I realise that money laundering involves feeding "dirty" money in at one end and getting "clean" money out at the other, but how does that work with the £2 mn Majeed is supposed to have laundered through the Rams by allegedly building new facilities and paying players high wages? The money may be going in, but how is he supposed to be getting it out again?

I've just finished reading a book where the  bad guy goes into a casino at regular intervals, buys (say) £10,000 of chips with (unrecognised) "dirty" money, bets with a very clever system so as to minimise his losses and then cashes in his remaining chips for "clean" money. That's clear enough. So is buying and then selling tangible assets like expensive cars, jewellery or property. But a football club.....?

It appears that the entire staff at Croydon left after today's match

From Croydon's forum

Quote
Very upsetting, especially seeing fans, players, the manager, coaches and directors in tears. Hopefully the club will survive. Granted we will have to put out a youth side to fulfil any fixtures, but that is better than liquidation. The Rams will get through this.

It does make you worry for the future of real football in this country.

Heartbreaking for the genuine supporters of a club - we've gone through it, and come out the other side. Hopefully, they can.

Whoa  :-o Heard Tim O'Shea on the radio last week trying to stay upbeat about the situation. Has the club completely folded though? It seems they are striving to fulfill their fixtures from what I can see, although things don't look good for them thanks to a greedy ****** ******* ****.

The club may not be folding (Academy, juniors & ladies teams still playing) but with every cheque they have written bouncing they cannot afford to keep their entire staff. They will have to use Academy players to fulfill their fixtures which, let's face it, doesn't bode well for their future.  xshake

What a sad situation, I feel for the club and it's supporters. What with this and Andovers game called off yesterday because their ground is not up to the Zamoretto's standards after promotion this year, What the hell do a well run club like VCD Ath think of it all?

I spend some time at Croydon Athletic FC  as my grandson Jack is a memberof their Academy  , they have already had a bad start to the season before that dispicable toerag Asian Gentleman got involved .
Pitch relayed by cowboys ! 1st home game became away to Folkestone , Loss of one home fixture and more importantly loss of Crystal Palace XI pre-season friendly
I  understand that if they can keep the Youth team they can maintain their senior status like the Darts in 1992 .
Efforts are being made locally but non-league clubs have a tough time in the shadows of Selhurst Park
Prehaps the local paper will help .

call for Sproate I say !   If only Croydon council was like Dartford's !

Aren't the club at least partly responsible for what's happened?  Did they never question the motives of the owner (a non football man with a very questionable business background)?  They were quite happy to allow the club to operate way beyond its means through him pumping millions into ridiculous levels of player wages, with no plan B at all.

Of course their manager, O'Shea, was upset. I'd be upset if I won the lottery and a year later someone took it alll away from me!

It's a bit like people who invest money in "get rich quick" very high risk pension schemes, and then go running to the government demanding a refund when it all goes belly up!!

The previous Croydon Athletic chairman was banged up for embezzlement and the club nearly went under then. But did they learn from this? No, they didn't.  Dartford did, and I'm eternally grateful they did. After a handful of previous directors caused the demise of our club, the new board created a constitution that would prevent this happening again.

Perhaps it's just me, but I really haven't got much sympathy for Croydon Athletic at all.  Not even their 50 or so supporters.

Wholeheartedly agree with Dave T on every point.

Far from being a sad day for Non-League football, it should be seen as a great day when the message finally sinks in and stops other clubs going the same way in the future.

There are clubs all over the country and at its borders that only compete at their level paying the players that they pay because of sugar-daddies and hobbiests. Sooner or later, they take their money elsewhere or get bored.

Amazingly Portsmouth are still kicking but sooner or later, one of these rich owners will pull out and a big famous club will go, then maybe we'll start looking after the crown jewels instead of leaving the vault door open.

Thanks once again to that small band of people that kept Dartford FC alive and formed the constitution that will never allow this to happen to us again.
