FA Cup draw - details now inside this thread
« on: September 07, 2010, 11:34:13 AM »

I think this weekend is the round prior to our entry into the FA cup ( as we have a spare Saturday on the 25th Sept??). Am I correct? and if so, Who would we want and when is the draw? Monday I presume??
Personally, I would take the lowest ranked team every round for a while and then pick up a glamour tie in the 1st round proper ( Southampton, Sheff Wed, Charlton etc) or wait until the 3rd round to get a really big glamour tie? Old Trafford anyone?

Thanks.....I remember having this problam last year...But, trying to find any of this info on the FA website is nigh on impossible....... But then again, why should they care at this stage of the competition as its "ONLY" non league teams involved of course..

3 easy-peasy walkovers then a home tie (for any potential TV coverage) against Charlton or a trip to Sheff Weds please (coaches at dawn ...all that stuff!).

That'll do for me, Tommy  xbop

Fist, I just think it would be great. Famous old club; famous old ground; possible 15,000+ crowd. A proper FA Cup awayday trip if ever there was one (don't want to be travelling 20 miles to Dagenham or Brentford or, God forbid, Gillingham). Also the idea of an FA Cup tie between a "used to big once but look at us now" club vs a "Phoenix from the Flames" club makes for a great FA Cup story and a marketing dream for theTV people. One to fire the imagination of the viewing public.

Southampton would be nice too, mind.

KP, Nothing wrong with Dagenham, and they have a few connections with DFC.......easy to get to, especially if I'm at work, just walk across the road  xwhis xwhis

Is the 2nd Round draw still regional? if so could end up having Welling, Ebbsfleet, or even Dover. Hastings or Whitstable would be nice though.

If your after a Proper away day could go for Darlington in the 4th Qualifying and Plymouth in the first Round (get revenge for our defeat in '78)

Oh Right, I thought you were having slight allegiancies towards The Owls!

I can see what you mean, it does have great appeal. What other clubs fall into that catagory? Portsmouth? Leeds? Grimsby? (I remember not a million years ago they were in the second tier near the play-offs) Liverpool? ( xfinger) Oxford wouldn't be bad or Swindon, nice trip to Wilts.

Well you'd all be wellcome at Hillsborough. Would be a nightmare tie for me but with both sons playing for youngowls would be in the blue and white I guess.

If we survive tommorow intact we have a decent team this year so would be fun.

Ah - Sheffield Wednesday. That will be in the 3rd Round Proper then to look forward to  xbop. I think the first two rounds are regionalised.

Nope, don't think they are, Pete. Certainly weren't last year anyway (Tooting & Mitcham had to travel to Stockport County!). Can't find anything on the FA website to suggest otherwise?
