It was a privilege to be at the match on Monday, with the great atmosphere and performance to match by the Darts!

It was also a privilege to meet Pete Samson, the fan who started this thread and a fellow old Temple Hillian, who chose the right match to travel down from the Wirral.

The trumpet player was good. He was in tune!

Who was it ?  Was it Herb Albert, Kenny Ball?!!

Interesting that Dover manager Martin Hayes did his post-match talk to the players on the pitch. Was it because of that well-known footballing cliche of "he's lost the dressing-room"?!

Probably my second favourite use of La Marseillaise ever (behind Escape to Victory). Top work to the choir, the drummers, the trumpeter and everyone. The video really shows it up to how loud it was.

I would have gone, but when checking the website on Saturday night (and again on Sunday morning) the website said nothing about the game. Heck, it was when Lee Noble posted Ray's video on Facebook when I first noticed that Dartford played.

Anyway, great result for the Darts! Wish I were there. COYD!

Yesterday just about edged it as the game of the season. It's always great to beat the french but to beat the conquerors of Gillingham 4-0, with the promotion contenders desperately in need of the points to stay in the race, was truly amazing. Thanks to us their destiny is no longer in their own hands.
Andy Young did brilliantly well to deny the league's top scorer on more than one occassion. Infact, Adam Birchall must be sick of the sight of Andy. He couldn't even beat him from the spot earlier in the season.
Although I prefer Tom Bonner at left back, due to his physical presence, with defenders rarely getting passed him, any fears I had about James Rogers in that position were soon allayed.
The lad had a good game. He got forward many times and put some good crosses in.
Apart from one dodgy moment on the edge of our box, Joe Bruce had a fine game at the back along with Paul Goodacre.
As for Matt Jones he made the right back position his own yesterday. He made some great forays into enemy territory. A real dynamic performance from him.
In midfield Tom Champion and Elliot Bradbrook were both solid and if Jon Wallis was brought on to soften Tom up then it didn't work. Champs gave as good as got with interest!
Once again the tenacious Lee Noble showed why he was voted player of the year.
Lee Burns battled and gave it his all as usual, Danny Harris was back to his best and Charlie Sheringham fought like a warrior on the front line.
Oh and by the way, the guy with the trumpet. Give him a contract Tony. Well done that man.
Especially enjoyed the Match of the Day theme. You almost had me believing Lawrenson and Hansen were sitting in the press box!

Never mind Conay…you didn’t miss much. Don’t forget the Kent Senior Cup Final next Monday at 3pm. With a little bit of luck we can truly finish the season off in style.

Well what a day that was and so glad for my boy to see his first Darts victory even though he got badly bruised by an unsavory incident involving a supporter in a light blue top! Also good to speak to Pete Sampson who once again choose the right game to see. Hope you had a pleasant journey home Pete.

As for the game; I could not have scripted this any better if I wanted to and credit to all concerned especially our Musical Youth section with their ace rendition of La Marseillaise played in such style and grace. In fact they have been a rock all season and shown some of the older supporters how to get behind the team. I really think they deserve their own separate appreciation thread.

Better stop now and finish off the rest of my wine before I write even more gibberish.

I started this thread, so I'm also going to finish, well, come in near the end anyway. After that performance, I reckon that I should start every match thread next season  xbop,

In my opening post I was hoping for an as enjoyable match as reports of the Woking match. I got it! xbop

I was hoping for the same result as the Woking match. I got it - and more !  xbop

A sun drenched match? I got that too  xbop

The double over Douvres? Again, I got that too, in more ways than one. 2-0 at Douvres and 4-0 at PP. Oh what joy!  xbop

A smog free weekend? Lucky I ignored those weather report fears because back in the late 60s/ early 70s I attended an European match at Anfield when the persistant rain and the large wet crowd generated so much steam in the old Kop that supporters couldn't see from one end of the pitch to the other. and had to rely on the supporters at the other end to shout out who the scorers were!!

Well, so many of the posts on this thread have already stated the facts of the game. I can only fully agree with them all. Did Douvres turn up? They weren't allowed to by a rampant Darts. Birchall may have scored a hatful for them this year, but he failed to score any against us.

What I found pleasing about our performance today was it was a team performance which has many finding it difficult to name a MoM. Jones and Rogers were both new faces for me, and I was impressed by both, ably assisted by Bruce, who I didn't think deserved a yellow card at all. Nor did he. Also very pleased to see Andy Young throwing the ball out to the full backs.  That is something I have always like to see because the team retains possession  rather than a kick becoming a 50/50 ball. In general I thought the ref had a fair game, especially in the first half when I didn't  really notice him - always a good sign that , but cautions like that when there is no recourse to an appeal, shows just how easy it is for bookings to mount up.

To Gilesy and Ring of Fire. Yes indeed I was a very happy man ,  because whilst I wasn't expecting to see the Darts win 4-0, I certainly wasn't expecting Tranmere to also win 4-0. What odds would it have been for a double 4-0 predicted score?

Also pleased as well to meet Mr Gaz and Ken, as new faces. Very pleased that DJ John's young son has eventually got around to seeing a Darts victory after the 11th attempt.

My MoM is going to Danny Harris for his all out effort (Yes, I know there were others too!) but I thought his non stop effort in the first half helped cause all sorts of problems in the Dover defence and his equisite lob for his goal was a beauty. But it was a difficult decision because absolutely everybody put in an excellent shift.

Just like to end to say sorry to those I didn't catch up with on Monday. And pleased to see those that I did. See you all next season and I hope you are all rewarded with a similar performance and result to win the KSC next Monday.

For me a terrific day out. They can't come much better than that. I have seen some magical games this season and look forward to many more next season.

Before you read the posts just take a look at the MOTM voting . Every player that started the match has a vote . Says it all about the performance right there .  xtip xtip xtip

I Can only echo the previous points made in earlier posts  regarding our fantastic performance yesterday and not sure I can remember us doing a league double too many times against the our old rivals ?
Really pleased for Tony with that result but crikey he must have been pulling his hair out over our previous three league performances and then the players turned up for him with a performance like that !! ??? Oh well they say Football ? its a funny old game !!

Fantastic day yesterday and agree 100% with Jeremy that day was made for Princes Park. Yesterday was one of those days like many others in recent times when you realize how special it is to be a Darts fan  :-) a brilliant atmosphere around our wonderful half full ground and again 'hats off' to the choir and trumpeter behind the goal !  :-) Can we book him for every home game ?

Brilliant day !

Up the Darts !!

Trumpeter!! Now that is going back to the 50s and reminds me of when the sound of Eddie Calvert's trumpet  and 'Oh Mein Papa' used to flow through the loud speakers of the day at half time at Watling Street.

Also enjoyed and agree with Jeremy's post too!
