has a lot to learn and room for improvement which shows a level headed young man who is willing to work for his place and will try to fulfill the potential he has.

I find it a bit more disturbing that every time we moan about the defensive frailties of a game we end up voting for a defender! :?
Me included. Ryan played superb, most palying errors were caused by a bumpy pitch but Guest just shaded it for me with a couplef good tackles, and a lovely bit of keepy up to pass the ball down the line.

Our defensive play of late has been embarassing. This is very strange because we have signed Guesty who is probably the best defender that has been at the club since Terry Ratchford. Then with the experience of Norman and Osbourne at full back and the bright Avery completing the four, the ingredients are there.

The Who (bear with me) were a band with a great vocalist in Daltrey, the fantastic Keith Moon on Drums, arguably one of the best bassists ever in Entwhistle and the unorthodox but highly talented Townsend on lead guitar. All musicians of the highest standard yet the Who were an above average band at best. Even with all the ingredients, they didn't quite achieve the heights they could have done even though they had and still continue to have a successful career.

Now we have the ingredients in our defence, it is up to the coaches to get them playing in tune, to hit the right notes at the right time and stop hitting those bum notes.

I can't quite work it out but were we so disorganised with Tony Henry in there? I think Avery misses him a bit. I'm not suggesting for one second that Henry is a better player than Guest but just look at our defending recently. This is something that needs to be addressed should we wish to maintain a promotion push.

I didn’t think young Tedder did too much wrong yesterday. He fell the con of being obstructed for the second goal where a more experienced keeper would have taken the opposing players in the way out of the game first.

What worries me more is our midfield (excluding the wide players). They seem to sit back too close to our central defenders and just get in each other’s way. We also don’t have anyone who has the quality on the ball to link up with our forward line. I know Eddie plays this role well when he’s fit but he seems to spend too much time on the sidelines. Assuming we are not going to buy in what alternatives do we have? Teddy Ansel when fit, McGuire from the resos or bring back James Carter who I think would do a good job in there.

On the defensive side of the game I think our biggest problem is defending set-pieces which is more of a team responsibility. How many goals have we let in this year through corners and free kicks? If I was the opposition’s manager I would encourage as many long high balls into the box as possible because we simply do not clear our lines. In truth we are still a few players short of ever winning this league outright and perhaps TB has been a little bit too loyal with 1 or 2 long term team members. Although it's still early days I have faith with the current management setup as in good time they will deliver the goods.

Roll on Saturday.

john guest is getting MOM s as he is playing very well and that just as well as despite the quality and experience of the other 3 we do NOT look solid as even the recent golas against show

just for clarity i was NOT having a pop at young tedder [ just the opposite ] , he has a lot to learn and our shaky back four did not help his confidence at chatham , perhaps [ if he doesnt already] he needs to learn some expletives  [~<+*$"] to yell when he gets upset  !!!!!!

gutsy old performance at chatham and as chelski prove you dont have to be a great footballing side to grind out 3 points !!!!!!

roll on whiteleafe saturday !!!!!!

Despite the efforts I'm sure TB is putting in, I suspect a lot of our defensive problems is down to getting a settled back four. Tony Henry has gone, Guesty is still quite new, Norman is even newer, and there has been a lot of shuffling around at left back (Tommy, Danny White, Brad Potter and Steve Norman, as well as the more mature player with the long-term injury whose name momentarily slips my aged mind). The only constant is Richard Avery. Now is it my imagination, or have too many of the high balls into the box been attacked by too many of our defenders going for the same ball and/or not picking up "their" attacker? If it needs someone on the pitch to organise the defence, then Guesty seems to be going about it the right way, with his directing and shouting. He has a lot to teach the younger players, so let's hope he can do it. He should certainly be an inspiration with the saving tackles he has beein putting in! Some heading practice (with the emphasis on distance and direction) would't go amiss either!
