HASTINGS
« on: April 04, 2007, 06:07:44 PM »

DOES ANYONE NO HOW FAR THE WALK FROM HASTINGS STAION IS TO THE GROUND??
PLANNING OUR 1ST AWAY TRIP WITH THE DARTS WAS DEF GOING TO BE AGAINST THE MET POLICE BUT TRYING TO SWING A DAY OFF FOR THAT GAME 2

Directions:

From the north on the A21, head towards Hastings, going straight ahead at two mini roundabouts and turning left at the third onto the A2101 St Helens Road (The Pilot Field is signposted at this point). After a mile and a quarter, take the fifth turning on the left into St Helens Park Road, which leads into Downs Road. At the end of the road, turn left and the ground is immediately on your right.

From the east on the A259, turn right at the traffic lights immediately after B&Q onto Old London Road, which leads into The Ridge. Continue for one mile and turn left opposite the cemetery onto Elphinstone Road. The Pilot Field is the second pitch down the hill on the left,

From the west on the A259, turn left at the traffic lights onto the B2092 Harley Shute Road. Go straight over a mini roundabout and straight over the main roundabout (signposted Hollington) that follows, onto Ironlatch Avenue, which leads into Blackman Avenue. Follow this road through two sets of traffic lights, continuing straight ahead at the crossroads onto Ashbrook Road, which leads into Old Harrow Road. Turn right at the mini roundabout at the end of the road and turn left at the next roundabout onto the A2101 St Helens Road (The Pilot Field is signposted at this point). After a mile and a quarter, take the fifth turning on the left into St Helens Park Road, which leads into Downs Road. At the end of the road, turn left and the ground is immediately on your right.

Try the Hastings Utd FC website (obtainable from the menu elsewhere on this site) and click on the multimap location link. On the 1:25000 scale map (with a bit of jiggling of the N, S, E and W tabs maybe) you should be able to see a red circle where the ground is (some way out of town) and Hastings Station towards the bottom (left of centre) (BEWARE: I think the main station is Warrior Square, which is a bit further west). The distance there looks just a tad over 1 mile as the crow flies - but probably at least 1-and-a-half in "real" space - and all uphill winding roads (South Downs). I'm not sure what route the train takes: it looks from my road map as if it comes south to St Leonards and then east along the coast to Warrior Square, another station in Hastings and then on inland to Rye. IF the train stops there, the next stop after Hastings, ORE STATION, actually looks nearer to the ground. Good luck! xtip

I think a lot of people have earmarked Hastings as a potential first away game ..better weather, seaside town, nice ground...and a clash between two old Southern League heavyweights contending for a play off spot.....all the ingredients are there.

ORE station is on the line from Ashford to Hastings, so you'll have to go to Hastings and change trains there. (The trip from the Ashford end would be all stations and much slower).
From Dartford: train to London Bridge, then train to Hastings, then train to Ore. According to Network Rail site fare is £23.70 (Cheap Day), Journey Time is 2h40m.
times - London Bridge 12:23 arrive Hastings 13:57
          Hastings          14:13 arrive Ore       14:16
or similar times 1 hour earlier (if you want more socialising time :-))
So no tight for time connections.

A couple of other thoughts -
1st - with the wait at Hastings for Ore train it might be a better bet to get a bus from Hastings station route 28 looks a likely one though best check at station.

2nd - Streetmap has a clearer map of the area (Ground is at top of page - stations nearer the bottom 500m squares) so you can make your own judgement as to distances.

Terry you'd be far better going by the DFC coach if you are able to from Princes Park, it only costs £10 and will take you straight to the ground. There will actually be 2 coaches running that day 1 which is the Official club coach taking players, management, officials & some supporters etc and there is also another supporters coach being run by Graham Falvey which also costs £10.

As i say if you are able to get to Princes Park then you'd be far better to go by coach as it's a lot less travelling time & not as much messing about plus it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the train.

You can contact Scott McKinnon on 07895 258313 for the official coach or
Graham Falvey on 07786545315 for the supporters coach.

'd say it's just under a 1 mile walk from Ore station and close to 2 miles from Hastings station.  I've used both stations to get there in the past.  The route from either station is not particluarly straightforward and as has already been mentioned, Hastings is a seriously hilly town!  I'd advise anyone travelling by train to print off a map of the town.  The ground's postcode is TN34 2AX; if you go to streetmap.co.uk or multimap.com and enter that post code into the search engine it'll give you a map with the ground arrowed or circled.  I've never used buses between the station and the ground but as I recall they don't seem to be very frequent.

Hi, should be a cracking game next Saturday, looking forward to it.

If travelling by train go to the main Hastings station, not Warrior Square or Ore then you can bus it using the number 21A which leaves from Stop A. Its 15 minutes by bus from the station to the Elphinstone Rd Hoads Wood Rd stop. The ground is about 100 metres up the hill from the bus stop. Buses leave the station at 14 and 44 minutes past the hour. Alternatively take a taxi from the taxi rank outside the station.

Sounds a good bet to take the coach though at only a tenner!

Anyone driving please note that parking is on the streets around the ground only. Make sure you do not park illegally and that includes having tyres on verges as the traffic wardens will leave a ticket for you!
