Rusthall away is always a tough fixture and this encounter for The Darts opening fixture proved to be no different. The pitch is never great at Jockey Farm, but it must be said that the pitch was probably in the best condition we have ever seen it and the hospitality shown by our counterparts was very welcome.

During an excellent first half, both teams played some very good football creating a fair share of goal scoring opportunities. The Darts opened the scoring on 9 minutes when Rusthall failed to clear a corner from Henry Goodwin and Jack Sharkey thumped the ball into the roof of the net from 2 yards. If he had been any further out his shot would no doubt have cleared the houses to the rear of the pitch. Darien Neavin then nearly created another goal after his pace took him away from his marker, but his cross was just too strong for the onrushing Rohan Khattra. Rusthall then had a couple of long range shots that were easily saved by Matt Peasey, before another shot sailed over the bar and a cracking shot from the impressive right winger thumped against the post. Chances came and went for both teams before Rusthall snatched an equaliser just before half time. A free kick from the right found the Dartford defence napping and a Rusthall player attacked the near post and headed home unchallenged. This was the last action that defender Laurie Watts saw as he had to leave the pitch with a groin strain to be replaced by Terry Bastable.

The second half was barely underway when on 43 minutes the Dartford defence was caught square and a Rusthall player turned his marker and finished well. A clever lay off from Rohan put Darien away again, but his powerful shot went just wide of the near post. It only took until the 46th minute for DFC to level after a training ground free kick was excellently executed. JP crossing for Ben Thompsons diagonal run to flick his header past the stranded Rusthall goalkeeper. The remainder of the match was then closely fought with The Darts looking the more likely to score, but Rusthall still counter attacking with intent and pace. The tiring Rohan Khattra was replaced by Rhys Betts on 65 minutes and Billy Davis replaced the injured Jack Sharkey on 67 minutes, but neither team could find a way through each others defence for a well earned point for both teams.
