AVELEY - Home - Match thread
« on: August 26, 2007, 02:48:13 PM »

I'm surprised it's been left to me to start this thread for the Aveley match which is only 24 hours away from kick off.

Well 0-4 or no 0-4, just before the Ware match started, I booked my National Express coach tickets to depart Birkenhead at 6:25 in the morning to come and our see our Darts earlier in the season than waiting until the Sudbury match in September, and returning home tomorrow evening from Victoria Coach Station at 11-30pm.

It'll be a long day for me, and I'll be wearing my newly acquired PureDFCweb Polo shirt in the bar before and after the match.

I'm sure Tony will be telling the boys they need to be putting on a better performance, especially when the Bishop of Tranmere is travelling down for the game - as well as all the other supporters as well. Pride will surely create a backlash to give us the result we need.

Disappointed by yesterday's result? - to be sure I am - because I wasn't expecting a 4-0 drubbing.

Will we bounce back tomorrow? I'm sure we will. I just hope the drubbing doesn't stop too many of the newer fans turning up to the game.

See you all tomorrow

no point in looking back now but mondays game is now very important for the club and the new [floating ] fans

if we play well and win then everyone will breathe a sigh of relief and believe that saturday was just a bad day at the office

if we lose or play rubbish again then i dread to think what the reaction will be, the diehards ,   300 [ including me ]  plus the new genuine fans will stick with it but i fear many more will not   !!!!!!!!!!

i know its only 3 games but there is a great deal of bewiderment amongst fans as to  our inability to bring in additional class players that after last season was obvious we would need to gain promotion , not counting the loanees as they are only a short term stop gap

i am not being negative and like many others will continue to vocally support the team through thick and thin  but i just dont understand what is going on   !!!!!!!!!!

Well as usual when at home it really does have to be 3 points.

Suggest the riot act is read (if not already) out to the players that results like Saturday are not acceptable.

Play with pride for our club at all times always giving 100%!

The management also must get it right, the tactics and balance of the side must be spot on from now on.

Back at last and ready to add my vocals to the chorus.  Disappointed that there are only four points on the board, but plenty more to play for.  Hope to arrive early for a beer or two.  Hoping that we add three points and return our goal difference to a positive number.

Come on you DARTS!

I would prefer, rather than the over-use of the over-used word, the players are gently reminded of what they are good at, that they are players with ability and they can make a challenge this year.

I want to see a team with patience, a team that will slowly stamp its authority on the game. To forget the past and look to the future. The F word motivates nobody in my experience.

It's amazing what 270 minutes of football can do. From looking forward to the new season and good gates, to Doom and gloom and wondering about what gate were going to get next.
I'm sure if TB was disappointed with Saturdays performance ( and from all accounts, he should be ) we are going to see an improved one today. If not, then we can start worrying. I'm sure a win today will have us all singing the teams praises. But it's not a win we need, it's for the team to start playing at what level we expect them to play at. All those pre-season promises will all be hot-air, if we can't beat teams at home, let alone away.
I expect the crowd today to be well short of 1,000 as it's the last Bank Holiday of the year. People are not going to go watch a team thats had a stuttering start. As I've said too many times prior to the new season, we had to come out of the traps flying from the start, but at the moment it seems we have our tails stuck in the trap.
270 minutes, come on, get real. Lets see what it's like after 15 games before we start moaning. Get behind them.

Looking forward to the game (always do!) where the hardcore will be firmly behind the Darts as usual, suffice to say if you lose 4-0 away and not play well in the final 2 thirds of the game, well expect some 'moaning', those who travelled spent good money following the Darts and will say it as they see it.

Lets see what it's like after 15 games before we start moaning.

15 games is way too long to wait before making judgments, you will get a good idea of how things will be after half that.

if "people" are fickle enough to turn their backs after a draw-win-lose start to the season then so be it......they were never the type to be in it for the long term anyway.....I would hope we can top 1000 for todays game and prove that our support has a bit more staying power..although as Ozy says it is the last Bank Holiday..we,ll see.

I believe that with season tickets, junior darts and patrons etc we are near to 400 ticket holders. Add that to non ticket regulars and i think are minimum support is probably greater than we have had for quite some time.

Lets hope for a good crowd today, my estimate is 1148.
