I'm one of Sir Michael's biggest fans, and much as I admire him for pulling himself up from his humble origins to where he is today, his "stickability" and some of the films he's made, I've never really rated him as an actor - largely because he always looks and sounds so stiff and wooden as though he is all too aware he is acting and not becoming the part - an (almost) fatal flaw in my book. Sorry!

Talking of Michael Caine, here's a quick quiz for a (rather grey) Wednesday afternoon:

How many Michael Caine movies have been remade this decade?

Sleuth? (he's in the remake too)

Oh! and does any remake of "A Christmas Carol" count or must any new version require the inclusion of muppets?

yup, Sleuth with Jude Law (oh dear.....)

I did hear Peter Jackson was trying to remake Battle of Britain - which judging by Hollywood's record will be won by Ben Afleck!  xshrug

Even if Hollywood wasn't invovled, jackson would tell us how true to the original story it was then completely change major events

expect it to last 6 years, over the course of 8 hours of film, and we only win because the yanks saved us.

Constructive criticism?? Don't get it. If it's still criticism, how is it constructive?

Surely if Peter Jackson remakes it, then the B.o.B. will be won by Russell Crowe ..... these Kiwis like to stick together you know!

A quick question for all you film buffs out there.Over the weekend i started to watch two movies on the TV but for different reasons i had to give them up.I was just wondering if any one has opinions on the films and if they are worth tracking down because they both looked as though they might be good.
Island in the Sky (Little known John Wayne film about survival in the Arctic tundra after crashing his plane)
Hills have Eyes 2 (modern remake about American Soldiers about to get despatched in the desert)

Any opinions please. xtip

I don't know a thing about either of them John, but if John Wayne's in one, that one's probably crap !

I normally trust iMDB on films and Hills have eyes 2 gets a poor 5 out of 10 so would guess that it's not very good!

The John Wayne film gets a respectable 6.9, though it only has 1000 votes.  I'd question why only 1000 people who've watched a 56 year old film have felt the need to rate it.  But anything 7 and above on that site is normally pretty good, so it's close and maybe worth a watch.

The only thing i  do know about the John Wayne movie is that it has only been released quite recently because of a protracted legal battle involving his family. That probably explains the lack of votes. How can you say such a thing Ron about a legend like Big John.Ok he may have been a bigoted racist who was further to the right than Attilla the Hun but he made some great movies. Who can forget "The greatest story ever told" when he played a centurion who said to Christ "He truly was the Son Of God" in his best Texas drawl.

The one John Wayne role I can never remember is his role in the Second World War..........
Oh I just remembered he turned that one down.

Laid up with a bad back last week I actually watched the John Wayne film in question, and although mildly entertaining I did have to keep flicking back to Cash In The Attic.
