Well, that game was an absolute delight to watch. I will mention Hendon Greg, because they were not a bad side at all, and could have scored a couple themselves if they had taken their their chances. This result must have sent shivers down the spines of the rest of the clubs in the league because I travelled down to the game expecting a close game, given that Hendon were well placed in the league. However, they were blown away by the sheer strength of the Darts.
I really was impressed by the new look Darts yesterday. They looked a big, strong side, full of confidence, in all areas of the park, with perhaps Ryno, the only one for me not quite fully consistently in the game and I think fairly substituted by TB. There were flashes of his magic, no doubt at all, but I can understand fans frustrations when it is said they don't know which Ryno will turn up!!
And yes, the referee got it totally wrong with the booking of Rob Haworth. I was right in line with his intended shot on goal. He had turned and left his marker for dead. You could see his eyes concentrating on lining up his shot on goal. He was brought down as his leg was in the air poised to shoot. What striker would take a dive when he could see every chance of a goal from open play. Certainly not a dive by any stretch of the imagination. I also wonder about the other officials. They used to be called linesmen in my day, and the fact they are now called assistant referees and their very name means they should be assisting the referee. So many still want only to flag for out of play or off side. That linesman was close enough to have made a comment to the referee, but did not want to get involved. What makes the situation worse is that players or clubs are not allowed to appeal cautions, so later on in the season, Rob could be penalised for accumulating 5 cautions when at least one of them was not warranted.
To be honest, I have not seen a more impressive performance from the Darts for a very very long time. If this is the sort of fayre that is being served up, then I wish I could get down to see games more often. Strength in depth as well, TB and his back up team deserve every credit coming their way. I know it's early days yet, but even Hendon fans returning to the station were commenting on the strength of the Darts and we were the best team they had seen in a long time.
Given the strength in depth, it would be nice to have a margin in league points to enable us to put together a good FA Cup run together with the extra cash that would generate.
Thank you TB and everybody involved. And congratulations on the Manager of the Month award as well. Only sorry I couldn't stay long enough to see the presentation, but I had a train to catch!!
