In preparation of my forthcoming hols to France, I am currrently reading "Serge Bastarde ate my baguette" by John Dummer.

Its an amusing tale of life as a Brocanteur (Bric or Brac/Antique dealer) in rural France. The guy who wrote it used to be the drummer in that old doo -woop group, The Darts.

Anyone else a Terry Pratchet fan? I love his stuff, very easy going and laugh out loud in places! I am trying to get all of his books in hardback because I like collecting them!!

As another string off this, what is your favourite book and why? I have a leather bound version of Lord of the Rings with the gold writing on the front! Its one of my most prised possesions and havnt actually read that version because I dont want to ruin the pages!

My favourite book ever is Thomas Hardy's "Jude the Obscure" Quite simply the most depressing, sad and soul destroying book you will ever read but strangely gripping.Judes life goes downhill from the first page but i also find it inspiring because every avenue to happiness is blocked for him and it inspires me to achieve what he could not. Great stuff

Just back from hols.

Read 'Terror Cops', factual book about Terrorist Cops. Bit bland, but does remind us how little we know about what's going on in protecting the public.
Latest James Patterson. Blink. Not bad at all.

and...Classic Rock magazine...superb

Summer Specials, remember them? Cor and  Whizzer & Chips etc.

Actually it was a decent piece on Jim Morrisons last days. I always thought he left the Doors to open open a supermarket, but how wrong can you be?

Started reading the Silmarillion after loving the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings... it's just long words thrown together with ridiculous names, isn't it?

Recently finished Michael J Fox's second book "Always Looking Up" - both that and the first one make me sad.

Reading a excellent book. Candlemoth by R J Ellory. I'm not a fast reader, meaning I'm a guy who takes ages to read a book because I'm always too knackered. But this one is unputdownable. Give it a go

I've read 2-3 R J Ellory book so far - but not Candlemoth.
A Quiet Belief in Angels (a Richard & Judy Book Club selection) I found weird and very heavy going.
A Simple Act of Violence, on the other hand, though highly convoluted, was a real page-turner and highly recommendable.
I think I may also have read A Quiet Vendetta, but if so, I can't remember a thing about it!
