Potters Bar Town 27 October
« on: October 24, 2007, 02:27:35 PM »

Time to put recent events behind us and look forward to Saturday's visit of PBT.  We're one of the form teams in the league at the moment so three points needed to keep our challenge going.  I'd like to see us in the top three by Christmas!

Jay will be back in the frame and provide more options up front (but not too many high balls lumped up the field, please).

The wife's having her hair done, so I'll be on my own - and free to misbehave as much as I want.  Bliss.

See you Saturday.

Yeh, back to playing a team at our level, 3 points a must.

There is absolutely no reason for being negative at this stage, we are now settling in to this league and we need to impose our game on our opponents especially at home.

The top of the league is a 6 game consistant run away, I believe that the squad is more than good enough to achieve this. The recent games against Bromley and Hornchurch has been a good experience for the club, it shows what is required.

As for crowds there were quite a few reasons why Tuesday was lower, expect a bigger one Saturday.

My son Chris is out of hospital now, but still not fit enough to get out and about - especially in the current cold weather - but I will definitely be there on Saturday - public transport permitting - after missing the last couple of games.

i havnt seen potters bar play yet this season so i cant say anything about them but i just looked on their site and clearly they have a few ex waltham forest players who made such an impression on my that i can only remember their names but not how good or bad they were.as i cant remember what they did i suspect they were players of the not good variety so i am expecting nothing other than a good win for the mighty darts
my cousins off to cyprus for two weeks so i am threatening my neighbour and his son that they will have to join me on saturday.

I'm sure the cup experiences the players have had, playing the four games against teams two divisions higher than us, and us not being disgraced at all, will stand to benefit the team as we now turn our attentions to the league. The cup runs have given the players more games in which to gel, and with the return of Junior and Ryan, both these have had more opportunities to build up their match fitness.

These games have given the players the opportunities to raise their own performances, and together with the grit and determination shown in our away match at Ilford, I'm sure it will give the players the impetus to keep the league run going, as they showed us against Great Wakering. The cup run also means Jay May has completed his suspension missing only one league game. With almost everybody fit, (poor Tommy!), then even the subs bench should be looking strong. Hope the OB situation is resolved.

Bring on Potters Bar Town, and with Tranmere playing at home on Friday night, I will be logging in for updates on Saturday afternoon.

Pete I am a great believer in playing against the better teams raises your own level a little bit.

As they say practice like you play and you will play like you practice.

The last couple of games should have us used to a faster and higher demanding level of football.

Constructive criticism?? Don't get it. If it's still criticism, how is it constructive?

Looking forward to getting back to normal aiming for three points we now to start putting in a run of wins together to build up the big M.

Having changed the system for the cup games we now need to get back to what we are good at. Winning the ball getting it wide and putting the ball in the box for Jay and Cass. Sounds simple!

Still think we rely to much on the long pass up to Jay, we do not play good Football but we play "winning" Football at this level and that it what matters.

Expect the team for Saturday to be;

Kess - (Watch out for corners!)

                                                Coyle Guest Flanns Norms

                                               Ryno OB kadi Greenie

                                                      Cass May

Subs Avery - Potts - Yoyo - Tedder - Bradders.

Hope OB can resolve his "issues" with the lads as i think he has proved after a dodgy start that he can be effective at this level winning the ball and playing the simple pass - thought he was one of our better players on Tues.

The next group of games 6-8 are all can win games that will take us up to Christmas in good form. Lets get behind the lads on Sat they need our backing.

Hoping the crowd will pick up a bit as mentioned preiously the main way to get bums on seats is Winning Football and being in contention.

We could be more visible in the local free press, running comps for free family tickets, or a DFC shirt, fleece, t-shirt etc vouchers for reduced admission on Tues night games for supporters who have been on the Saturday  - £15 is better than £9 - if you get my drift. Season ticket holders given a free - be to give to a mate.  6 - 12 game season tickets, half season tickets for sale. Free tickets to local clubs teams and local schools etc. Or even ! for one game (PP 1st year birthday party) drop admission charges to reignite the interest in the town  - "FREE FOOTBALL" if marketed in the right way could get close to the attendance last year - put some spin on the idea as a thankyou to the town etc

I know it seems a bit far fetched but we need as a club to be active and not just accept falling attendances. We have a good product lets promote it.

With the one year birthday on the horizon has the club any plans to use this as a vechile to gain maximum publicity.

I expect Tony to perhaps bring in Guest for Avery and if Greenie doesn't start then Jay will be in, however my preference would be to let Greenie stay and drop Ryno instead who is not just appearing to be off the pace and lacking touch due to match fitness still not being 100%, but he seems to be looking for tackles coming in from the opposition before he even gets the ball hence alot of flicks and touches to get rid of the ball quickly that are not always working rather than hold ing the ball  and attempting to get past defenders, so perhaps he's lacking confidence as well, hopefully he is back to his best soon, but give the hard working Greenie a chance as an alternative.

At this stage surely Ryan needs MORE games to get his MATCH fitness?
