Has someone been doing something to offend the weather gods? Please apologise and offer some sort of offering, as I am middle aged and wish to see this season end before I totter off the mortal coil.

As a fellow middle-aged footie fan I'm duty bound to point out that it has noting to do with the weather gods, it's just that in the good old days they only used to postpone games if the pitches were life-threatening. Nowadays they call games off for the slightest little thing and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we get games postponed due to "damp pitches" or because the sky "looks a bit dodgy".

It's turning into a tarts game I tell you, why you can't even lump someone up in the air without a yellow or red card being brandished and every little punch in the mouth or elbow in the stomach is treated as some sort of criminal offence. It's getting as bad as that bloody stupid cricket game where they sit about drinking tea and eating cake for five days, disappearing into the pavillion if someone spots a grey cloud 200 miles in the distance. Kids today eh?

Is that when they had jumpers for goalposts and rolled up newspapers for shin pads Spike?

My dear Spike, with indeed a post to match this afternoon !!  :-) Bad day at the office mate ???

I do agree with your sentiments entirely as to why football matches these days are postponed and I fear that because we are now living in an era of ' make a claim no win no fee ' the situation will only deteriorate further !  Until we are playing all our footie games through the summer along with the rugby league guys  xshrug What will we all do then during the winter !

However, I must leap to the defence of us ' true cricketing gentlemen folk ' who adore the sound of ball on willow during the summer months in a quiet corner of the countryside with the added incentive of the cream tea's and a villiage pub for afters.  :-)
May I conclude dear friend we need something as a stp-gap to pass the time before the next footie season starts !

Up the Darts !!

Not sure if I'll be rushing home from work for this one tonight after saturday's debacle. I am sure the pitch will be playable and both the managers and the players will be keen to play.
But spare a thought for our ever so delicate officials. Will they be up for it? Or will it be far too cold for them?
Whatever happened to the real men in black? xfinger

Drat! You just beat me to it! I was just about to post the same forecast (with our defence unable to keep clean sheets these days and Carl Rook to score the winner).

I like this prophecy business of some of you guys. It's foot and mouth. Billy Ricky are dragging out some good results lately, and I bet they would love to be the first side to bugger up that away record of ours.
If we win Great, but this is no forgone conclusion.
By the way Spike, it's beginning to look cloudy again.

From their site "Simon Thomas will not be available for selection for tonight's league clash against Dartford, as he will playing in a reserve/trial game at Southend United on Wednesday evening.".........Every little helps. COYD

I have no objection to a few beers or a picnic in the country, it's the absurd notion that just because in between stuffing your faces with cakes, someone has a lump of wood in his hand and another bloke chucks a ball at it about once every 5 minutes and they want to call it a sport! That I find ridiculous.  xwhis

I suspect it's rather more to do with the import from across the pond of the 'blame and litigate society' and fleets of get-rich-quick ambulance chasers. No one wants to be blamed and sued so they take the safe option - if in the slightest doubt call it off. Doubtless the FA mindful of their insurance premiums have given officials some instruction to this effect.
