Thought both teams struggled on a very bumpy pitch,Jay lead the line well today and earned a penalty,Eddie played well made all the running in midfield.Because the ground size the ball spent a lot of time being retrieved from the nearby golf course and this tended to break up play and the spoilt the rythem of the game, but apart from giving away our normal silly goal we never looked like losing this game and we deserved the three points lets hope we can carry on this winning run at Ashford on Tuesday.see you all on Tuesday.DARTFORD FOREVER.

Not many post-match comments yet. The Godalming hospitality sounds to have been good, so can I assume that lots of posters got home too late or in no fit state to post comments tonight?

strange day yesterday as to start with it cost us £2.50 to park trevB car [ thats a first ] as no room as godalmings ground, not whinging but thought it was amusing

the club bar was good and a warm welcome from the gods fans , the food stall  operated by the lady secretary , seconded on to the  hot dog stall due to the unusually large crowd , they knew we were coming !!, served up some great grub

i really do enjoy going to away games , just the sort of atmosphere non league is all about !!!

the match itself was spoilt for both teams due to the bumpy pitch and swirling wind with no real flowing , passing football but full credit we battled and were the best team and throroughly deser4ved our 3-1 win despite giving away our obligitary goal 10 mins from time , they just do it to keep us interested !!!!!

two of our goals [ 1st and last] were keeper error , he looked dodgy all the way through and we were quick to tell him and the other a class ryno penalty after jay was clearly felled

it was encouraging to see us battle al 90 mins on a day when it was obvious that greater desire and bottle would win it and fair dues ALL the lads got stuck in

MOTM [just shaded eddie mac] for me was bendan cass, who ran all day shutting defenders down and epitomosed that teams attitude

eddie went off injured after circa 70 mins , really hope he is ok  for ashford as he has been a revelation of the past 8 weeks replaced by carl bruce , ryno a bit later by haffie and finally 2 mins from the end james came on , i reckon on time on pitch james is on £48 grand a season [ only joking ,promise !!!]

so thats 6 out of 6 [ hunky please note  !!] , ashford and corinthians next 2 games , wanna bet it will be 12 out of 12 ?????????????

i hope godalming beat the drop cause they have done well to step up and deserve another crack !!!!!

Job done today and I should say job very well done, because with a ground that had  a slope across the pitch, uneven bumps, was rock hard and had a swirling wind there was never going to be a lot of football played, whether it be on the deck or in the air and would always be prone to errors being made.

We made very few errors except for their goal which came totally against the run of play and was due to a mistake/misunderstanding between Steve Norman and Tony Kessell and our failure to clear the ball when Godalming were only going through the motions and didn't look like scoring.

As has been said already the ball bounced very high during the game and if the ball went across towards the lower side of the pitch, due to the slope and a perimeter wall less than five feet high, the ball would go over and on to the neighbouring golf course followed by shouts of four from the crowd and yet another delay waiting for a new ball.

We started well and early on Ryno and Cassie both hit shots just putting the ball the wrong side of the post with their keeper not moving at all as he appeared slow and overweight.

It was his error that gave Greenie a goal when his cross swirled in the wind and carried towards the goal, with the keeper slow to react he just he got a hand to it but could only palm it down onto his head as he fell then post and into the net.

One nil at half time and totally in control we just had to make sure we carried on trying to retain possession take our time and take the chances when they came and this is what happened when Jay received the ball on the edge of the box got to the bye line and cut inside, only to be tackled poorly, but with the very minimum of contact he went down and we were awarded a penalty.(Thankyou ref.)
Once again Ryno stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way and placed the ball in the corner of the net.

Whilst mentioning Ryno I must say full marks for effort today as this was never his type of pitch for tricky runs but he still got in those telling crosses and created chances, but most important of all he was tracking back especially in the first half, to the halfway line and further back, tackling and winning the ball to help the defense out when necessary.

The error when they got a goal kept us on our toes until their keeper went on another of his bizarre runs only to end in failure as several before had threatened to do.

He persisted in trying to dribble the ball along the ground or play it short to a defender across the bobbly pitch and at no time did he look in control with footballing skills I would rate at zero and as our forwards kept closing him down it was an error waiting to happen and it did.

He dribbled the ball out of the area to his left when the big wellie was called for and as he was put under pressure from Cassie the attempted clearance was chested down and Cassie got in a cross come shot from close to the byeline towards the goal and there was Jay to tap in and make sure of the three points.

The only disappointment on the day was to see MOM candidate in most peoples eyes Eddie have to go off with an injury, but prior to this point he had been so strong on the ball and was the only man capable of going on numerous runs and controlling the ball on this bad pitch.

Therefore and to be fair and judge the MOM over 90 minutes I thought that Cassie had an excellent game and gets my vote for his constant non stop running and chasing down of the ball, but on the day Darts were the real winners, controlling the game on a difficult day out and finishing with 3 points.

Thanks to Godalming for their hospitality, a nice little club obviously struggling for support with a ground that really belongs in the lower leagues from whence they came, but who didn't give up and off the pitch were friendly helpful people with the secretary helping to serve food at half time as they tried to cope with a larger number of fans than usual.

And finally speaking of food, very good sausage and/or bacon served in french bread or burgers on offer with onions if required (lose one point for being raw not cooked although I eat them anyway) and a quick service to boot from mature ladies (read over 21) with a sense of humour politeness and courtesy, yes here it comes "Princes Park please note" it's what the average non league footie fan expects at a match.

3 points was ours for the taking and never really looked like not taking it. The pitch wasn't the best but not the worst either, needed someone to put a level on it though. Lots of slips and bobles made controlling the ball tricky but both sides just about pulled it off.

Thought we looked a bit flat at times, I presume just like last week ( not there) But to be totally honest , I really couldn't care less, as it was 3 points in the bag, and closer to securing a play-off when other teams dropped points. The boys never really played bad just seemed to start the cruising, but thankfully woke up when the gods pulled one back. MOM for me is Cass, just for the running and harassing, all other their half. He must be in training for the london marathon!

Totally agree with the hospitality, good food and a warm welcome.

The pitch yesterday was probably a quagmire 2-3 weeks ago, now the opposite, very uneven and dry! As previously stated as soon as the ball went off it left the stadium at regular intervals! It was a scrap for the points so glad we won them, 3 pts makes me very happy. The support was pretty good with the majority of the gate from North Kent, its difficult to generate a good atmosphere at Godalming with only one small scaffold shack but we did our best.

We may not return to Godalming for a while, good luck to them, a small friendly club in the Surrey countryside.

The lads really battled well on a very lumpy / bumpy pitch which at times made it very difficult to control the ball and with the pitch being rock solid the bounce seemed very hard to judge as well but out of the 2 teams we seemed to cope with it the better.

Everyone worked hard especially Eddie, Jay and Cassy with my MOTM vote going to Brendan who only just pipped Eddie, i think had Ed not picked up his injury and limped off then he would've got it but as Brendan lasted longer then he nicks it.

A good if not a bit lucky goal from Mark Green to lob the keeper for our 1st, then a penalty from Ryno after Jay got slightly caught and went down and then our 3rd from Jay after some excellant closing down from Cassy who won the ball from the keeper and layed it off for Jay to tap in.

Ryno worked hard yesterday and was up & down the pitch chasing back & forth up until he was subbed with a few minutes to go (well done Ryno).

Fingers crossed for another good game on Tuesday night at Ashford & hopefully the 3pts coming away with us as well, i've got a feeling that Tuesday won't be quite as easy though as our last 2 games.

Another very comfortable win and we are right back in amongst them. I thought Eddie McLements and Brendan Cass were the pick of the bunch, but it was a good all round performance from the whole team really. I know I wasn't enthused by Brendan's early Darts performances, but I have to say, I have become a big fan of late and his effort and commitment on Saturday were absolutely first rate. There was one incident in particular where he chased the goalkeeper down from about 25 yards away and won us a throw-in, that typifies the way he played. Absolutely fantastic Brendan ... nobody could ask for more. Eddie McLements was his usual brilliant self .... I think his inclusion on Tuesday is vital so I hope he makes it. I also think that Mark Green deserves a mention as he would seem to be about as good a replacement for Dave Martin as we could possible have hoped for. Of course, he hasn't got Davey's pace, but he is exacly the right type of player we needed and has restored balance to the team. It is no coincidence that we have turned in very good performances and are unbeaten in all of the 4 games that he has played in. Things are looking very good again.

As I see it, 5 wins from their remaining 9 games would probably be enough to see Maidstone finish as champions and realistically, I can't see any reason why this isn't going to happen. You have to take your hat off to them as they have put together an unbelievable run. Second place however, is still up for grabs and in my view there are 5 teams competing for the 4 play-off places ... Hastings, Tooting, Dulwich, Dover and of course, the Darts. I am extremely confident that we will take one of these places and haven't yet given up on the second place which would guarantee us two home games (assuming a victory in the first game) in the play-offs. We still have to go to Hastings and a win there could see us right up there alongside them. If I was a betting man, I would take Dover to miss out, as long as Dulwich are not too badly affected by the recent loss of their best player.

I thought we would probably need about 20 points from the last 10 games to get a play-off place. We have got of to a good start with 6 from the first two and the play-offs are looking good. If we want 2nd place though, that's probably going to require around 19-20 from the last 24 ... I think we are more than capable of achieving this so the run in is going to be very exciting.

As usual I have to agree with Spike, in our push for the championship  we need to take as many points from the remaining games as we can. The 2 wins this past week were really taken at a canter - allbeit the team played very well. The 2 crucial games I feel, will of course be Dulwich at home and Hastings away. If for no other reason, than these are likely to be 2 of the 3 play-off opponents in the unlikely event that we don't clinch automatic promotion :-D I think that 19-20 pts from a possible 24 is a realistic target, 24 from 24 would be fantastic, and I believe that the team we have and the way they are playing at the moment this is not an impossible task. That said there are no easy games at this time of the season as Maidstone found out last week against Croydon :-o :-D Given the nature of some of the results that have occured in this league thes past couple of months as they used to say in Stingray :? 'anything can happen in the next half hour'. So no counting chickens etc. just loads of support both home and away until the 'fat lady' has sung :-D

Games in hand and final run in

(Based on the fact all teams should have played 35 games at this point - Tough games = Play off chasing sides)

Maidstone - Chatham (H),  Ashford (A)  Tough games left Dulwich (A), Met Police (A)

Hastings - No games in hand  Tough games left Horsham (A), Dover (A), Dartford (H), Leatherhead (H)

Dulwich H - Fleet Town (H) Tough games left Maidstone(H), Dartford (A), Fleet (H), Horsham (H), Tooting (A) and they have lost their top scorer

Dartford - Ashford (A) Tough games left Dulwich (H), Maidstone (A), Met Police (A)

Dover - Cray (A) Tough games left Fleet (A), Hastings (H), Horsham (H)

Tooting - Leatherhead (H), Leatherhead (A), Corinthian-Casuals (A) Tough games left Fleet (H),  Dulwich (H)

Fleet - Horsham (H), Dulwich (A), Ashford (H) Tough games left Tooting (A), Dover (H)

Met Police - Godalming Town (H), Sittingbourne (A), Tough games left Maidstone (H), Dartford (H)

Horsham - Fleet (A), Ashford (H), Walton (H), Sittingbourne (A) Tough games left Hastings (H), Dover (A), Dulwich (A)

Leatherhead - Whyteleafe (A), Tooting & Mitcham United (A), Tooting & Mitcham United (H) Tough games left Hastings (A)

Lots of important midweek games and in many cases the top sides are playing each other. Compared to some of the others I quite like our run in but I wouldn't want to rely on getting 3 points at Met police to make the play offs.

Last day fixtures!

Ashford Town      v      Tooting & Mitcham United
Chatham Town      v      Molesey
Corinthian-Casuals      v      Leatherhead
Cray Wanderers      v      Dulwich Hamlet
Croydon Athletic      v      Whyteleafe
Dover Athletic      v      Horsham YMCA
Godalming Town      v      Hastings United
Kingstonian       v      Burgess Hill Town
Metropolitan Police      v      Dartford
Sittingbourne      v      Fleet Town
Walton Casuals      v      Maidstone United

Fancy all the top sides to win except Darts/Met police - draw and Dover/Horsham Draw

Mr Gaz
you state you still have to play the Stones away, surely the one thrashing was enough for you to stomach, another good win for our boys Saturday against a very resillient Horsham outfit, oh and the pitch has dried nicely so now we can bring back in our pacy skillful players, onwards and upwards.

Jay led the front line well. And Cassie played his best for a long time. But Eddie won it for me.
Three more points tomorrow at Ashford, not as easy as it sounds, but I'm confident.
keep whittling away at the clubs above us.
See you all tomorrow hopefully

MrGaz10

You haven't included either Horsham or Leatherhead amongst the teams you rated as tough games, but I reckon that these two teams are still very much in the mix, and will certainly cause a few problems to other playoff contenders. As it happens, we Darts have already played both games against both these teams, so no more slip ups possible for us as these fixtures finished just about honours even.

Thought they were on my list! The tough games listed are the ones still to be played not my judgement of teams who the darts have played already.

Tiger - Well spotted - you found my deliberate mistake. Just checking you were alert. Now modified!

A solid if unspectacular performance with the whole team giving 100% from front to back but bearing in mind that the pitch was dreadful and the weather was not the best , the Darts fully deserved the three points . Brendon and Jay really worked their socks off , pleased to see at least one of them get a goal for all their effort . Jay got my MOTM just ahead of Brendan.
Still too close to call i nregards to the play offs , one game at a time I suppose , starting with Ashford tonight . Do enjoy a midweek fixture and hopefully another three points for the boys. See as many of you as possible tonight.
