Although I was disappointed to go out of the Ryman League Cup on Wednesday,I was very pleased with the player's efforts through out the match. There was a lot of positives to come out of the game and in particular the performances of Jason Ward, Robert Whitnell and Kiran Dingri all player's from the U21 squad. I also felt that Lee Noble had a very good game. Ok yes he did get booked for trying to win the ball back and some refs see this as aggressive play, but some of the treatment he got without any protection was wrong. Opposing players do not like playing against Lee because he never gives them a minutes peace, its called 100% commitment and I for one am delighted he is in my squad.
As yet I have not been able to add to the squad, although this has been a little bit frustrating,I am sure it will happen when the time comes.
By mutual agreement Alex O'Brien has left the club, although things did not work out this season for Alex, I think he has been the best captain that I have had under my management with the club. He was a great leader and without any doubt was very instrumental in helping us to be champions and win promotion last season. I would to like wish Alex all the very best for the future.
On the injury front we have had some better news with Danny Dafter and Ryan Hayes. After x-rays yesterday Danny has not fractured his ankle but has ligament damage, so hopefully instead of being out for 8 to 10 weeks we could be looking more like 4 weeks fingers crossed. Ryan has responded to treatment this week and has a very slight chance of being in the squad tomorrow but should be ok for Saturday week. John Guest pulled out of Wednesday's game before the kick off and will have a fitness test tomorrow.
We have another tough away game tomorrow and I have no doubt that many of you will be making the effort to travel and support the team.We are all entitled to our opinions before and after the games but for 90 minutes I cannot stress to you how important it is, that what ever team I select, we have got to stick together on and off the field.
Thanks for your support,
Tony
