Bat and Trap at PP
« on: April 08, 2010, 10:46:02 AM »

The Dartford and District Bat and Trap League is about to prepare and launch its Annual League and Knock - Out Tournaments, for May to September. Last year, there were 10 teams from local Pubs and Clubs. So, a number of the Darts' faithfuls (including those who knew it played at Watling Street) are already familiar with this 'Ancient, Honourable and Fun Kentish game'. It's played in the Pub / Club back garden or lawn. Some vaguely call it, a mini form of Cricket!

Therefore, like the successful and growing DFC Pool team, we intend to have a DFC Bat and Trap team this summer. There appear to be some interests from within the club. A minimum of 7-8 players are needed in the Squad (With any 6 selected), to start off with. Ideally, teams consist of Adults, including ladies and some 'Responsible Teenagers'. New players are welcome and may even form another team, eventually. The pitch will be conveniently positioned opposite the 'new Bistro / Bar', by the trees. Home matches will be floodlit, on Wednesday Nights (KO: 8.30pm). Most Away games also take place on Wednesdays, with a small number of Knock - Outs on occasional Sundays (K.O: 12.30pm). A Trophy Presentation Night usually takes place at the end of the season.

As soon as the pitch is ready, there will be a 'Come and Try' session, or so. This will be before the end of April and ahead of the new season starting. Further information will be posted here as soon as possible, to this effect.
Meanwhile, should you have any query about it, please call: Mick on 07947 331213

The Bat and Trap League Season starts on Wednesday, 12 May '10 (TWO WEEKS TO-MORROW NIGHT).
Next Wednesday 05/05/10, the Fixture List should be available (And will probably be on display by the PP Reception area).

Conveniently situated opposite the new Bistro / Bar, the pitch is now lined. Two posts and lights should shortly be in place.
The Batting / Bowling / Scoring gear and the Trap are already stored near PP's Reception.

As previously mentioned, there will now be 'Knock - About / Warm - Up / Come and Try' pre - season sessions as follows:

Thursday, 29 April @ 2.00 - 4.00 pm.,
Monday (Bank Holiday), 03 May @ 1.00 - 4.00 pm,.

Another (Possibly evening session) will be organised, once the posts and lights are there and ahead of the League starting. Likewise, this will be advised as soon as possible.

So, looking forward to welcoming you at the new DFC Bat & Trap Home pitch, as above.
As many willing players as possible will be needed. Please join us!

Mick, I will endeavor to come along Thursday, though I may have to leave a little earlier than 4.
The only problem is, I haven't a clue exactly what Bat and Trap is  :-D though I can play cricket

Might try to get up on Monday - might be difficult though.

Everyone's welcomed. You can pop in and out, as you need, on those dates.
You might be surprised how 'good' you may be at this (Definitely with a laugh... whilst keeping fit!!!)
See you there (Opposite the new PP Bistro / Bar)...

The Pre - season warm - up / come & try sessions have gone on well (Despite the cold 'Bank Holiday' wind yesterday).

A few more names have been added on to the list of 'possible' players. The final pieces of the jigsaw (Two posts and lights) should be in place ready for our 1st Season, staring next Wednesday, 12 May (Home or Away?)

We'll have the Fixtures List to-morrow night during the Cttee meeting at the Welsh. A copy will be pinned on to the new Notice Board, opposite the  Bistro / Bar. Check it out and turn up on the night. Identified players will be reminded of next Wednesday's fixture.
If you or anyone else fancies trying it / playing soon, meet us there as per Fixture List.

For £2.00 subscription / Weekly, you'll be part of the team, eat the food Home and Away and save towards the end of season Presentation / Party Drinks (Around October).

See you there for the fun...

Thoroughly recomend this to anyone, still thinking maybe. Easy to play, difficult to master, and should be the ultimate in games to play whilst drinking.

Bat and Trap is a good grin I used to play for The Mason's Arms team many moons ago. That was the "old" Mason's Arms not the tacky music pub that it turned into.
I remember playing a game against a DFC team at Watling Street we played along the side of the pitch near the main stand and the bar extension.

I may well have played against you then for DFC on that hallowed turf at Watling Street.

Here we go Guys & Gals:
Following the Bat & Trap League Cttee meeting last night, Dartford F.C - as one of nine teams - will play their 1st game of the League season, next Wednesday, 12 May '10 at HOME, ko - 8.30pm v the Lads of the Village 'A' (Several times, Champions) .

A copy of the Fixtures List, along with some B & T information will be on the Notice Board, opposite the Bistro / Bar.
Please check it out and turn up. The team will have experienced and newly - introduced players. Those who've already expressed an interest to play will be reminded, ahead of next Wednesday. New players will always be welcomed and gradually played.
The season ends on 8th September (when things hot up in the Football Blue Square South...)

A £2.00 weekly subscription will be recorded to help towards the cost of food at Home (Free Away), any required minor equipment renewals (like balls), 'fines' and remaining funds towards the end of season Presentation Drinks. Away travel will be by mutual arrangements.

As soon as the required two posts and lights are in place, an evening trial run may be arranged ahead of next Wednesday.

See you all then!

Won't manage to be available for the first game, though if it stays the same time, should make a few weeks after this one.

Courtesy of 'Lifecare Centre', we now have adequate lights too. I'm sure the Food'll be sorted.
So, Kick Off's at 8.30pm to-night. A mix of 'experienced and new players' will be selected throughout the season. Only £2.00 / weekly each.
See you all at the new 'Champions Bar' to-night then. (Including with a Transplant, if possible...)

The new DFC Bat & Trap team gained a 1st point last night, despite losing 2-1 to Champions, Lads 'A'.
A very good turn - out of experienced and new players, great atmosphere despite a cold evening, decent 'Bite Me' food from a busy 'Champions' Bar, with Fulham on TV.
Away at the Royal Oak, Bean next Wednesday.
Well done to all concerned.
