Interesting point about the acoustics and noise generated at different grounds.

I bet there's not been one ground built where the architects have considered the acoustics under the stands.
Shame really because it can make a massive difference as we proved on Tuesday.

I bet there has been  xwhis  It's pretty obvious the seedum roof is there to restrict noise as much as anything else. It helps keep the noise down outside, but spoils it for us inside IMO

Constructive criticism?? Don't get it. If it's still criticism, how is it constructive?

Obvious?? With the height of the stands??
I will stand corrected if wrong but I thought the seedum roofs were for green issues and recycling. I cannot see how their inclusion and height of the roofs lend themselves to good acoustics. As much as I love PP I doubt there was any consideration given on their inclusion to improve the acoustics.

I think it's always been mentioned before that the reason the atmosphere isn't brilliant at PP is because the roof is so high...is it just me or was the roof at Vale Park much much higher?!?!?!

I take it that it must be the wood that drowns the sound out then!

There was.

Putting it bluntly, we could have built a 'noisy' stadium and had to locate it further out of town. We went back and forward on lots of aspects of the design in that period leading up to Christmas of 2004 and eventually, as deadlines pressed and differing technical/cost/environmental advice came from all directions, I remember asking for all the options to be summarised in plain-english for me and I took them home over Christmas.  I do recall that Acoustics and the Stadium Roof was defo one of them.

A couple of days of peace-and-quiet, Morecambe and Wise, Queen's Christmas Message and Brussels Sprouts worked wonders with all decisions made by New Year's Eve. (most of them either wrong, right, inspired, ridiculous, brilliant or stupid depending on which forum thread you read)

Anyway, it's home now and it isn't serving us too bad.  xnod

PS. There is some suggestion that at PV the sound from the terraces may actually be being pushed through the amps around the localised speakers in the ground. It certainly is done in other venues. It works very well as a technique and certainly boosts the atmosphere. We're not sure, but someone I was with who knows about such things believes it was.

Bugger, I stand corrected.
But at least we know who to blame.......
I suppose we'll just have to struggle on by in our little old stadium...............

Wokings rather large seated end also has great acoustics.

Seeing as we are going there on the 27th, it would be a shame if we didn't at least try and create the same atmosphere we created at PV.

Couldn't agree more. We must all band together and see Woking away as another 'big away day'.  xbop

As J puts it, it was obvious because it was designed to damp the noise, not help generate it. I'd say that was the first consideration of it, the green issues are an added bonus to shout about to the tree huggers.

Dig up the roof, fill in the back panels and I bet we will generate a bit more noise. Never will it get to tin rook levels of virtually all the old stadiums though.
