Dover away thread 24th Feb 07
« on: February 12, 2007, 07:32:33 PM »

For many of us this is one of the biggest games of the season so i thought i would start the match thread early. There is already team news from Dover, click the link;

http://www.dovorian.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3264

I urge those fans that normally only go to home games to make the effort and travel to white cliffs country and get behind the Darts, Maidstone outsung the Dover Jolly boys last Saturday, lets make a big effort to sing even louder!

We should be back to full strength for the 24th, game on, GAME ON!

Directions:
From outside of Kent, find your way to the M25, then take the M2/A2 (follow the signs for Canterbury, the signs for Dover will take you down the M20) as far as the Whitfield roundabout (near the Esso petrol station and McDonald's Drive-Thru). Take the fourth exit at this roundabout, down Whitfield Hill. At the bottom of the hill turn left at the roundabout and follow this road until the first set of traffic lights. At the lights turn right (180 degrees down the hill) and follow the road under the railway bridge, the ground is just up the road.

If you have to take the M20/A20 leave the A20 in Folkestone (the exit immediately after the tunnel through the hill) and travel through the Alkham Valley (turn left at the roundabout at the end of the slip-road and then left again, following the signs for Alkham) which will eventually take you near Kearsney train station (turn right into Lower Road just before the railway bridge, before you get to the station).

this should be a terrific day out and we definately want 100s to travel and support the darts which hopefully should be a notable win

i think WE should ALL make a great effort to cut out any stupidity on the web before the game and let our talking happen on the day

in the main,  the vast majority of the dover lads are loyal fans and up for some banter , maidstone guys enjoyed their visit last saturday and we want to do the same

UP THE DARTS

Clive Walker has taken back control as manager of Dover Athletic after having a major back operation only 2 weeks ago, he's still unable to walk properly without a stick at the moment as he's having to build up the strength back in his legs.

After Saturdays defeat to Maidstone Terry White has been released of his Caretaker Managers roll as Walker now feels fit enough to be able to manage the 1st team affairs.

i made it to the dover v maidstone game last week and i must say the maidstone away support was MASSIVE.
lets just hope we can get somewhere near that level of support at the crabble.

It will be interesting to see if we can match the 1500+ that were at the Crabble on Saturday for the Stones game.

Well said Duke.

It should be a huge attendance and hopefully a great day. May the best team win .... and may the losers accept it with grace and dignity.

Well lads and lasses its down to all of us to make sure we spread the word and take as many fans as possible down there to dispel this myth that we have a low away following.

xjeremy bring the whole council etc on a Dartford jolly boys day out.

xthink Why not arrange your firms beano for this day?

Lets make sure we feel like this  xbriggs

and not like this   xtommy

Big effort needed all, lets prove to the Doverthat we do have an away crowd.

Much though it pains me to say it, I can't see us taking down to Dover anywhere near the 500+ that Maidstone must have taken last week to boost the attendance to 1500+.  :-( But then, Maidstone is a lot nearer, while Dover is probably our longest away journey in the league.

Can I just ask, why is it that  xdover is the biggest game of the season, when geographically they're not our closes derby/rival team.

Is it purely that they also begin with a 'D' and are the second largest (on combined average!) supported team in the league?

Honestly, please fill me in...figuratively, not literally

It's basically because Dover have always been our biggest rivals and it's virtually always been a very hard fought close game between the 2 teams, it goes back years plus Dover have always been 1 of the so called better teams in the league with better quality players who've been aroubnd abit at a higher level.

As you say it's not to do with being geographical.

Maybe I am just an old git with a long memory, but I would consider both Gravesend and Maidstone to be greater rivals, historically, than Dover.
