See my comment from previously:

Also watched The Boat That Rocks on dvd lastnight supposedly based on the old pirate station radio caroline. Not a great film apart from the music, funny in places. I fell asleep with about 20 minutes to go.

Watched it on a Transatlantic flight a few months ago, it passed an hour or 2, cracking  cast........but overall a real let-down ........basically I'd say borrow it if you're particularly bored one evening but don't part with any cash for the privilege of watching it.

must be difficult for the anyone NOT around in the 60s to understand the humour [ just as I don't relate to the current scene ] but several instances fell into scams that I was involved in including " pulling "  and trying to fins a mate with a spare one !!!!!!!!!

suggest anyone under 60 saves their cash , I've got a copy  , IF anyone wants to borrow it ??????????

Saw Harry Brown last night - wonderful film, Sir Michael Caine really does excel when given decent parts.

I suspect, from his interveiws, he only agrees decent parts. As he puts it, he only works if the script appeals to him.

Is this not a bit Gran Tourino-esque?
just seems like they are similar types of films, though both have great actors, Caine would always shade it for me.

Constructive criticism?? Don't get it. If it's still criticism, how is it constructive?

But Eastwood, normally produces, directs and stars so he can be picky.....and I think Sir Michael has done enough c**p that he can also afford to be picky now a days

This is what puts me off going to see this film (and I'd watch absolutely anything with the great John Cusack in it). I believe the greatness of a movie tends to be inversely proportional to the amount of special effects that are in it. CGI over-indulgence, whilst possibly being spectacular,  just tends to bore me most of the time. It ruined Indy 4 and Star Wars 1-3 (or 4-6 if you're that way inclined) xshake

Like the look of that Harry Brown though xnod

Couldnt agree more with that sentiment, but the new star wars films, werent up to much without the FX's spoiling it  :-D

Too many films are all special effects and no substance.

I want to see 2012, simply because having seen Independence Day and Day After Tomorrow in the cinema, it was a spectacle. Not the best films, but a spectacle none the less. 2012 will probably be average movie fare, but it will put on a good show.

Like to back up Gary's opinion of Harry Brown. It's a corker.

Sort of for this thread.... The village where the film 'Local hero' was filmed is in danger of being destroyed by a land slide. Shame because that was a great film and won a BAFTA for best location.

Talking of Michael Caine, here's a quick quiz for a (rather grey) Wednesday afternoon:

How many Michael Caine movies have been remade this decade?
