Superb effort today chaps.

Dont listen to all those people who say you cannot run a railway.

I was going to post something on this too - I feel I owe an apology to Kings Ferry coaches after the Port Vale journey home... the train tonight was easily much hotter than that coach, and I was on the fortunate ones to have a relatively empty train. A journey of 1 hr 30 today, compared to the normal 38 minutes from London Bridge...

Bravo.

Ended up collecting the wife from Plumstead station, after it was suggested they make alternative travel arrangments!

I would like to point out, that in my 6 years in the railway I have never and will never work for SE trains. Feel lucky to have applied for 2 jobs there and mised out on both.

Constructive criticism?? Don't get it. If it's still criticism, how is it constructive?

It's ok though as south eastern will apologise and forget about it. they are good at that.

Is there any other service that can perform so poorly and the customer gets nothing from it.

Disgrace. Every complaint letter i have ever written has just come back with sorry we try.  xshake

I dare say the wrong sort of heat today. Who'd have thought it hot weather in June and all that. I was so pleased that South East Trains remembered to put the heating on this morning on my train it was feeling a bit parky at 28 degress this morning!!!

They are now blaming it on someone getting off a train whilst it had stopped (not at a staion) and walking down the track, so they had to turn the power to the rails off causing hours of delays.

I had the unfortunate problem of wearing a tuxedo on the hottest day of the year so far only to find there were no trains going into London for hours. Had an argument with the woman at the station who was very rude. If in 2011 they can't cope with heat then what hope do we have for the future!  xshake

That someone may have got frustrated and got off the train may well be true, and though it may have compounded the problem it was certainly not the cause. Not surprising that SouthEastern would latch onto this and try and use it as an excuse, but truth is, the passengers action was a consequence, not a cause and their so-called network had already disintegrated into meltdown long before then.

The train I was held captive on, just outside Sidcup, was so ridiculously hot and airless that many people were starting to feel unwell and whilst I wouldn't do it myself, I can well understand why people get frustrated and take the matter into their own hands. Eventually we moved a few hundred yards only to be turfed off at Sidcup where we were told to go and get a bus where our tickets would be valid.

Needless to say, the bus driver knew nothing of this but since his bus over-heated and broke down anyway (I kid you not) it didn't really matter.

Three and a quarter hours from Charing Cross to Dartford ... I probably could have walked it.

I did walk home last week, just for the sake of it, from Kennington to Joydens Wood....3hrs 45 mins...Puts SouthEastern and our train network to shame when I can walk back as quick as some can get home on a modern and "efficient" train when the temp gets a tad too much ! India ( pre the present boom years) with a pupulation of zillions and a bursting at the seams ( in 100degrees heat) rail network can cope better than we can !

It's horrible being crowded when it's so hot. I can fully sympathise. I had a similar thing happen to me on Monday afternoon.
I took my dog for a walk along a two mile section of beach and there must have been at least ten people on there!

To be fair to South Eastern, despite them being a poor network, when the weather is hot and then cold and then hot again in the space of a few days, the points do have a serious issue, being metal. Basic science should give you the answer. The points tend to stick and I have been to derailments caused by this before. It's unfair to blame the train operator if it was a problem such as this. And there would not have been much the driver could do either. It's just unfortunate, and would still be far more efficient, punctual and comfortable than an Indian Railway. We have laws that would make most of their travel and trains void.

And despite the frustration, getting off the train put more than one persons life in danger.  xshake
That said SE Trains has many issues that cause plenty of delays which I am sure you will experience once again over the next few months.

As someone who works on the railways, take my advice, buy a motorbike, makes the journey so much easier  :-D
