80's Revisited
« on: December 04, 2008, 07:39:41 PM »

I'm off down to the coast tomorrow morning to enjoy a pleasant lunch, followed by copius quantities of lager and finally the 'Steel City Tour' feat. Heaven 17, ABC, & The Human League. Classic retro electro-pop shinnanigans to be sure BUT ... which song does the mighty PureDFC Forum think will be the evening's highlight? Will 'The Look of Love' triumph over 'Don't You Want Me?' or maybe 'Temptation' might prove a surprise success on the night. Me? My money is on 'All Of My Heart' reigning supreme (with 'Being Boiled' a close 2nd).

Now where did I put my cavalry shirt and 20 pleat Bowie baggies??? xshrug :embarassed:

Poison Arrow, followed by Tell Me When.
Never was a fan of Heaven 17, so my 3rd place would go to Look of Love.

Have a great time, I'm not jealous at all!!!

After missing out on the 90's revisit after the St Albans (I can't believe nobody told me about Carter and EMF) game I will be setting 12 alarms next week to get tickets for The Specials!

Ha Ha! Yeah TLD, you, me, and just about every other person I know will be sat at their PC's at 9AM on Wednesday! Possibly THE most important gigs of the year xbop

ps: EMF's 'Unbelievable' was fantastic live .... but nothing compared to the might of the awesome Carter USM!

I liked the Human League and saw them live when they first started and they were good. I saw them again after the original group split up and Phil Oakey first got the two screeching girls in and they were ****ing terrible.

Also liked Ultravox and saw them at the Marquee in 1976 (?) when John Foxx was singer, before Your Midget ruined them.

Work has buggered (!) me on this one, so the day out will not happen - I can actually taste the lager. I might still try to get to the actual concerto though cos I am free on the night. I also have tickets for Hammersmith.

The highlight will be decided by who headlines. However, personal faves - Penthouse & Pavement / Love Action / Look of Love (I was on Top of the Pops with them for that one).

The Specials tickets will be a tricky one.

no one can blame u for that! went to see The Beat this year in Shepherd's Bush, turns out the support act WAS the specials minus the white guy with Pauline Black!  xbow my god it was TwoTone Heaven!!!  Was one of the maddest gigs I have ever been to, but I was probably the youngest person in the room by a good generation! hehe.

How'd it go?

Ultravox in '76 deserves a double tip o' the hat xtip xtip Certainly a different proposition to the later reincarnation. Was a wee bit too young when they were in their punk/new wave era as the 1st 'Vox single I can remember hearing was Hiroshima Mon Amour (still with Mr Foxx on vox).  Found it most amusing when Mark 'n Lard managed to get "Rockwrok" onto their Radio 1 playlist - it even got featured on some revival compilations of the time even though it was unheard of even back in the 70's.

If anyone manages to bag any Specials tickets please remember, whoever you are ... I AM AND ALWAYS WILL BE YOUR BESTEST MATE IN THE WORLD, EVER!!!

Oh, for anyone who's interested, ABC's "All Of My Heart" was the best of the night with an honourable mention going to The Human League opening with an awesome version of "Seconds".

Shall we keep this updated with news on Specials Success / Failure?

KP - Sounds like the revival show was good. I gave away my tickets last night and went to Palace / Soton instead.
