They don't get much credit so fair play to Millwall for their turn out last night!

Sounds like a great evening all round and another good workout for the lads!

Seems to be so much optimism building up for the 15th August I reckon our home attendances will be up a fair bit this term which should be good!!

Enjoyable evening but a bit strange standing in my usual place opposite the main stand surrounded mostly by away fans.
On a side note did anyone feel that the flood lights looked dimmer than usual,  or was it my eyesight?

To be honest John i understand and agree with your point about the Stewards but bear this in mind.Put yourself in the Stewards position and you were faced with 3000 Millwall supporters, would you honestly try to persuade them to move.So give them a break i am sure the majority do their best.

my comment was slightly 'Tongue-in-Cheek'-----I fully appreciate and understand that in hindsight it wouldn't have been the most sensible thing to do, and we all saw and complained about the heavy handed Stewarding at the St Albans game during the penalty shoot out  ...so I agree common sense was the best approach last night.

Sorry ........I just get really annoyed of the pettiness of our Stewards at times, having myself been asked a couple of times to move a whole 12 inches on to the terracing, while waiting for the half time whistle to blow, or being asked (sorry......told) to move along if I've stopped to talk to people for a few minutes.  If there's no issue standing on the walkway last night with the Fire Safety Officer at the ground why enforce it so strictly at  other games  :? :? :? :?

In answer to JohnJ's first point (albeit tongue in cheek), lets look at the situation:

There is a recession going on and you are a small non league club run mainly by volunteers, you have a partnership with Millwall and manage to sell the game out, many of the tickets being sold in the last 24 hours (unexpectedly) when most of the volunteers are doing the job that pays the mortgage. You have asked for stewarding volunteers from amongst supporters, a small amount, if any at all come forward.

Do you

a. Order loads of stewards at the last minute (if you can get them) and eat up a decent amount of the profits you make on the game and probably have confrontation issues (John specifically mentioned St Albans - I think that's a decent point to be made about that match, and one I hope/am sure the club have learned from)

b. Let it ride for one game and hopefully put the gate money towards your promotion push.

I know what I would do, personally, especially given that there were no problems (a very minimal police presence in a passive capacity only), a good atmosphere at the game and compliments from Millwall fans on the way it was handled.

All the people standing in the walkways could have been made to stand on the terraces if the stewards/safety officers had acted early enough before the sheep  decided to play copy cat! There was a large amount of spare room on the terraces in quite a few places. Rather than repeated tannoy anouncements asking them to move perhaps a better ploy would have been to say that the match would not kick off untill the walkways were clear, just an idea!

3 sell outs since PP opened (off the top of my head) and many hundreds unable to attend last night, successful financially for the club and any issues arising from last night surely being talked about and learned from, I took my 4 year old son and no issues there, many positives all round and would say that all fans should post their thought good, bad and even constructive!

Now the matches against full time pros are finished its now down to really preparing for the new season playing teams 'more our level'. Hope that the walking wounded all get fit for the big one, that's Horsham folks.

I'd just like to say how fantastic last night was. The stadium is great, I'll be going to reserve games next season.

Also, a big thank you to the two Dartford fans who I shared a cab with back to Dartford station. I insisted on paying but, they weren't having any of it. You don't get people like that in Bermondsey.

Terrific night for both teams and good luck to your team next season.

Hats off to Millwall Players and Fans. Spent time to chat with them before and during game. Fine bunch of fellas ( & ladies)-welcome back anytime I'd say. Millwall easily the best side we've seen thus far, good work ethics, great passing & movement , also easy on the eye. Saying that, we didn't let ourselves down either. Defence looked much better despite quality goals conceded. Ibrahim confident when he came on-a plus for the future! Rhyno showing nice technical ability as did white. Lacked penetration up front until Burchell came on and actually put the wind up them. Well done to all team, TB & Skip.

Really enjoyed it last night Millwall fans caused no trouble, I bet it was a nice change for them a handful of stewards, a very small police presence outside and no segregation.

Despite the score line it wasn’t all down one end and made a good match to watch we look a real threat cant wait to for the season to start to see what we are really capable of.  COYD

Got to our 3 reserved seats to find people sitting in them, they said they had been told they could sit there by the steward. Started to tell them they were our reserved seats and showed our seat number passes, when the steward came over and lead us to vacant seats in the directors enclosure which averted a probable confrontation. Really enjoyed game, we are looking good, the games for this pre season have mainly been good tests, far sterner than last season, dont think Ryno was my MOM, there were a few candidates Rob, Coyle, Day all did well as did most of the squad.
