Card fraud
« on: April 13, 2010, 02:20:16 PM »

Hello buddies. Just had a call from my bank stating that £1.01 has been taken out of my account by a "GB Group" - looks like I've been hacked. Anyone have much experience of this?

Gordon Brown hacked you! O_o

Or it could have been the banks parent company "The Greedy Bast***s Group"

Gary,
Looks like someone has got hold of your details and has tested the water to see if the transaction would go through and then clean out your bank account. This happened to me at ,I am sure a petrol station at the top of the dual carirageway by the roundabout in Dartford. (Right turn out of ground) sorry dont know the names of the roads.
My details were given to Carphone Warehouse for 99p but my bank found it suspicious and declined any further transactions.  xshake xshake

Funny enough, I did get my petrol there the other weekend (10 days ago?). I think Chairman Dave was done up there as well a couple of years ago. BP boycott xno

i got done quite badly there a few years back along with loads of other people (think in the end i knew of about 10 people that got done) they took a few grand, but fair play to my bank (HSBC) they sorted it straight away for me and the money was straight back in the next day.

heard of a few recently where they take a small amount and then try for a larger amount once the first amount goes through, but banks a re fairly hot on it now days and spot it early

HSBC are my bank too and they were very good at finding it straight away. Just be careful, pals, when using the BP.

How's this for irony, GB Group are a company specializing in Anti Fraud!!

http://www.gb.co.uk/

Its like anything like this, whether it be your mobile phone being stolen or your card being copied. As soon as you are aware it is missing or money has come out that shouldnt, let your service provider bank know straightway and they will block everything. Also, if anyone uses your phoen or steals your money, the banks will refund anuything up until the point it is discovered.

I had £4.28 in my account when I irst tried to send money over to Natwest, and although only £2.29 was taken out,  it's the principle.

To be fair Natwest sorted it within 4 minutes of me telling them.

Thanks Natwest  xbow

July 2008 for me- same BP garage. I still use it but have always paid in cash since. In my case they used a cloned card in South Africa. I got the money back but spent a weird 4 days dealing with Nat West.
Nat West internal security team rang me on a Saturday night and left a message. When I rang back they asked me a couple of security questions and said they could not tell me why they had rung because they could not confirm that I was Mr Stoat Throttler. I asked how they thought I managed to get hold of an internal security number that had just rung me if I was not the chap they wanted to alert. The guy responded that he needed more proof that I was in fact me. When I asked what further details he rquired or what proof I needed to supply he said that he was not at liberty to tell me what information he required just in case I was not me and was then able to supplyit! I asked how I could manage to find out why he had rung me on a Saturday night on presumably a serious security matter if he would not tell me. He suggested I visit my branch. I did and the girl said "Oh, they're security. They wouldn't tell us why they rang you".
So I rang the security bods back on the Monday and got one who was prepared to take the risk of imparting some information. One of the security questions was my birthdate which they had as 1900, making me 108. When I answered the question I got the right day of the year but obviously the wrong year. I even had to attend Nat West in Dartford with my passport to prove for their records that I was not 108!

We're still sceptical ST  xwhis

My card was done last year and also used in South Africa. I was lucky to be refunded as it was Debit not Credit (thus not guaranteed). There were four initial transactions of just under ten quid, then two more substantial ones. If I had better kept an eye on things I'd have possibly prevented it happening. Strangely, it was on the way to Heybridge at the infamous BP that I found out, but I suspect the 'clone' was done in Spain.
