Darts vs Bishop Stortford - Tues 24th August 7:45 pm
« on: August 21, 2010, 09:19:58 PM »

This is hopefully where we get the show on the road after a couple of, to say the least, disappointing performances.
As a number of the squad have past associations with BS they shouldn't need too much geeing up to put one over on them.
Let's hope for some decent weather and a big crowd (for an evening game) getting behind the boys.
Also need the 3 points here to keep Webbsfleet in their place come Saturday!

Surely we had spies at Stortfords place yesterday. Two birds with one stone, so to speak. Saves on petrol.
Ebbsfleet have Dover Tuesday, the least of their worries are us. I think our main worries are ourselves. One game at a time

'a couple of disappointing performances'. Where has that comment come from??

We have only played 3 matches, two of which have been away from home.

Listening to the commentary, our first game was an entertaining game against the bookies favourites and postings were complimentary.

Our midweek game at Hampton & Richmond was marred by the early sending off and again, we nearly earned a draw, only conceding in the final minutes of the game and seemingly having chances of our own. However, it was a backs to the wall performance which surely deserves every credit.

So that only leaves yesterday's game, in which reports suggest Farnborough were superior on the day.

If you had said disappointed, perhaps at not having more points in the bag, then I could agree because we are all disappointed to only have one point to our name.

I would have been expecting us to take a little while to settle down into this level of football, but I'm sure we will find our feet as the season progresses. All games at this level are going to be competitive. To date in three games, there has not been more than one goal difference in any of our games to date.

I will be looking forward to tuning in to Tuesdays match commentary.

Perhaps , if I'd worded it 'disappointing results' you'd have been happier.
I agree that, as at the last promotion, we've got to find our feet at the new level, and as we saw with the Chelmsford game last season that's not going to be easy. However as TB has brought in reinforcements from the start this time, let's hope it happens sooner rather than later and gives us a realistic chance of ending at the top end.

Let's not set our sights to high guys, I'd be delighted if we were mid table after 10 games and build from there...

What I've seen so far the effort is there; we just need to gel as a team and get a bit of luck!!

Champion will be availale for this one - what do we think, will he come straight in with Goodacre (before HIS suspension takes hold)? If so, would Bruce have a place in the starting XI? I'd like to see two start up front (Burns and Birch) wth Bradders and one of Shinn / Berquez in the middle. We need to make home advantage count and quadruple the tally.

over the 3 league  games so far joe bruce has been very solid si Icant see him being dropped , whilstIbelieve that tom champion is our best centre back I think that currently his talents would be better used in centre midfield

IF sheringham fit then he is back in for me

several of our lads should be up for this game as " old boys " as I think the following have played for BS   sheringham , harris , goodacre  ,champion and young ,  NOT SURE about bruce and burgess ??

Now if we were Boston, newly promoted and banging in nine goals against Redditch yesterday we would be raving.
But we're not.
And we definately ain't Redditch.
So what's all the panic?
We've lost two of our first three games, took a point off of one of the favourites, were hard done by with an iffy sending off and got well beaten by a very good side by all accounts. I wouldn't call that a bad start, I would call that promising.
What next? Bring me the head of Tony Burman?
Get behind them Tuesday

If Sheringham (the tip and leading man of the 4-5-1 formation) not fit then we need to go 4-4-2 in my opinion.

We were horribly unbalanced in the second half yesterday with us basically having no left midfielder/winger at all especially the 2nd half. I doubt their right back even bothered showering after the game he had such a cushy game!

Burnsy was isolated again and the formation 4-5-1 which is built around Sheringham hasn't quite worked with Burnsy up there on his own so far.

Personally would stick Rook up there and let him get on with it with Burnsy just behind him. He must be on good money so little point having him on the bench when we dont have Sheringham fit. He certainly put himself about yesterday and was good in the air.....basically is he aint gonna start now not sure if he will ever start!!!

Assuming that Sheringham won't be fit i would start Tuesdays game with:-

                    Young
Burgess    Bruce    Goodacre    Bonner
Hayes      Shinn     Champion    Bradbrook
              Burns    Harris

which side to pick with a fully fit squad will be hard, it just shows how good a squad we have got, and as i cannot see who should be dropped to bring in players like sherringham and champion I think shows that we have not played that badly over the 3 games,, but saying that if fit i would play sheringham a proven goal scorer in this league and I think that is what we a re missing at the moment, i feel sure if sheringham had played in any of them 3 games we would have more points on the board than we have already, but who to leave out to play sheringham i dont know i will leave that up to TB, but will support him whatever.

I don't think any of us expected it to be easy in this division and the first few games has confirmed our expectations. Nevertheless, there is surely enough quality in our squad to win our fair share of games once we find our feet at this new level.

I hope everyone stays on board and gets behind TB and the team to help spur them on to our first win on Tuesday.

4-4-2 from the off for me, we're at home and one point out of nine, let's go to it from the off, Saturday was poor so lets not start in that formation at home, everyone going for it and a welcome 3 points please. crowd 950.
