The Pure DFC Film Thread
« on: May 27, 2009, 11:13:48 AM »

Thought I'd kick off a film thread on here.

Looking forward to seeing Terminator Salvation next week - I am sure Bale will make me fume and rage for a while, given that he'll end up doing his Batman gravel voice, but I can't help but be excited about this. Anyone else seeing/seen anything?

Saw Night at the Museum 2 yesterday.

Great film, great laugh, highly recommend it.

Yeah, I saw that last week (I've got one of those unlimited cards at Bexleyheath) - amusing enough. Stiller is quite annoying, but Hank Azaria is very funny as the Egyptan.

Saw Star Trek on Monday. Well worth seeing. Winona Ryder as Spock's mum! Didn't spot that til the credits.

Also saw this, never watched or liked Star Trek before but it was worth seeing.

I don't go to the movies much, so forgive me if I'm a little behind. But on Saturday I spent 11 hours on a plane from China and I watched Gran Torino and Taken which I thought was highly entertaining. Also watched Duplicity which I highly recommend...you miss.

I wanted to see Gran Torino, but didn't have the time to get to see it. Duplicity has Clive "Oh-When are you going to stop" in it which makes it ultimately missable and one which I am glad I did not see.

Gary, Grand Torino was ok, enjoyable. But Taken was fast and furious, a good action film.

There were some great performances in this film, Bones and Spock were spot on but Kirk and Scotty did not do it for me.

The action was very good and blended very well with the CGI. The real down side with this film for me was the change in time line was not corrected meaning that every episode and film that has gone before has basically now been wiped. Maybe this will be somehow addressed in the next film.

Overall rating for me 8/10

I've not been to see it yet - tried on Friday and got held up by a man having a fight with police in Bexleyheath after he was held in an E.ON van by them (long story). Isn't it supposed to be a reboot of the series (pretty much like the Batman series' are)?

Taken's got Neeson in it, hasn't it? Might try to look it up over the next few months.

Might also plug the Unlimited card thing for the cinema at Cineworld; it's £13.50 per month (12 month term applies, etc etc) - well worth going - 2 visits a month pays for it!

I would happily pay to let someone else go to see "Angels & Demons" in my place. If it only turns out to be half the pile of complete & utter horse s*** that the previous offering was it is still gonna stink the cinema out. I've heard that Ewan McGregor's accent alone is worth a full refund. xshake

And much as I like Tarantino I'm not holding out much hope for "Inglourious Basterds" either.

As for Ben Stiller .... (holding nose) peee-yeeeeeeeeeeeew! xshake xshake

Saw Angels and Demons last week (I get most of my cinema viewing done close-season!!!), I described it to someone as "24 with God". Hanks is irritating, the female lead is pointless, Anti-Matter is just a rubbish hook to provide a big explosion, and McGregor actually is the best point of the film (accent aside - it might be South African, Scottish, New Zealander, Canadian... anything other than the Ulster accent it was supposed to be).

It was miles better than Da Vinci Code which was nonsense from the beginning to the end. This was nonsense, but more entertaining nonsense.

I will, of course, accept a payment retrospectively.

YOU'VE SEEN BOTH FILMS???!!!! Bloody hell Gary, you deserve the money for that alone! Or maybe you should be ridiculed for not learning from your first mistake?
