Apart from the first three games, when I think we had it tactically wrong, we have looked pretty good going forward and are scoring a fair few goals. In my opinion, our problems have been ...

1. Lack of discipline (unnecessary Red & Yellow cards).
2. Sloppy defending, too many individual errors.
3. (a) Giving away far too many free kicks, particularly around the edge of the box.
    (b) Conceding goals from free kicks, particularly those around the edge of the box.
4. One or two of our players are carrying extra weight and are not as fit as they could be. (We are up against quality opponents now and we need to maximise EVERY possible advantage from what we have available).

In many respects, Saturday's game was a walk in the park. Darts totally dominated from start to finish, had shed loads of chances and should have ran out 3-0 winners. However, a combination of the above problems saw us struggle to get the win that 99% of our play deserved.

For that reason, Despite an otherwise good game, I couldn't possibly give Ryno the MOTM award when his lack of concentration and subsequent clumsy foul ended up costing us another goal. Luckily, on this occasion it didn't hurt us in the end. I'm fed up keep reading on here about the "great games" people have had, when they have made errors that have cost us goals .... (Tommy Osbourne who was skinned for one of the Staines goals, being a recent example).

It may seem harsh, but we are now competing in a division where our players are matched and often bettered by our opponents. We are not in a position to be able to liberally give away stupid goals. If all 11 players had "great games" apart from an unfortunate error that gave a goal away, we would concede at least eleven in every game.

I was very pleased with 99% of the overall performance on Saturday, but to only scrape a 3-2 win in a game that we dominated from start to finish, poses more questions than it gives answers.

I have to agree with both Martin and Spike.

The silly tackles and errors have got to be stopped. I suppose in the case of Saturdays game, Tony was faced with putting out a team with players in strange positions that would never normally have occurred to him usually. Sometimes it fails and other times it’s a success. Personally, I thought it worked OK.

To be honest I thought putting Powell at right back did work especially when we broke from defence, but he was to blame for the second goal. My MoM went to Dafter. He’s put in consistent performances week in week out, and I would continue to have him in my starting 11 if he continues playing like he has.

At the end of the day it’s a much needed win, and hopefully the team can take something from it and kick on from here, but until we cut out the stupid errors, bookings and suspensions we are just going to make things harder for ourselves. Also we don’t have the biggest of squads, so if we lose 4 or 5 players then we hit problems.

I don't see how we can carry a big enough squad to cope with the situation we had on Saturday- seven players injured, one suspended and one unavailable ( Eddie). Apart from the financial burden, how would a squad of more than twenty players be kept happy when all were fit?

Including the new goalkeeper I think we now have a squad of 19.

I'd still like to see another striker brought in to cover any injuries/suspensions. If we were to lose both Cass and Haworth I dont see where the firepower up front would come from.

I think 20 players would be an ideal sized squad.

100% agree spike, on play and chances created we could have scored 7 or 8, but yet again like all games we have played so far we are still unable to shut out teams, for a game we dominated so much could have slipped away due to silly mistakes.
As we have seen we wont get this many chances against better teams, which makes it more than important to get the defensive problems sorted out fast.
We have to learn not only not to give the free kicks away in dangerous areas but also learn to defend the free kicks much better,i had so much confidence (not)
as soon as hastings had a 3rd free kick when we were 3-2 up i thought 3-3 and could have been, the defenders are turning their backs, jumping over the ball for some unknown reasons when the free kicks are taken, unless we sort out the defence we will continue to struggle to get results in the league.
For me its time to be looking for at least 2 quick no nonsence defenders who can deal with players running at them and give us more stability at the back as i still think this will be the key area if we survive or not in this league.

Naive defending. I've said it all along, TB needs to address it, and quick. Let us down in a few games this season.

I agree with Spike as above apart from the criticism of Ryan's tackle. Really he was put into the position as he was covering for an experienced team mate who had gone walkabout. Powell was not in an unusual role for him. I'm sure he played right back for Tonbridge quite a bit. I feel it's a bit harsh laying into him though because he did give us some attacking impetus, but as Spike says - one mistake is one too many at this level.

I still think this result could be a bit of a springboard even if (to use a TB phrase) it does paper over the cracks.

I would go with a squad of 14-15 quality players plus youngsters with potential to make up the numbers.
To achieve this i would release the players who have up to now contributed very little or in some cases nothing.
Harsh maybe but why keep people on good financial terms that arguably even at their best wouldn't get in the starting eleven.

Blimey Welsh, there must be  a recession. Are you sure thats not a bit excessive? Maybe with two or three REAL quality, seven or eight decent players, two who are right tosh and a couple of youngsters and we might get a couple of points till the injuries set in. (The tosh players are designated to be injured as obviously we cant afford to injure the good 'uns)
