Hello again,   Well no success to brighten up your evening Played two lost two, both knockout competition's.  On sunday last six of the squad Tony, Scott, Phil, Dave, Jay and Mick played the Brewers Arms in what is called knockout four's. The lads put the brewers into bat, but it wasn't until the brewers had 32 run on the board that the lads got there bowling sorted and bowled all four for a further 12 runs. in return Tony was bowled for 1 ( nothing you can do about that ) But the rest all had K/O's game over  one down. In the second game the line up changed a bit, Jay replaced Scott and Dave for Mick Both Tony and Jay were bowled while on 7 apiece Dave and Phil both K/O all out for 18, need not say more thay lost the second game and the match.

Last night Wednesday we played the Welsh Taven, this again a league knockout, Only six in the team Scott, Me, Dave, Jay, Phil, and Mick. I believe we won the toss, anyrate they batted first, and things went well I got the first wicket with my first ball 1 For 1 also Mick 2 for 4, there third wicket was a K/O I got the forth they were on 17 Dave  made it 17 for five while big Phil put the finishing touch getting the last wicket while they were on 18. I for one was on a bit of a high, but that didn't last Scott and I both K/O for a big Zero, Dave bowled first ball Jay also K/O with Phil being bowled for 1. Our last hope was on Micks shoulders, He got to fifteen making the score's level, and to our disapointment was bowled, we were gutted to say the least.

The second game the welsh again batted first with 3 K/O's and 3 bowled for a score of 53, we copied the Welsh with 3 K/O's but for ony 6 runs, Leaving Jay Phil and Mick to try and salvage something but alas Jay only got 6 , Phil 12 with mick bringing up the rear reaching 16 all three bowled, so one draw and one loss all to play for in game three.

The Welsh gave us a target of 39 runs to get, Six runs each simple said one of the team, again the first 3 of us were all out for 1, Jay was doing well but alas was bowled while on 14, Phil K/O on 9 and our rear guard Mick Knocked out, all over. Another cup we won't be getting.

This weekend at the fun day / Keeper Wars at Princes Park, we are taking on the Rose in another cup called the sunday sixes, Perhaps we might have better luck, you never know, but we will keep trying anyrate.

Thanks for looking in    Wilkie.  (Football will soon be with us once again)

Sorry I'm a day late this week,  Well I dont know really where to start but I suppose the sunday knockout game would be a start. We had Royalty watching in the name of the DUKE of DFC and his wife, but he wasn't much help as we went down the usual 2 nil.  We bowled first but were unable to hit the wicket, we did eventually bowl four, 2 apiece for Phil and I,  but at a cost of 98 run to them. I made the usual start straight K/O for 0, Scott got a season best of 8 then he K/O the rest of the team were all bowled, we didn't get anyway near there score.  In the second game we were put into bat first, we had two K/O ( not me for once) and the rest of us all bowled. so that's put an end to the knockout games for this year.

Right on to this wednesdays match at the Welcome All, this time it was their "B" team, we beat the A team at the start of the season.
We came out the blocks fighting all five of us.  Mick got us off to a blinding  start bowling the first one out with 4 runs on the board, it didn't stop there for him, as he bowled three more, four wickets from four balls, the other two had K/O's so we were one up with Jay getting the winning runs.
Game two we won the toss and put them into bat again, and all but poor Scott got a wicket apiece with one K/O,  30 runs to win we said, well they didn't think like us, Scott and Jay both bowled first ball and me and Phil knocking out, it was left to our man Mick to again pick up the pieces, but alas he was also bowled while on 9  so now one all.
Onto the third and final game, again we won the toss and asked them to bat first once again, this time they made 35 runs, which was the winning score as we fell short all outfor 15. So another night we should have done better, but in our defence there was only five of us out of the 11 squad, two had family problems which is understandable, but the rest god knows.

Wicket takers tonight   Mick 7  Big Phil 3  Jay 2 and tail end charlie me 1
Highest runs  Jay 26.

I was asked on Sunday how old Bat & trap was where was it started ,as they had never heard of it.
Bat and trap is also known in some parts as Knurl and Spell is mainly played in Kent and Sussex, but under a different name in other areas out side these two counties. It is thought that it might go back to the 13th century no one realy knows as no records can be found before 1902. Manuscripts of the 13 century show a monk playing a game very similar, but no one can be sure. It is thought that farm workers of that time used to play it.

Bye for now Wilkie

Hi All        Match 10 of the season where does the time go.
Last night we played the "A" team from the Welcome All Pub at P P.
Phil our captain for the night won the toss and asked the Welcome to bat first, we did reasonably well with Jay bowling out 2 and Phil 1 with the rest all  K /O's, Total runs 40 runs.
In reply Dave started well reaching 12 before he was bowled, the next two of us K/O, (very poor again) and the rest of the team all bowled for 13, 25 all out, again not a great start and One down.

For the second game, we changed the team bringing in two more experienced players. We batted first and Kath was bowled first ball, while Phil K /O for 2, but the rest of the team all got into double figures before all being bowled . Dave 14 Jay16 Tony 14 Mick13 making a respectable score of 59.  Our visitors only managed 22 all out, Jay bowling the first with the rest all K/O's  making it 1 game all.

The third and final game of the night we were put into bat first after losing the toss,  playing the same squad that won game 2, Things didn't start off on a good note with the first three all out with 2 runs on the board, but Tony came to the rescue knocking up 23 before being bowled, Phil added another 8 then K/O, Mick was bowled for 2 making a total of 35 runs. The team had the bit between there teeth, Jay and Phil bowled the first two for three runs, after that the Welcome team just fell to pieces, the rest all K/O for 18 runs.

We had won and also done the double over them winning home and away,  see what happens when they dump me !!

The captains challenge was a draw 1/2 point each, as it was getting quite late.

Run makers tonight  Tony 37, Dave 27,  Jay and Mick 19 apiece,
 with Phil on 10
Bowling wise Jay 4, Phil 2, With Mick on 1.

Just over 130 of you looked in last week, I hope I don't bore you to Much

Cheer's Wilkie.                    [/size]

Hello and welcome to my waffle.

Well the up's and downs of Bat and trap, last week on a high, this week down to earth with a bump.  we put up a good fight last night against the Welsh Tavel grew.
I looked back through previous notes I have posted, just to see if I had said anything  about the welsh pitch, but I hadn't. well its bumpy and grassless in parts, not the worsed but not far short.

Right onto the nights match, Big Phil won the toss and put them into bat, for some reason.  There first batsman was I think about the best in there team, he scored 25 before Scott of all people got one on target to bowl him out, we had some very near misses as we did all night, Dave Phil and myself got 1 apiece with two K/O's, but by that time they had reached 60 runs.
Again our batting let us down in places, Dave being bowled first ball wasn't the  start we wanted. Jay was then bowled for 1, I managed 5 before I K/O, Mick once again was coming to our aid but unfortunately K/O on 34, Phil and Scott K/O for 1 run making our total 41 all out.

Onto game 2,  we were put into bat and made 37 all out.  Dave was on 8 when he had terrible bounce off the pitch which went out of play, so he had a K/O.  Kath started well but K/O on 5, But the wicket of the night was Jay's, he was caught, yes caught, he over hit the return ball from the trap, this doesn't happen very offen, he was on 6. Young Ken was in next and was in full swing but he was bowled while on 15. Phil and Mick just made 3 between them,so as stated all out for 37.  In return the team were doing realy well, they had bowled out 5 for 28 runs , but alas couldn't get the final player out, so now two down.

In the final game we batted first again, we were all about the same, two bowled 4 K/O's for 26 runs. We got off to a good start with our bowling,  two out for 2 run's, but from then on it was near miss one after another, But as the old saying goes, a miss is as good as a mile, Phil did get a third, which kepted him happy. So once again we ended losing 3 - nil.

We now have a 3 week break as we had been knocked out of all knockout cup competition's, so we are going to play our own competition and play amongst ourselves at PP ( Training in other words)

I will be back to lighten up your day on August 4th  after our next match which is against the Rose, We hope for a better result, so please gross your finger for us.

Well we have our footie to watch now, I liked what I saw on monday night at PP onwards now to Gillingham on Friday. I say bye for now and thanks for looking in.

Hi Wilkie here with Bat & trap news once again, but it's not good, you guess right we lost once again.
After our three week break I had hoped that we would get at least a point from the match, but we got done 3 nil down at the Rose.
In the first game we won the toss and made the mistake of asking them to bat first, this team are the best batting crew in the league by far. the team done well in repect that they did bowl them all out, but at a cost of 69 runs.  the wicket fall was 1-1  2-20  3-27 4-27 5-39 and there last player got 30 before Kath managed to get the wicket.
Our turn at batting didn't get off to a good start with Jay being bowled for one , but was only the start of the rot both Dave and Phil were bowled first ball, so we were 3 for 1 run Kath managed 13 before she k/o scott and Mick both K/O  for only 2 more runs. I'll leave you to add it up. 1 down.

Game two, we were put into bat first, Tony Bowled for 9  Ken Dave Kath and myself all K/O  for 9 runs between us Mick was bowled first ball. alas we were all out for 18. It didn't take there first batsman long to achieve this total. now two down, so onto the last game of the night.
The rose batted again first, we just could not hit the trap, near misses, bounce over the top, eventually Kath got 2 on target but, it was to little to late they reached 70 again and declared, we did  managed to get half way to there score, all out for 35, but one good point was that all six members of the team got runs. That I think is a first with me in the team.

Well that will do for this outing, we are at home next week, so lets hope once again that we can do a bit better  Bye for now  Wilkie

Hi  another week has come and gone,I don't know what to say about tonight, only that we got a pasting losing all three games to the Brewers. I picked the first of the teams and won the toss and decided to bat first , I thought that if we got some runs on the board it would stand us in good stead, but it wasn't to be 5 of the team were bowled with one K/O for 25 runs. In return we only got 1 wicket, so nothing had changed our bowling was still poor.

The second game we again batted first, I afraid to say our batting again let us down 4 of us K/O with the other two being bowled, all out this time for 26. Nothing changed with our bowling, in fact we didn't take wicket.

In the last game we lost the toss and were put into bat first again, I like a plonker K/O for 1 , then we played a new member to our team Liam, Micks young son. He hadn't played before and showed us all up, he scored 17 before he K/O the rest of the team all K/O other than Tony who was bowled, but we still only made 24 runs. Tony got our hopes up a bit when he got an early wicket, getting there number one batsman out and young Liam got a second, but it was all over by this time with the way the rest of us were bowling, so in conclusion a very poor squad performance and a 3-nil defeat

Next week we are away to the league leaders The Lads of the Village so who knows what might happen, we will just have to wait and see, as some football manager once said "it's a funny old game"

Well thats it for this week, will be back again next, in the mean time hopefully our lads on the park will have made a good start to the season and got us three point down at the Mare, let's hope so.   Wilkie.

It's that time of the week for more, what do you call it ? chat I surpose, any rate Sorry it's a bit late had a bit of a busy day, this morning going to Tony Funeral, and this after noon emergency pluming for my bother.Well we continued with our form but, this week we didn't lose three nil, but two- one and that was a good result as we played the league champions. with the two points gained from last night they cannot be beaten, as I under stand the situation.
Now what happened, In the first game we elected to bat, but that went pear shape as we only managed 22 runs, other than Kath who was bowled for 9 the rest of us all K/O. we did managed to get two wickets via our new member Liam and the other by Kath, but the Lads are a very good batting side, we didn't stand much chance with such a low score, so one down.

In game two again we elected to bat first with a slighty different line up bringing in Liam and Ken to replace Me and Phil. Well things were not looking good with the first five out for 3 runs, but our trump card was playing MICK who was right on the button before he was bowled for twenty, one more run than the first innings. In this game you must never give up,and the team proved just that with there bowling. Jay got the first one out for three, then to our joy we had a K/O 2 for 3. Liam had the honour of getting No three, now 3 for 8, to our surprise they had onother K/O with only one more run being added 4 for 9, things were looking up, but you cant count your chicken's until they hatch, but with 13 runs on the board Ken got another, so with 5 out they needed 11 more to win, but Jay wasn't having that and got another on target for his second of the night, and they were all out for 19 and a brillant win by the team.

Well onto to final game, we lost the toss and were asked to bowl, but things didn't go like the previous game, Kath got the only wicket when they were on 62, I said at the beginning that they were a good batting side, towards the end the Lads team just K/O as it was getting rather late, but not before reaching 82 run , a tall order. I wont mention names but the first five all K/O for 4 runs on the board Mick again was the last man and he hit another 23 before he was bowled. He was our only chance of fame, but we did dent the Lad's total wins of 3 nil's

Tonight we have Phil playing at the Brewers and Jay down the road at the Welsh Taven, both are playing in the knockout singles, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them. We haven't got a game next week as it's the wednesday knockout cup, we went out in round one, so it will be up to PP for some practice for me and hopefully some of the team.  Our next and final game of the season is in a fortnight Wednesday 31st when we play the Welcome All B team, a team we should have beaten at there place, that was the night that Mick took four consecutive wickets.

Thats it for tonight, get behind the Darts see you in two weeks      WILKIE

This B machine keep goin on the blink , so any spelling mistakes i'm sorry.

looks like the team has turned the corner , just remember Wilkie it took the Messiah [ TB] 2 seasons to get it right so you still have time especially now you have started to bring in some ringers !!!!!!!!!

Good to see Kath is doing a bit for Womens Lib , perhaps you lot should consider a bit of cross dressing ?????

With a bit of cross dressing or hot cross bums... we'll be in next year's league regardless. PP's pitch's now so famous that the Sunday Knock  -Out Final's being played there on 4th September!

Hi to you all,      This is the last report on our B&T season.

We played our final match last night and things didn't go our way as usual, we entertained the Welcome All B team at PP and afraid to say lost all three games.
I won't bore you with all the details like I have done in the past. I only played in the first game, after being bowled for 1 which I couldn't do much about , but my bowling was very poor, I can't put my finger on why I cant' get them on target these days , so I decided to let the rest of the team have a go at getting some points without me and keep the score. We only managed 18 runs in the first game, so that was easely past although they did have three K/O.

Now onto game two, somehow we asked them to bat first, Their first and second batsman took the score to 17, Mick and Kath got the wickets but from then on it went all wrong, it took until they had scored a total of 59 before another wicket was taken this time by Scott. Mick took two more for 8 runs, the sixth batsman  K/O for 0. So we were chasing 68 to win not impossible!!.
As usual it did not go our way Kath and Phil were both bowled with four runs between them, Scott Dave and Jay all K/o but Jay did get nine runs before hand, but what a state to be in, well it was all down to Mick once again, as I call him Tail end charlie. He got into his stride and was on 39 before he was bowled, by a new girl in the Welcome team, it was the first ball that she had anywhere near the wicket, but it put a end to our hopes that Mick could save us.

The last game I'm not going to say much about, we had four bowled two K/O         all for 11 runs, I say no more.

As I have said another season over, we haven't done as good as we would have liked, but one consolation we cannot be relegated. I would like at this time to say a big thankyou to ANDY our groundsman, As most of you will remember I told you that I had around ten ton of top soil dumped onto the pitch at the end of last season, Andy off his own back helped me get it in order with his advise, we now have the best B&T pitch in the league, before last nights game he cut the grass, marked it out and put the water on. All the team members go along with me in thanking him, and hope next season we do better.

Well thats it, will say bye for now and god willing I will be back boring you next season, Take care and support the darts as only you know how   WILKIE.

...here we go again! Wilkie's learnt that the Dartford & District Bat & Trap League kicks off on Wednesday, 16th May / 8.00pm for 8.30pm. He's organised a warm - up session for next Wednesday, 9th May / 8.00pm, at PP. The new season's Fixture List will be available then. Existing and new players are invited. Obviously, we can hopefully also preview in the Champions' Bar, the BSS Playoff Final ahead of Sunday 13th.
