That's the problem with being a keeper. If you make a mistake there's no-one to bale you out and your mistakes are highlighted. If an outfield player cocks up at least there are people behind you to cover your mistakes.

I don't want to sound all gushy and crawl arseing here just because I spent a few weeks in May & June working with both Tony Kessel & James Tedder. But we are lucky to have in these guys, 2 very talented and very hardworking keepers who were in training for the new season back in May some 6-7 weeks before the rest of the squad officially started.

They are two different types of keeper. Tony is not much taller than me, but he's speed and aggression in the area more than compensate, and I still maintain that his distribution is top class. James is a much taller guy who I will concede dominates the area more due to his height and did well in pre-season and will get better and better and i wouldn't be suprised to see him make more 1st team appearances this season. Personally I don't think there is much to choose between them. But as far as I am concerned they are better than most keepers that we will see this season.

Keepers by nature will make mistakes, it happens. The problem with Saturday is that it came well into injury time that shouldn't have been played and left us with no time to reply and that's what hurt the most. Martin C was spot on in that Kess did make 3 or 4 crucial saves prior to that. Also you could argue that the defence could have done more to clear the ball, but to finish 2-2 after we'd played for 25 minutes with 10 men after OB lost the plot & got sent off will do me. It's a long season, try & remember that.

Don't you think that watching O'Brien play on Saturday, was a bit like watching Wattsy. A bit cart-horsish, with no bite. And Ronaldo, if we do get promoted it'll mean we will have to get some good players. Like 10 more Coyles.

I personally thought that was O'Briens best performance so far for us since the Spur's game where I thought he looked lost. Although you have to admit that we'd only had a couple of training sessions at that point.

I thought on saturday he was full of running and made some good decisive tackles. What let him down was his disciplin which as Capatain could be a problem. Hope TB sorts this out ASAP.

I fully agree Custard. I thought OB gave his best display for us by a long chalk until his dismissal. I don;t know if you've read his "Skippers notes" on the official site, but both he and Tony seem think he was hard done by. I hope he learns from this and walks away in future.

Hadn't read his notes and therefore stand corrected. From where I was standing (behind their goal) my view was obviously different to TB's and OB's for that matter. As to the sending off I agree the other player should have walked as well. But as we've seen over the last 48 Hrs Refs don't always see what we see, do they? (wink)

Still remarkably similar to me, as far as midfield was concerned, that 37-year-old of theirs won it hands down.

dont fall into the trap that a player is no good if he isnt doing magical things and always in the spotlight

OB is often not noticed for all the good work he does in a quiet efficien tway and he played really well at wiivenhoe tonight and didnt get involved in any aggro which is a credit as wivenhoe were certainly dishing it out

the whole darts team showed bags of bottle [ and class] tonight and fully deserved the 3 points and a pat on the back from tony , this is the kind of gutsy performance away from home that is needed
