CAN WE RAISE IT?? - PART 2
« on: July 22, 2010, 10:37:15 PM »

After our fantastic efforts last season in raising the money for the pitch roller i have spoken to the club for some suggestions on our next target.
Now i am a superstitious sod so was rather nervous about their request.................... a trophy cabinet.
However looking up at the board room window on Tuesday night i would say it is a necessity and i know a lot of you guys had already mentioned this as a good idea. However before we start a collection it would be good if we can find out how much a cabinet approx 3 X 3 metres would cost. As far as i'm concerned it doesn't have to be a "trophy cabinet" as such as long as it can be locked, has the necessary safety glass and is approx the size the club is looking for. So initially all i am asking for is for some help in finding out what type of cabinets are available and the costs. The club are very keen to purchase one asap so even if it proves expensive they would be delighted for any money we can contribute towards the total and bear in mind we still have £247 in the kitty from last time.

So please guys can you help and come up with some good suggestions.

Pretty sure when I mentioned it last I thought the club knew what cabinet they actually wanted, and what price it was.
Surely they have the best idea?

Constructive criticism?? Don't get it. If it's still criticism, how is it constructive?

I have spoken to at least three of the clubs officials/board and as far as i'm aware they are open to suggestions.

when I was thinking of doing a parachute jump for this, If I remember rightly Nic said they had seen some around £1500.00 quid. I dont kow what size it was. AS you have said we want one, so if we can raise 50% towards it I think that would be great .

I have had a quick look on a few websites but so far only found off the shelf  units just over 1 metre wide for approx £1000-1200. We therefore would need two of them or a purpose built one. Still looking and would be grateful for any help and suggestions.

Steve

A friend of mine is willing to quote for a purpose built cabinet. He is a very accomplished carpernter / cabinet maker who I can highly recommend. The club could then decide exactly the size and design they require.

Hi all. The Board asked Dave Francis and me to look into the cabinet situation and we did consider a standalone one but concluded, as I think a few of you have, that a purpose built one is better suited to the design of PP.  We did a tour of the place and thought that the great alcove space close to the main club bar (where the fruit machines used to be) lends itself perfectly. It's wide enough to accommodate the widest of trophies and means that three walls of it are already in place.

Of course, that location close to the bar means it has to be pretty sturdy but on balance it seemed to us entirely right that trophies are out on display where supporters are rather than shut away in a less accessible part of the stadium.  We thought that the cabinet might have a closed frame at the bottom (about as high as the wall under the pitch-facing windows) which offers storage and then a metal frame enclosure holding 8mm toughened glass.

To be honest, the issue has kicked around for a while because the cost of around £2,000+ was a bit hard for us to justfy as we gear up financially for the BSS and we didn't really want the trophies (which are solely the club's, players and supporters' achievements)  to be lost under too much commercial sponsorship .

A suggestion that the supporters make it the the subject of a fundraising drive is both incredibly generous and a superb idea. I think we would all be enormously proud if the cabinet were to be sponsored - in full or part - by supporters and its just the kind of logo and sponsors signage that we would LOVE to have.  Having considered it among directors, I believe we would be pleased to 'forward fund' the project in order to get it going as soon as possible so that we don't have to wait too long into the season to get the cups up on display.  If you agree, The money you raise would go directly to the cabinet and be marked by clear signage of all the contributors so that future generations would know exactly how it was funded.

Does that sound like a plan?

I would guess that there's no chance of a fans v players match. We've progressed too high in the pyramid to be playing matches like that, when there's insurance etc to be thought of (if one of our top players gets injured in this match etc).

Outline costs would be irrelevant without fully understanding the requirements of the Board. Jeremy has provided some information, however, it would be better if a meeting was arranged where all parties could meet to discuss the options available and then more accurate estimates could be determined. I would be happy to liaise.

There may be others on the Forum who might know of someone who also might be able to quote.

Could we hold a charity match? Like Dartford legends vs. rivals (possibly fans)?

We could even get the Welsh Tavern to put up a team against the DFC legends.  xnod
