Northwood- Away- This Saturday
« on: September 04, 2007, 11:34:58 AM »

I hope this is the next game otherwise this thread is carp ,or something like that

I know Tony likes to have the opposition watched but just incase he hasnt i saw Northwwod in their second match which they drew 1-1 with Waltham Forest.
They played 4-4-2 and liked the punt upfield. They were a fairly young inexperienced team and did not have much to offer other than heart and being physical. In the seconf half WF had to get back in the game and did it by also showing a lot of aggression and to be honest Northwood could not live with them and were lucky to get their point.
The players on the day at the back in the centre half positions i thought were particularly young and i hope that Jay can have a field day against them.Their keeper also looked a flapper.

I will be in Cyprus helping my dad  water his olive and fig trees until 21st september so good luck and i hope to come back to plenty of goals scored and none conceeded

They had a good result in the cup last Saturday as they beat Uxbridge who are top of their league 1-0 . If the boys perform like they did in the second half of the Leatherhead game plus the loanees will be back and making possibly their last outing for us then we should have enough but our defeat to Ware has hopefully taught us a lesson. I for one will be there and nice an early so I can watch a bit of egg chasing between New Zealand and Italy at 1245 before our game.

Really looking forward to this one.  The nearest game to my home, so just a 110 mile round trip and no M25.

I wouldn't mind seeing the same team as last Saturday with a similar performance and result.

I think Alex Martin has already returned to Bishops Stortford? Could be right for Matt Bodkin though, who has looked better in each game for us. Perhaps we might be extending his loan to cover Ryno's absence?

Once again a matter of opinions but i thought Matt Bodkin had an absolute shocker against Ware, his  body language was that of a man who was already on his way  back to Grays.Probably the worst player in that game and believe me that was some achievement.

Talk about the kiss of death, from Rambo. Sounds like we've won this hands down. I don't think. But then if we can keep up the recent form. Who knows?

ozy i understand what you say about kiss of death etc but i dont believe kiss of death, fate, god or anything that i cant see ,hear or feel.i believe you should only react to what you see or know.i am aware that quality of teams at this level can quickly change with a little bit of cash but if anyone saw what i saw they would expect 3 points from the game against northwood.but of course the points just dont turn up,you have to treat the opposition with respect and work your nuts off

Well, I've come home tonight from the Tranmere v Morecambe Johnson Paints Cup, withTranmere having been beaten 0-1.

Surprise! Well Morecambe have already beaten Championship sides away at Preston and Wolves in the Carling Cup, and played very well tonight too, and deserved their victory.

Point is, our manager was saying before the game, we will give them respect, but we showed too much respect and sat back thinking it would just happen for us, but it didn't, and it wasn't until 20 minutes from the end and after we had conceded the goal that we really started playing - but too late!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So just because Northwood are at the bottom end of the table, doesn't mean things will be easy, and the Darts are going to have to battle hard in every game if we are to put points on the board at every opportunity. Hopefully, we have learnt our lesson against Ware, and that result is now behind us. But nothing comes easy in this game.

Good luck Saturday, and I hope loads of you get to make the journey on Saturday for a good day out.

....we showed too much respect and sat back thinking it would just happen for us....

Sounds like a bit of a contradiction there Pete, but I think I know what you mean!

I think the key for us is not to worry too much about how our oppoentents are playing, but concentrate on playing like we play best. Pass the ball around, keep possesion, be patient, wait for the opportunities. That's what impressed me so much against Leatherhead.

We now have greater quality in the team to do this and we should have more faith in ourselves to beat sides using these tactics, and not resort to hoofing long balls up for Jay to chase. I also feel it's no co-incidence that Brendan is more effective too, when we play the passing game. With good passers like Jamie, Eddie and Flanners in the side, they will always create chances for the strikers.

Hunky. I agree!! That why the games don't attract crowds. Even Notts Forest got beat at home by Peterboro in front of only 3102 instead of their usual 20000+. Mind you, the final is at Wembley, but I don't think winning the competition actually gives qualification for the Champions League next season.   /smug /smug

You are of course, quite right DaveT. The manager said we must treat Morecambe with respect. Of course, it was the players who didn't give them that respect, and suffered the consequences. xshrug

That's why we have to always try for 110%, even, and especially, against the lower teams in our games, continuing with Northwood.

I agree he was poor against Ware but then so was everyone (with the possible exception of Mark Green) else! I think Bodkin has looked excellent in every other match he's played for us so I think you are being a little bit harsh. I hope he plays Saturday and proves that Ware was just a bad day at the office.

That's fine until we come up against someone who's giving 111%
