the late great matt monro
« on: August 30, 2010, 08:40:05 AM »

my musical likes have constantly varied over the years as i have had likes for beatles, heavy rock, swing ,reggae, hip hop and r&b but in the last couple of years i seem to have decided that the only music i listen to in the car is matt monro.
this man had the best of all british voices and i honestly feel his  voice is the greatest of all time.
i am sure there are many of you that have not even heared of him and i would urge you to log onto you tube and simply tap in matt monro.there are a wealth of great songs to find and for a taster type in matt monro if i never sing another song and matt monro walk away

you will not be dissapointed.i had 30 minutes of matt in the car getting to the ebbsfleet game and that with the game made it a perfect saturday

Trust me Rambo, almost everyone on the forum will be familiar with the work of 'The Singing Bus Driver' as surely every single living Englishman worth his salt has seen "The Italian Job" and enjoyed the opening titles accompanied by MM singing "On Days Like These". A fine voice indeed  xtip

"On Days Like These"  =  "The Italian Job"

Both classics, inextricably linked.  Can't get the tune out of my head now.

Matt Munro born Terry Parsons in North London in 1930, although a bus driver he took this job to supplement the money he was making from singing engagements which was not much. He had very few hits in America which were notably "My kind of girl" and "Walk Away".Matt died at the age of 54 having been a heavy smoker/drinker from liver cancer he was due to have a translpant but the cancer had spread. A true british great and his songs will live on and i`m sure be appreciated by different generations.

Not my cup of tea, but probably the only British singer to get a comparison to being somewhere between Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams so high praise in deed.

Other well known hits were Hold on very tight/Room on top/Move along inside where he was the driving force for these numbers 480 96 423 etc  xwhis

While we're on the subject of well known Britflicks let us not forget MM's rendition of the theme song to "From Russia With Love"...... a neither shaken nor stirred performance  xnod
