Crayford Arms - preseason friendly
« on: June 15, 2007, 09:43:16 AM »

It has been suggested that a friendly pool and darts match be arranged between supporters of Dartford FC and the Crayford Arms. As many of you will be aware the Crayford Arms is now run by John Stewart (Scratchcard John) so we would be helping out a fellow long suffering Darts supporter.

We would be hoping to have a home and away fixture, probably at the end of July / start of August on a Wednesday night.

This is intended as a social event rather than a fundraising event (although we will probably run a raffle on the night).

Would anyone interested please let me know – we are probably looking for between 6 to 8 pool and / or darts players.

To register your interest, please post in this thread or send me an email: rondale@sladegreen50.fsnet.co.uk

Unfortunately I will be on holiday as from 2nd August until the 18th otherwise I would have come to support Mr Stewart and boost his funds, never mind the darts and pool.

I used to play darts for the Bull & George & The Tradesman's in the courage league and have never really mastered pool, always trying to snooker players but hopeless at potting, too old now and the nerves are shot after too much time spent watching The Darts.

And before Coney say's it yes the brain will still allow me to count and remember the rules of darts and pool it's just the eye sight that's fading.

Count me in for the pool unlike Trevor B I never mastered the art of Darts. I think people were a bit wary of letting me loose with sharp objects!!!!!!!!!

Paul, the way you jink around those people in the bar in your haste to get a pint ordered makes me think you could teach our forwards a thing or two, plus how does almost everyone in John's pub know you

I'd love to play both, but unfortunately, I'm equally hopeless. If no-one else steps up, I'll take part but it's as a permanent reserve :D

If I can find my darts, which are stashed away in the loft then I'll be available for selection.

As long as it don't clash with a week long break to the new forest I would happy to add ny name to the pool team and be a (mediocre at best ) reserve for the darts.

Constructive criticism?? Don't get it. If it's still criticism, how is it constructive?

Unfortunately due to a limited response it looks like we might have to forego the darts and just have a pool friendly - hopefully on a Wednesday night as that's always a quiet night at PP.

I'm meeting John on Thursday to see what he's been able to arrange and I'll post further details after that.

As a side thought if people are keen on playing pool on a regular basis, then maybe we can get a PP team to join a local League. What do others think?

The arrangements for the pool friendly against a team from the Crayford Arms are as follows:

Wednesday 4 July at Princes Park

Wednesday 11 July at the Crayford Arms

The idea is to have six people in each team and play six singles matches and three pairs matches. Those taking part should arrive at the venue by 8pm for an 8.30pm start.

If we can get enough people interested we might be able to arrange some games with some of the other local pubs.
