Golden Goal
« on: December 04, 2011, 02:30:25 PM »

Following the introduction of the scoreboard at PP there appears to be some confusion over the time a goal is officially announced as being scored.

To hopefully clarify the situation:

0 to 59 seconds = first minute = 01 as the winning time / ticket
1 min 0 secs to 1 min 59 secs = second minute = 02 as winning ticket
2 min 0 secs to 2 min 59 secs = third minute = 03 as winning ticket etc.

As an example, if the first goal is scored on 23 minutes 10 seconds according to the scoreboard, for John's announcement the time will be the 24th minute and the winning ticket will have 24 on it.

Hope this helps.  :-)

So...the first minute is actually only 59 secs long?  :-o

I wondered if anyone would spot the deliberate mistake  :embarassed:

How's this:

1 sec to 1 minute 00 seconds = first minute = 01 as the winning time / ticket
1 min 1 sec to 2 min 00 secs = second minute = 02 as winning ticket
2 min 1 sec to 3 min 00 secs = third minute = 03 as winning ticket etc.

The rest is right (I think).

This is always assuming that the "?scrutineer?" manages to catch the right time on the clock. If the goal goes in at, say, 1 min 59 but the clock says 2 min 01 (or even later if he's celebrating the goal!) by the time he can clock the clock (so to speak), does he have to guess how much time may have been "lost" since the goal was actually scored....?

sorry, but I think this misses the first second of the game. Starting at 1 second simply can't be right. what happened to the first second?

My thoughts exactly.
I believe that the first post (0-59 seconds = 1st minute etc) had to be right. 0-59 still counts as 60 seconds (use your fingers to count!) and allows for a goal to be scored in less than the first full second of the minute. (I think!)

Then, of course, there is the old chestnut about goals scored in stoppage time. What happens if a goal is scored in the 45+3 minute of the first half? You can't really call that the 48th minute, can you, because that is supposed to be in the second half. And besides, for the first half our clock stops at 45 mins. And you can't really declare goals (and therefore tickets) void for stoppage time goals. Hey ho! Is there such a guide as "Golden Goals for Dummies"?
