It was good to come to PP on Saturday with the Darts top of the division albeit on goal difference. It was even better going back in to the bar after the game, still on top, and three points ahead.
I must admit, I thought we were going to be in for a tougher game than it turned out to be, as beforehand, I would have been happy for a 1-0 win although I didn't think Enfield played that badly at all. Perhaps it was more a case of payback time and it just seemed that every chance we created in the opening stages were converted in to goals, which hadn't been happening in recent games (excepting Witham of course!). Let's hope for a few more goals at Brentwood on Saturday.
Coming out of the bar just before the game, I looked around and thought it wasn't going to be a particularly big crowd. Of course, I had forgotten we had more in the bar still to come out, than most of the clubs have coming through their gate. During the game, yes, it looked a 1000 crowd, and after those goals, I hope we can look forward to a few more of the same.
What pleased me was to see the six goals coming from five players, rather than just relying on Cassie and Jay. It great to see the goals coming from all areas of the park.
I also saw Ryno have the best game I have seen him play since the transfer of Davie Martin. Hopefully, his fitness and confidence is returning big time, and that spectacular goal was the icing on the cake. So this week Ryno has got my Man of the Match vote, although it must be said, it was still a tough call, with strong performances throughout the side, even though we took our foot off the pedal in the last 15 minutes or so in which we were punished defensively.
It looks as though I've lost my London Pride, but I was still looking forward to having some Speckled Hen. But with the barrels empty, it had to be a Worthy instead as I wasn't offered even a bottle of Speckled prior to the match, although I saw bottles being given out after the match. Can't understand how we can run out of the beer barrels s on a match day and can understand the disappointment of fans, including those from Enfield, being asked for £2.69 a small bottle of Speckled which was nowhere near a pint's worth. The meeting up and camaraderie in the bar prior to the match is a very important part of my ritual when I travel down from Merseyside!! Good to see you all again. Not sure yet when my next trip down will be
Excellent voice from the choir throughout the match, matching the player's efforts on the pitch.
My thanks to Mick Howe who spotted me in the crowd when walking round the ground and stopping off to inform me Tranmere were 1-0 up at Bradford in the FA Cup. A happy ending to the day as Rovers won 3-0 in the end. Perhaps this is a turning point in the season, as previously, it has been most unusual for both my teams to win at the same time. Now, they have, I'm looking forward to both teams winning each Saturday frrom now on as they try to haul in the points and push onwards.
Good to catch up with the all the regulars once again. That was my 5th match of the season. Maybe I can make it another worthwhile trip with a double header for the Arlesey and Northwood games on the 26 Jan and 2 Feb.
Well played Darts, on and off the pitch. We just need to keep it up now. COYD.
