That's the problem with being a keeper. If you make a mistake there's no-one to bale you out and your mistakes are highlighted. If an outfield player cocks up at least there are people behind you to cover your mistakes.
I don't want to sound all gushy and crawl arseing here just because I spent a few weeks in May & June working with both Tony Kessel & James Tedder. But we are lucky to have in these guys, 2 very talented and very hardworking keepers who were in training for the new season back in May some 6-7 weeks before the rest of the squad officially started.
They are two different types of keeper. Tony is not much taller than me, but he's speed and aggression in the area more than compensate, and I still maintain that his distribution is top class. James is a much taller guy who I will concede dominates the area more due to his height and did well in pre-season and will get better and better and i wouldn't be suprised to see him make more 1st team appearances this season. Personally I don't think there is much to choose between them. But as far as I am concerned they are better than most keepers that we will see this season.
Keepers by nature will make mistakes, it happens. The problem with Saturday is that it came well into injury time that shouldn't have been played and left us with no time to reply and that's what hurt the most. Martin C was spot on in that Kess did make 3 or 4 crucial saves prior to that. Also you could argue that the defence could have done more to clear the ball, but to finish 2-2 after we'd played for 25 minutes with 10 men after OB lost the plot & got sent off will do me. It's a long season, try & remember that.
