But, still, with 8 hours to go and forecasts for a dry day, surely the pitch "could" dry out sufficiently enough before 7.45 tonight...Also, its not as if Harlow fans are already on their way. Possibly a 4pm/5pm inspection would have been better just in case it dries out......

Saying that though, we could do with getting another forward in so suppose its a blessing in disguise

I can assure you Hammer there is no way the pitch would dry out in time...that coupled with the fact that there is nowhere for the water to go means that an early cancellation is better for all concerned. Don't forget that some of the players do not live/work in Dartford and need time to get to the ground. This way as Gary says the players don't have to leave work early.

Ronaldo, sorry for the confusion,I agree we need to improve the squad and bring in better players but I also believe that TB will give Cass a chance,I didn't mean sign players to sit on the bench ,but whoever we sign will probably start on the bench(as Cody did) then it will be up to them to do battle with Cassie and Rob for the a starting place up front, most of us agree that Rob is a fixture now but we do need pace to compliment Rob's style, replacing like for like for Cody will be difficult but I feel that unless we get a quick finisher in then our play off hopes will fall away

That's ok, no confusion, I was just pointing out that I always want to sign better players.
Cody did start on the bench, but he didn't stay there for long. :-D

Fair points Eagle & Gary, I didnt think of the players leaving work etc. As you've said, it did rain heavily last night, so actually its understandable I suppose.. Just a bit disappointed thats all.

Oh well, bring on Billaricccaaaaaayyyyy.....I may even start the match thread now as I dont think i've done it before......

Just goes to show how bad we are at looking after the pitch. I know it has rained for 24 hours and everyone and there mother new it was going to be raining were was the clubs forward thinking to get the pitch cover ( Don't tell me it was going to damage the pitch by covering it no more than we have already) crap really.... Rant over

Bit like warming up in the goal mouths when we have a pitch that sits empty on match days..... xshrug

Sort it out!!! xshrug

Who's going to pay for this cover? What does practicing in the goal mouths have to do with a waterlogged pitch?

about £7k lost to the club and having to pay the players wages again for another week.

The pitch is a state lets face it and the goal mouths laughable really when its pouring hard of rain we still practice in the goal mouths.....

But we would have had to pay them anyway; it's not outside of the season or contract period...

Having a cover at this level is, frankly, ludicrous.

Gilesy, i do agree about warming up in the goal mouths....Stupid thing to do considering its the 1 part of ANY football pitch that will be the first bit to wear out and become boggy and muddy......

Use the sides of the pitch to shoot hopeless balls at eachother instead of at the goal....Save the shooting at the goal until during the game

No monies have been lost, just delayed until the re-arranged game. I would have been astounded if the game would have gone ahead today. Some of the roads I was on last night were flooded.

The pitch is a state lets face it and the goal mouths laughable really when its pouring hard of rain we still practice in the goal mouths.....

Well if you think kicking the ball around in the goalmouth before the game and at half time has caused this game to be postponed, you're very wrong!

Not sure how much a cover costs but it will surely pay for itself in the end.

Tonights game is fine as it will be another Tuesday game but just think if it was a Maidstone/Dover Saturday home game that gets postponed and then replayed on a Tuesday night ( or even worse, a Tuesday night with Chumps league on TV), we would deffo not have got 2013 through the gates on a Tuesday night, so the maths add up that it will pay for itself in a few years time when you take into account admission prices, beer, food, etc etc........

btw, what happens to all the programmes that have been printed up? Do we as a club have to take a hit on that or do they get sold at the rearranged fixture?

I am sure Delboy will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they are used for the re-arranged fixture.

Yes they would have been paid but there not all on contract are they? or are all the team on contracts whether they pay or not?

Jason fair point about the goal mouths but they do not help the quality of the pitch when the look like a beach in Mexico (Sorry there is more sand at PP the Mexico)!

At the end of the day the rain has come on top of 2 weeks worth of awful weather including thick snow so the pitch has had no chance to recover from the torrential rain!

Doubt many games will be on tonight!!

When the ground was designed to be enviromentally friendly, did they mean it was going to double up as a reservoir ? I have visions of all those frustrated stewards at home, telling their kids "You can't stand there, auntie Vi might need toilet". Oh well.
