Agree Duke, I would rather see the ref take his time and get it right than make a snap decision.

To the FA this would be a good game to learn and not really be considered getting chucked in at the deep end though!
The Final would be that.

To a Kent association ref this is a big game, not the FA.

Look at the highlights, you can just see Flanagan slid in with the studs down the front of the knee before the video cuts away!
Couldn't see it clearly from behind the goal but this looks like Flanagan deserved a retort, just not a punch.
To be honest though the ref needed to have a few words before this with quite a few players, which maybe would have stopped it.

Constructive criticism?? Don't get it. If it's still criticism, how is it constructive?

Having watched the video, and seen a number of other opinions, it really does demonstrate how tough a referees job is. I was no more than 20 yards from the (front of the) incident with an uninterrupted view, and I was convinced at the time that there was no foul.

Of course, none of this justifies the punch thrown, but there might have been a foul after all, even though the referee and his two assistants (nor I) saw it.

Perhaps supporters are too quick to chant "You don't know what you're doing" sometimes.  There's hundreds of us and we can't agree.  There's only one ref and two assistants (I still prefer "linesmen").

Some referees probably are poor and deserve what they get, but none of them go out deliberately to make bad or wrong decisions - do they?.  To err is human.

It's a thankless job, but without referree's, there is no game.

i agree totally and the ref is on a total no winner

i have no problem with him making a genuine mistake but 2 things that  upsets me is when they stand close to a really violent act or a pretty obvious penalty/foul and bottle it and when they do NOT allow for advantage and drag the ball back 20/30 yards to the total advatage of the offending team

i like strong refs [ even f they do make mistakes - christ dont we all ??] and that includes actions aginst our guys but i hate bottlers !!!!!!!

I have just watched it and I have to agree that whilst it is not 100% conclusive, I have to admit it looks pretty bad. You can't quite see where the ball is but if you freeze frame you can see the lunging challenge make contact with the other guy's leg. It's baffling how so many of us could have been so close and yet seen it so differently at the time. I suppose the best defense you could put up for Flanners was that it was a genuine (but overly aggressive) atempt for the ball hence only a yellow card, but since they restarted with a throw-in it doesn't really make any sense. I do admit though, that on the evidence of that video it looks like my perception of what happened was wrong and whilst its never acceptable to get up and start throwing punches, at least now I can understand why the guy was so upset. I guess this is not too dissimilar to the O'Brian incident a few weeks ago and just proves that maintaining your discipline is so vital if you want to stay on the pitch.

I have just watched the video having not been at the game, and was impressed with the passing and movement of our team before and after the sending off.

Cass and May looked a great double act and the passing game can only help Cass.

Regards the Flanagan incident, well done Flanners, hard but fair, we have a superb centre half there, just what we need, a tough uncomprimising player who will be a legend at Dartford if he maintains that sort of play. Sometimes it is possible to go in hard, win the ball and then have a player who don't like it, out comes the dummy, don't you know who i am syndrome and bang have that cry baby, your off!

Think that the ref will go far in time, just needs some common sense, like most refs.

i agree we have for too long been a too timid side and as a result got pushed about

flanners is a great example of being hard but fair and sets a great example , our new captain hopefully has learnt something by this

i like sides that can play but it is also necessary to have a [ legal] nasty streak and we have now got it

Just watched the video. All it proves is that Flanaghan and the Leatherhead no.9 both slid in for the ball at the same time and I already knew that.

The video to be fair proves nothing, as for my own eyes, hard but fair, no free kick, a throw in awarded and pure panto from Sheerin!

Watched the video over and over and still inconclusive, yes Flanners is slding in but the film stops before contact is made.

All i can remember is my initial reaction which was:-

1. no foul by Flanners
2. no appeals from anybody from Leatherhead
3. No. 9 threw a punch
4. If he had just got up and walked away i don't believe anyone would have got booked
