NOT a good game!
Positives: Kessel in goal looked very agile!!
             Clean Sheet at last!!!
John Guest performance was pretty solid to say the least!
Massive attendance-made me proud of our new ground all over again!

Negatives: Quite a few, however maybe im comparing our last few PP games too much?!! But I think we needed to shoot more! Just my personal feeling but i love a team that isnt afraid to take thier chances from all angles and distances (within reason)
Might sound a bit harsh seeing as we have been banging them in latley but today we were poor!

Not Good? well I guess that's relative - sometimes you're only as good as the opposition let you be.
Must agree with your positives - our defence seems to have learned (at last) that it's better to be positive and put the ball out of trouble than indecisive - shall I boot it or play it out of trouble - by which time the opponents have usually taken advantage! Also Kess seemed to inspire some confidence in the defence and was shouting positively at them. (No implied criticism of Kevin here!)

On your negatives to be able to shoot more you need to create space to do it, Cray closed down very quickly today and there were few clear shooting chances. We did seem to try bypassing the midfield rather too often rather than doing what we're good at ie passing the ball around making the opposition chase it and creating gaps for shots. This also has the advantage of tiring them and makes for more opportunities later in the game (when we seem to be good at getting goals).

both teams were more determined not to lose than they were to win
the new keeper was very good and the defence responded by not defending to deep.norman was excellent and the only fault in the defence was the constant hoofing the ball out of PP.for the first time i could not fault guests heading,he even put in a very brave attempt to score.
neither team had any width and i thought our team selection was wrong.we had a choice of forwards from cass carter and billeness but chose to lose our width by playing ryan up front.he could have murdered either cray fullback.
if forwards are going to score they need a supply but todays supply was negligable,we desperately need some some width and i hope tony can find it quick.

Why oh why wasn't James Carter playing up front from the beginning, giving him just 10 or so minutes was just im sorry to say completely pointless especially when it was our leading goal scorer and the 1 player that looked likely to get us a goal that was taken off & replaced by Jim.

Most of the supporters behind the goal had beed shouting for JC to be brought on after about an hour and we certainly didn't expect Cassie to be taken off. When the substitution was being made there were a few boo's heard from behind the goal but i am certain this was to do with the decision to take Brendan off rather than say Teddy who didn't really do a lot in the game at all and seemed completely lost out wide.
Absolutely nothing against little Ted at all it's just he's not a winger and certainly doesn't have the pace to be one so shouldn't have been playing out in this position, if he is going to be played then play him in the middle of the park where he's used to. When ever Ted got the ball he just went backwards with it as he didn't have any pace to get past the fullback.

Haffy should've been out wide on the left with Ryno wide right in his normal position, not play Ryno up front ahead of Brendan he just seemed lost and looked like he didn't know where he should be and so kept drifting back to his normal place out wide.
Ryan was whipping in some brilliant crosses which we just couldn't convert and apart from Brendans header in the 2nd half which the keeper tipped over we didn't seem to cause their keeper any real problems at all.

Briggo had a good game in the middle of the park and Bruce looked a bit better today than when i last saw him against Molesey and was very unlucky not to score when he slid in to take the ball just before the keeper got his hands to it but his shot went just wide.

The defence had a far far better game today and Guesty was covering brilliantly at times and putting in some very timely tackles, also Tony Kessel had a good 1st game for us and looked solid with good quick distribution of the ball.

With Jay currently suspended, Lew Watts soon to be suspended and Davie gone in my opinion i think we need to start looking for 2 or 3 new players as we are now getting down to the bare bones. I know Tony is looking about at the moment and is putting in 7 day approaches for players so fingers crossed some of them do come off as we really do need to get at least 1 more good forward in, a good attacking left winger and probably at least another defender or midfielder.

We have slipped 1 place at the moment and don't really want to start slipping any further, we've got to keep the pressure on the 2 teams above us because Dulwich seem to be hitting a very dodgy patch at the moment but Dover have turned things around and if we're not careful they WILL pull away from the rest of us. Plus the other teams below us are all picking up the points and are rapidly closing the gap on us, and as we've got some very hard games coming up in this next month or so this is the time when we really do have to knuckle down, work hard and pick up the points.

Another fantastic crowd today by the way of 1590, excellant.

I briefly spoke to Eddie McClements after the game today and the reason he wasn't playing was because he has got an infection in his leg from when he had that deep cut and few weeks ago.

He's currently on antibiotics and was all ready to play today but our physio Dave Phillips said no way was he to play with the infection so unfortunately Ed wasn't available. He's hoping to be able to train in the week and should be back again for the Sittingbourne game next week.

Sorry Matt for quoting you, but it's closer than Hunky Honkys(read Princes Pete's post ) and has the same gist.  I would imagine that the reason not to play Jimmy from the start and the reason that TB decided to play the 4-3-3 formation was because we were playing against a good side, who are also involved in a race for a play off slot.  They pass the ball around nicely and If we'd played with only Bruce and Briggs in the middle there was a danger that we'd be overun in the middle and lost like we did in the away game.  Add to the that the fact that we have our 4 or 5 most important games coming up and that we haven't kept a clean sheet for ages makes it almost worth a victory with the confidence the clean sheet would have given the back 5, as I said leading in to a very tough period!

So I can't fault Tony's team choice and think that people who are aren't looking at the bigger picture.  I did think that the sub was left a little late, but we were playing alright at the time and maybe Tony wanted to see if the current XI were going to fulfil their promise and put the ball in the back of the net.

As for Cass being the 1 player that looked like scoring, well, he didn't look like scoring when he was through on a 1 on 1!  Not that I'm saying he had a bad game, I thought he played very well and is on my shortlist for MOTM.

My good points from the game were the same as have already been mentioned by others and would like to add the support of the Cray fans to them.  Not particularly the noise they made, but it was nice to see an away team that were well supported in numbers, must have been close to 100 of them.

So who was the third player up front then, the invisible man?

Can't see how you came to the conclusion of 4-3-3 Matt as we didn't have 3 men up front for the whole game, it started off as almost 4-4-1-1 then part way through seemed to change then change again a bit later.

At the end of the day the result was there for the taking and we were certainly the most likely to score out of the 2 sides and probably should've have with some of the crosses Ryno put in and the odd other chance we had.

Im sorry but for me today the tactics seemed strange and so was the substitution, we was the home team but played more like the away side that was jast happy to get a draw.

the reason for the strange line up today was that we got well beat at cray on a day when we put in a crap performance

so when cray[ 9th in the league with 8 defeats ] visit us , we decide to play  a spoiling game , presumably to avoid another perceivd battering, rather than deploy a team to attack and give them the sort of stuffing that a team sitting proudly in 2nd place should be able to do

we MUST beliieve that we are good enough and i just wonder what a formation as follows would have done

kessel

osborne guest  watts norman

hayes briggs bruce  haffner

cass carter

Very flat game and atmosphere. Dartford need a strong central midfielder with presence and a footballing brain. At the moment the middle part of the field is getting bypassed. But at this level i dont think their is a great deal of difference between the majority of teams in this league. The salient factor is how much the players want success and if they are prepared to put in the extra mile that will count.

We do have one in Eddie McClements, it's  just unfortunate that he wasn't available today due to an infection in his leg.
