LOW-KEY DARTS DENIED BY SWIFTS

By Mike Brett-Smith

                  HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS 0 DARTFORD 0                    Att: 376

The short trip to Heybridge witnessed few signs of snowbound travellers and, on arrival, the Dartford squad were confronted by a verdant surface upon which to display their skills and thanks are due to the home groundstaff who obviously displayed theirs.

Tony Burman made just the one change to the starting line-up with Brendon Cass replacing Cody McDonald together with a minor bench re-shuffle.

Dart attacked the ‘shed’ end in the first half, taking the initiative and, as in the home fixture, finding Swifts to be very well organised at the back.  Home supporters were heard to comment that Darts were on top but this proved to be illusory as a good run by Sansford led to Hill testing Andrew Young early on.  For Darts Ryan Hayes set Rob Haworth free but the home goalkeeper, currently in good form, denied the target man.  Overall, though, it was a midfield battle with neither side wresting control for long and with both sides conceding just over 1.3 goals per game it was hardly surprising!

The second half was in similar vein but as time wore on both sides grew more adventurous in seeking the vital breakthrough.  Darts made a couple of substitutions midway through the half to change things around with Lee Noble replacing Brendon Cass – the latter receiving generous applause for his efforts from a strangely mute Dartford contingent – whilst James White replaced Ryan Hayes.

There were moments of heavy pressure at either end late in the game and, right at the death one side or the other could have snatched the win.  In the end neither succeeded and, possibly, Swifts were slightly the more satisfied.

Dartford  Young, Coyle, Gross, Flanagan, Guest, Osborne, Hayes (White 81), Day, Cass (Noble 67), Haworth, Dafter  Subs nor used – Eferakorho, Holding and Ibrahim
