I had a quick look at the report of our game in the Non League paper today and had to laugh when they rated our good friend Jake Whincup the STAR MAN  xshrug of the game and gave it a 4 out of 5 star rating.

So I wasn't the only one to do a double-take at Whincup as MOTM and 4 stars out of 5 for the match. All right, the GK had a good few shots to save, but most of them were fairly routine (and none as good as Kess's flying tip round and over in the first half), and I thought the star rating would be no more than 2/5.

BTW: Did anybody else notice from the NLP that none of Blue Square South matches and only 2 of the BS North matches had bigger gates than ours? DFC rule OK!

Well, that was a crap game wasn't it??!!
 :-D

As earlier contributors noted, we'd probably have drawn - or even lost - that in October / November. It's a measure of the side's improvement that Arlesey never looked like scoring even at that traditionally precarious 1-0 lead!

We are blessed to be so deadly at set pieces as well as with our overall wing-play. The whip Ryno gets on those corners are almost un-defendable. Great stuff.

Flanners gets MOTM for me for the goal and for gobbling everything up that came his way. O'B a not too distant second. Another clean sheet too. Many positives therefore to pull out of that tedious 90 minutes.

Wasnt great but a wins a win! The opposition  came to spoil and Darts were never in trouble despite a slow opening to the match.

Eddie & OB sowed up the middle of the park and defence were rarely troubled. Bit surprised that Yo Lew didnt replace Phil but Kadi getting some minutes under his belt

Not a lot more to report...If all teams come to PP with that attidtude then that will play into our hands as 1 goal should be enough to secure 3 points and with Cass,May,Eddie,Phil,Ryno,Flan,Coyle etc then we are good enough to get that goal!

Up the darts!

Okay, so it wasn't the usual thrill a minute goal-fest that we have been seeing on a regular basis recently, but personally I thought the game was enjoyable for different reasons. i.e. It was a tough game to win as Arlesey kept it very tight and made it difficult for us, but as usual, our lads kept cool heads and played a very safe, competent game that resulted in the vital 3 points and a fourth consecutive clean sheet. You can't expect a cricket score every week and this was the sort of game that we have ended up throwing away in the past with some sort of stupid defensive error. This back five of Kessell, Coyle, Flanagan, Guest and Norman really has made the difference.

I thought Kess was worth a mention with such a strong team sometimes he has little to do but when he does he always seems alert and ready, it keeps the heart rate steady especially in these 1-0 games.   xbow

From Mike BS's report:

At times it was goalkeeper Jake Whincup against the world and a series of daring saves saved a rout.

I must admit I missed this bit but obviously the non-league paper and Mike BS agree. I tend to agree with myself most of the time too.

I enjoy Mr BS's prose but sometimes I think I watch a different game - all good for publicity though...

I agree with spike on this, and probably in a way the report in the NLP. It wasn't a goal fest, we are getting spoilt for 5 or 6 goals at home. But the Darts quality to overcome a stubborn side who came to spoil was there to see, and we did entertain. Something we weren't doing this time last year, which cost us.
As far as Jake being man of the match, well he did make a good save when Phil was through. But that was because the front line were off colour against a team that came to defend.
Typically, we now have defenders who can score as well. Which on Saturday we needed.

Unless im mistaken then we're already on 91 goals for the season in all competitions which is superb and we should easily break the 100 goals for the season barrier which is an amazing achievement.

Something which i don't think has been done since the mid 80's under Peter Taylor. Im sure some of you stato's out there will come up with something different & prove me wrong  :-D (not for the first time ).

On current form, we could do it by Saturday night.
